About this property
Potential Stay on Greenbrier Drive
This lovely historic home on Greenbrier Drive has all of the basic amenities you will need for a comfortable stay. Kitchen, one & 1/2 bathrooms, living room, dining room, 3 bedrooms, and a river lover’s paradise!
We are calling it a “potential stay” simply because this historic home has the potential to be a $200/night place. Each room needs scraped & painted and we will do it one-room-at-a-time as we can afford. This was Clare’s childhood home so THANK YOU for helping to restore it! The space In addition to the home - You have a spacious private back patio and a wonderful view of the Greenbrier river from the front porch. Cross the street (carefully!) for river access. At regular Summer water levels - you have your own island to play or relax on!
We are only minutes away from Pipestem & Bluestone State Parks, Bluestone Lake and Sandstone Falls. We (Summers County) are a part of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve! The New River Gorge in Fayetteville is one hour away. Guest access The whole home and Greenbrier river in front of the home. Other things to note This home is a WORK IN PROGRESS. That is the only reason it is priced so low. We just put on a new roof and had the electrical updated. Also, over 1k in plumbing. Your reservation goes back in to the home 100%. Thank you!

We loved this house, so much character. The owner was so sweet and helpful. We cooked and ate our meals here (you can even do a grocery pickup at the Kroger which is not far away). We loved listening to the river, and truly just enjoyed our stay. We would definitely come back!
toilets did not work, dishes & appliances were not clean, pile of smelly trash in car port, AC not adequate , had a hard time reaching VRBO with our concerns

Hello, as we came to conclude during your stay, the City was working on the local sewage system and the toilets were experiencing low pressure. This has been fixed.
I am sorry for your bad experience... but we had great reviews form the guests before and after your stay.
Our stay was short and quick. It was in a nice little town where everyone is super friendly. The house is exactly what they say it is. They are in the middle of renovating the old home, so it is what it is. The only thing that I would mention is that the house is actually on
This home is a work in progress as advertised but I love the feel of the “older homes”. The owner is working to make updates on the home but my family and I Really enjoyed our stay. It was cold and snowing when we were there but the home was warm and cozy! I can’t wait to see what the finished product will be! This home was clean and comfortable. The host was accommodating, helpful, and attentive to any needs we had.
We really enjoyed this property!!! Corn hole was a big hit!!! Always nice to beat the teenage sons at a game!! Ha! Very clean and easy to find. Road is a bit busier than I expected with for the younger kids of the group. Backyard oasis is lovely!
Neighbors was very unfriendly and loud at night. Ants all in the house. No way to wash clothes in the home.

The loud neighbors have since moved. In Summer months you must be mindful of crumbs. The ants are always on the search here in the country. There is no laundry as advertised, but will be available in 2026.

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Communication
Communication Challenge
The house was a good fit for us with 5 adults and 1 baby and the location was convenient to restaurants etc. As an older house (that we knew was in process of being updated one room at a time), it was decorated appropriately.
Our biggest challenge was communication with the property owner. One bed was not made up and there were not enough towels when we arrived. Owner said she would take care of this but then we heard nothing more until the middle of the second day. By then we had purchased towels and toilet paper and asked to be reimbursed but when the owner finally responded they told us they would not reimburse us and to get out of their property immediately because we had been so difficult.
We called VRBO and were assured that we did not have to leave and they would follow up with us after successfully contacting the owner.
We did enjoy the rest of our stay as a family.
There are some things a future renter might want to know - listed below.
- the smallest bedroom does not have AC nor a window that opens
- the half bath has just a toilet and mirror but no sink
- only one 3-prong electric plug in livingroom, all others throughout are 2-pronged
Items we expected but did NOT find included:
sufficient toilet paper
sufficient bath towels
trash bags
enough plates for the number of people allowed
soap or anti-slip strips in the bath tub
way to recycle
What a fun house. Room for everyone, definitely an old home with lots of love. Exactly what we wanted to experience in West Virginia traveling to New River Gorge National Park.
