Sherm's Shack — a historical, family-owned Saugatuck home
Welcome to Sherm’s Shack! Located within the Historic District of Saugatuck, this 1874 farmhouse was where our parents enjoyed their retirement. The property is completely family‑run by us, the Shermans’ daughters and grandkids, who take pride in maintaining the home and welcoming guests to this special place. We’ve had many great gatherings with friends and family, and invite you to have some here, too!
The house is within walking distance from Saugatuck’s downtown shopping district and a short drive to beaches, including the city’s famous Oval Beach. If you like to hike or bike, the beginning of the Saugatuck to Holland bike trail is just down the street.
“The Shack” has plenty of parking with a backyard big enough for games and cook-outs. We have chairs and yard games available.
Our fully furnished kitchen is great for preparing meals and the dining room is a wonderful space for gatherings with family or friends. Or, if you prefer, take advantage of the many restaurants in town (The Southerner is a short walk across the street).
The master bedroom is on the first floor. Steps to the second floor may be challenging for people with mobility issues.

Nice clean rental with a great location - close enough to walk into town and super easy to access everywhere we wanted to go. We would definitely recommend this rental.
Our third stay at Sherm’s Shack! Such a charming house. The location is a quick walk to downtown. It’s by far the most well appointed vacation property we’ve ever rented. I love hanging out in the three-season room, drinking my coffee in the morning. We will definitely be back.
This is a family home in a great location. The house was well organised and clean. All the appliances worked and the furnishings charming and comfortable.
Our family felt at home in this property

Good to hear! We love to share our house with other families.
My husband and I, our dog, and a few friends had a great long weekend at the Shack! We love Saugatuck and have stayed a lot of different places and have now added this to our favorites list. It was very clean, quite roomy, and the location is perfect. And our dog loved it, too!
We have stayed in this charming home on more than one occasion. This is a well equipped home , spotlessly clean and a great location.. The owners have provided plenty of extras like towels, toilet paper, soap , tea coffee etc. Yes, i like to replace what we useThere are three generations in our party and this home suits us all.

Glad to have you again! And we love to hear that three generations enjoyed the house.
An older farm house with positive charm. Walking distance to town where loads of shopping and many Mom & Pop restaurants. We visit Saugatuck every year and glad we found this location.
The house was perfect for the five of us (3 adults and 2 children.) It was easy to communicate with Renee. The kitchen was well-equipped. We enjoyed eating our breakfasts on the sunporch. Also, it was an easy walk to town. We enjoyed going to Oval Beach, riding the chain ferry, and visiting the shops. There were inside and outside games available for everyone to use.
A comfortable and convenient spot to stay while we explored and enjoyed Saugatuck. Lots of room for three adults and three teenagers with privacy when we needed it and a place upstairs for my grand daughter to practice her violin. Beautifully furnished and decorated with charm.

Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Love that your granddaughter was able to practice her violin!
Sherm's Shack was lovely - the location is excellent (very much within walking distance to town, the shops, and restaurants), lots of parking, 4 season room with lots of windows, and loads of literature about the area! We were there when it was 90, so the upstairs got slightly warm, but box fans in addition to the ceiling fans did the trick. Several friends and I had a fabulous time!

Thanks, Lillie -- glad you had a great time!
We will take a look at the central air and see if we can get things circulating a bit better.
We had a great time at Sherm's shack. It is a beautiful house with everything a family could need, from baby to grandparents. Rain or shine, you'll be comfortable and entertained there. The location was very convenient. We could walk to the little shops and restaurants. Once we arrived, we could leave the car behind. Renee was easy to contact and very helpful. We will be back for sure.

Thanks, Jennifer! We love it when families come and enjoy themselves, as we have over the years!
The house is a vintage property located within walking distance of downtown Saugatuck. Lots of space inside and outside. My only issue was that toaster oven. How do I get a warm English Muffin that is brown on both sides?! lol My dog loved it as well, and was over the top when the deer wandered into the yard. A great time was had by all, and Spot wants to go back :-)

Michael,
I'm glad that you and Spot enjoyed your stay. I hope Spot chased the deer out of the yard!
Shoot--we have a toaster at the house. It's in one of the cabinets. Next time we'll make sure it is out!
We enjoyed this perfectly located home with plenty of space for our extended family reunion. The kitchen was very well equipped with even more dishes, pots, pans, and containers than we needed! The outdoor fire ring and ample seating allowed us to roast marshmallows and enjoy s’mores at sunset. We found ourselves walking to dinner in the heart of saugatuck often and the adjacent paved path allowed for great jogging in the morning or evening. We even walked to the chain ferry to visit mt baldy and avoided the parking and detour to oval beach, although it was worth the drive for a lovely morning yoga or fun beach day when the waves calmed a bit. The front porch was a wonderful spot to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee with unexpected deer walking through the yard!

Sherman shack is too far away from town to walk so every time you went to town you had to spend a lot of time looking for a parking place. The house was very nice except the stairs going up. We’re very steep both bathrooms lacked a walk in shower. Stepping over a cloth tub was hard stepping over the upstairs. Bathroom was very hard to.. For that reason, we will not stay there again when we go back to Saugatuck, we will stay in town where you can just leave your room, our house and the town.

We’re sorry you had problems with the stairs and not having a walk in shower in the house. We provide photos to give an idea of what the house is like, and in the summary we mention the stairs to the second floor bedroom may be difficult for people with mobility issues. Thank you for your comments, though. We have gone back to the web site and emphasized this on our picture of the stairs.
Sorry about parking in town. In the summer it is a challenge.
The next time you visit Saugatuck, we hope you will be able to find a place within the business district that can help meet your needs.
Thanks, again for your feedback!
Best part is location. Can walk to Water Street where main drag is. Walk down 15 min. to the coffee shop next to bike shop. We enjoyed the older home in a upscale neighborhood. It reminded us of our homes growing up. Not fancy, just clean and more than enough room to be comfortable. If you can't go up steep stairs, this isn't for you. We had no problem going up and down FYI. Had a bonfire. Everything is in its place. Don't need to bring anything! They have all the toiletries, towels, kitchen extras like foil, baggies etc. AC was wonderful, sunroom off the main home to enjoy the sun and no AC. It was perfect for us and we would stay again here!
