About this property

Your private Yurt in the woods -2 miles to town!

Your private Yurt in the woods -2 miles to town!

Come experience the beauty of the Sierra foothills and the Yuba river in our yurt tucked into the forest just 2 miles from downtown Nevada City.

With a natural creek right outside your door and hiking trails right off the deck, this serene and beautiful yurt retreat awaits you.

Come and relax! We have an outdoor (and indoor) shower, a claw foot bath tub, fire pit and large deck to chill on. There is a small functional kitchen with a hot plate, toaster oven, micro sink and fridge.

We have a wood fired hot tub on-site. It requires a fire to be lit and maintained to keep it hot.

During the winter the yurt is heated with a wood fired stove with plenty of wood stacked to keep you warm. It takes a few hours to warm up, and needs to be maintained during your stay to keep the place toasty.

The bed has a heating blanket to help keep you cozy throughout the night.

The hot tub Is wonderful in the winter, it is wood fired and takes several hours to heat as well.

Pets: We love them. Please clean up after them. Please put the protective striped sheets on the furniture to keep it hair free if your pets jump up on the furniture.

Keep them in at night! This is when wildlife activity is most active.

If they do not get along with goats, chickens, dogs and cats please keep them on a leash. We have many animals on the property that roam freely. Most likely you won’t see them but I can’t guarantee it.

Please do not wear shoes in the yurt as it stains the rug over time. Bring a pair of slippers for indoor use and then some easy to slip on shoes for when you need to go to the bathroom. Thank you!

The hot tub: it’s wood fired. This means you have to heat it with a fire to get it hot. This can take many hours to get to the right temperature. It’s a good idea to start a fire right when you get there! This tub may have leaves in it (they fall from above) and cloudy water. The water should NOT smell, the cloudiness is a part of the cedar tubs charm- ash from the fire and particulate from the cedar mix together. We treat it between guests with natural products that maintain the wood (you can’t use chlorine in these tubs). We clean it regularly. Shower before using it to wash off any oils and sweat in your body please! The outdoor shower is lovely :)

Water: we are on a well and provide fresh drinking water in a container for you. It’s fine to drink, cook and bath with well water from the tap but it can have a minerally quality to it. We test the well annually.

We provide filtered water but if it runs out, the water out of the tap is safe and is delicious. Please refill the filter water upon checking out for the next guest.

Fireplace: We will leave you a bundle of wood that comes with the rental. If you need more wood you can purchase it from us or from the grocery store. We have lots of wood at the yurt and we ask you pay $10 per bundle if you use more then we leave you inside. This is on the honor system- It takes a lot of time and resources to keep wood stocked for the property. If you don’t know how to start a fire you may want to bring an instant log with you. Lighters are in the small kitchen drawer.

Sleep: we have a heating blanket in the armoire for cold nights, It’s about 10 degrees cooler on our land then in town. This is a real treat during our hot summers. There will be a fan for you as well.

We live in the woods, there are bugs (not many mosquitos thankfully) and wild animals such as bears, coyotes, skunks, raccoons, fox and mountain lions- we’ve seen them on/orl near the property. This is part of the country charm and should be expected.

Please be cautious and alert when hiking. Wild animals don’t want to encounter you any more then you do them!

Don’t leave food outside overnight, it attracts bears.

The toilet- we have a composting toilet that flushes and functions like a regular toilet. Please DO flush after every use, please DO NOT put TP in the toilet, it can clog. Just throw used TP in the garbage. The toilet can have a hard time with large quanties in it at once. If it becomes clogged don’t try to flush it over and over.
There is a plunger- put it on top
of the closed gasket to make a seal, then use the foot pedal to flush and the gasket will open, plunge it and it will unclog. This works 100% of the time
But if you have any issues don’t hesitate to reach out.

Checkout: Please do the dishes and refill the filter water upon checking out.
Leave the door unlocked. Pile your used towels together so I don’t wash things that haven’t been used. Just send me a text that you’ve left if possible, so we can come and get it ready for the next person.
Happy to do late checkout or early check in if nobody else is scheduled to rent it.

Our stay at the Yurt
My boyfriend and I had an amazing time at the yurt! It was beautiful location like a little fairy tale. I loved the creek and all the woodsy outdoor fresh smells. The hot tub was amazing as well.

A great glamping experience
The yurt and surroundings are as advertised. Think camping in a solid tent with a really nice bed. A quiet, secluded spot on the owner's land, but you'd hardly know there was a home nearby. It's a short, easy path from parking to the yurt, over 2 small bridges that cross 2 small streams. The yurt is super cute, with a kitchenette, couch, small table and 2 chairs, and a wood stove. It has a solid wood/trex deck out front, and a nice campfire ring just a couple of steps away. The outhouse restroom/shower is actually quite sanitary and accommodating. Plenty of hot water. I didn't feel like we were "roughing it" much at all. We had rain during our stay, but the yurt was perfectly dry and with the fire and a space heater provided by the owners, we stayed warm. The queen bed was firm, but very comfortable. Plenty of blankets to keep us warm. Overall, we were very happy. Next. Time we'll just watch the weather closer and avoid the rain. Nathan and Megan were super responsive to messages through VRBO and answered all my questions. Thanks guys!

Beautiful, Quiet, yet close to whatever you need
The yurt is wonderfully designed. The property is gorgeous, and the work they are doing to improve it even more is inspiring. The location feels very remote and tranquil. We will definitely come back again sometime. Thanks so much for your hospitality.

Great escape to the woods!
Loved the simplicity of the yurt, and even without AC the fans and shade trees kept it comfortable. A beautiful and secluded location. Something about firing up and tending the hotub was deeply satisfying.
