Welcome to cozy Kalkoen (that’s “turkey” in Dutch :) cabin in Virginia's Blue Ridge. Our cabin sits within a 10-mile radius of Virginia’s 5 highest peaks, all over 5000 ft; minutes from the Appalachian Trail and Creeper Trail. Enjoy hiking, biking, flyfishing, horseback riding nearby, or watching the wild ponies. Kick back by the stove on a chilly night, or take your favorite book on the deck, waiting for sunset...you'll be right at home. If you are a nature lover, you can find peace here. The space Kalkoen is a cabin with large yard on top of a foothill in the Appalachian highlands, between the highest peaks in Virginia, Mt. Rogers and Mt. Whitetop. The interior consists of a very comfortable great room, which contains a music space because we think anyone that feels the urge to make music while in the mountains should have some instruments handy. There is a roomy, modern kitchen, full bathroom and two bedrooms. There is also a nice deck, with heavy-duty gas grill. If chilly, it's easy to heat the place with one thermostat controlled gas stove, plus a beauty of a wood burning stove (careful, please). The access road, past the gate and up the hill, is appropriately named Serenity.

We had a very lovely stay over the long holiday weekend. The cabin was clean and cozy and the perfect homebase to adventure from. Well equipped, we cooked at "home" most nights and spent the evenings reading and relaxing on the deck or around the fire pit which was exactly what we needed after a long day of adventuring.
I had a very pleasant stay at Kalkoen cabin. The hosts went above and beyond to be helpful and welcoming. The cabin was spick and span and very well equipped. The location is perfect for exploring the Mt. Rogers NRA. A very good experience overall.
If you are considering booking this cabin, don't hesitate! The location is beautiful and the cabin was better equipped with supplies and amenities than any other we've rented. Hosts were extremely responsive and helpful. The beds and furniture were very comfortable, shower was fabulous, lots of towels, kitchen large and has everything you need. Firepit and chairs and lots of wood. Beautiful setting and very quiet and peaceful (check out the stars!). Many places to hike nearby. One of our best stays! Thank you Steve and Ester.

Our stay at Kalkoen Cabin was just what we needed - scenic, quiet, pet-friendly. There were some initial hiccups with the Wi-Fi, but the hosts were very attentive and pro-active and the problems were resolved. The listing was new on Vrbo and needed some adjustments ( there is Wi-Fi and there IS a bathroom!) but the pictures tell the story. Thank you, Steve and Ester!
It was a great place in hills, about 30 minutes from Damascus, Va. It would've been great to know not recommend to take a lowered car at all. We took a higher SUV so we didn't have a problem. Other than that a graet place to just to relax in the country. Very roomy and relaxing place, very well stocked with stuff you would forget to bring. We would love to stay here again.
