This was our second trip here 12 years apart. Nice features in the cabin including the fun and games in the basement. The Black Mountain area is great for hiking, dining and overall fun.
Great location with so much adventure on the property. Kids really enjoyed the creek and trails right out the back door. The basement offered so much to keep the family entertained every night.
Everything was so great. We loved being able to walk around the property. We loved having our grand puppies, and everything was stocked so beautifully. Thank you so much.
The perfect setting for Thanksgiving holiday! The host was wonderful with communication, even during a holiday. The setting was ideal for hiking with my daughter’s dog. Very relaxing with lots of games and things to do! We arrived after dark and the road, being unfamiliar, was somewhat scary. I would definitely recommend arriving during the daylight hours to get a lay of the land. There are sections where it would be very difficult for 2 cars to pass.
This was our first time going to the mountains and had an amazing time. The kids had a blast hiking the trails and playing by the stream. It was so nice to unwind and have the kids off technology and experience nature. We will definitely do this again!
This cabin and the grounds are far more beautiful than the pictures. Our family had an amazing time and fell in love with Black Mountain. We will gladly stay here again and highly recommend to others.

Rich, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! There is a 1.5 mile gravel road to the property. Although it is a little bumpy ride going 10-15 mph, it is completely safe and acceptable for 2 wheel drive vehicles except in snow/ice conditions. The road is graded on a regular basis and gets occasional potholes when we get excessive rain. It sure beats driving in the city and dealing with continuous traffic jams, and the result is nature’s paradise!
We love Black Mountain. The Retreat feels like our home away from home. After many years of coming up here it never disappoints! If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and unwind, I highly recommend!!

About the host
Hosted by Sherri Mansell
Larry and Sherri live in south Florida with 4 children ages 22 to 35. Their parents live in NC and Georgia, and the family travels to western carolinas as much as possible. They love the outdoor hiking, boating and many other activities.
Why they chose this property
We wanted to be close to Asheville, a city with an airport, university and culture events, and also close to both parents in Geogia and NC. We love the quaint town of Black Mtn with great restaurants.
What makes this property unique
Biggest benefit is being only 10 minutes to town for food/gas/etc...and 20 minutes to the city of Asheville, BUT having a peaceful property with beautiful views and feeling like we are away from it all!!!
