★ A grown-up treehouse built for two, secluded in the woods.
Huckleberry is a canvas safari tent tucked into its own pocket of forest at Elk Hollow, one of the quieter, more private spots on the property. Guests keep calling it their grown-up treehouse, and that's the feeling: secluded, elevated, and adults-only, with the Smokies all around.
This is glamping, not camping. The walls are canvas, but the comforts aren't: a full kitchen, a spa-style bath, heat and AC, Starlink WiFi, and keyless entry. You'll fall asleep to the sounds of the woods, which is the point.
The bath is the slow-down room. A private hot tub on the deck looks into the mountains, and inside there's a spa-style soaking tub with an oversized tiled walk-in rain shower and a bench. Soak under the stars, soak out of the weather, soak twice in a day.
🛋️ INSIDE ➝ Open, light living room with overstuffed easy chairs and a Smart TV ➝ French doors and windows that bring the forest in ➝ Full kitchen: full-size fridge, gas range, oven, microwave, dishwasher, high-top table for two ➝ Starlink WiFi and a writing desk, so a workcation actually works here
🛏️ WHERE YOU'LL SLEEP ➝ Handcrafted barnwood king bed with plush linens and warm tones ➝ Spa-style indoor soaking tub ➝ Oversized tiled walk-in rain shower with a bench ★ Guests call the bed and the rain shower standouts, and the place "way more glamour than camping"
🌲 OUTSIDE ➝ Roomy wraparound deck with seating ➝ Private hot tub with mountain views, open year-round ➝ Fire pit just a few steps down for starlit evenings ➝ Gas grill for sunrise coffee or dinner under the string lights ➝ Watch for deer, elk, and other wildlife passing through
♥ WHO IT'S FOR Couples. Anniversaries, honeymoons, or a quiet escape off the grid, and it works as a workcation thanks to the Starlink and desk. Adults-only and secluded by design, so it's a getaway, not a party house.
🚗 GETTING HERE The access road is steep, so we recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle, especially in rain, and arriving before dark on your first trip. There are about three steps up to the entrance and a few more down to the fire pit, and the tent isn't wheelchair accessible. A couple of guests' GPS didn't like the address, so use the directions we send and message us if anything looks off. Five minutes from downtown Bryson City, with the Deep Creek entrance to the Smokies right down the hill.
➳ GOOD TO KNOW It's a canvas safari tent, so you'll hear the rain, the birds, and a bit more of the outdoors than a cabin. A couple of other tents sit nearby, though guests rarely notice them. It's glamping with a full kitchen, spa bath, and heat and AC, not roughing it, but the canvas and the steps are real and worth picturing before you book.

This was the perfect place to relax and getaway for a week. The luxury safari tent was even better than expected and so much better than an expensive hotel room. We loved it and highly recommend it! Hopefully we will get a chance to stay here again soon!
This was an amazing stay and everything was so simple to navigate. The owner gave perfect directions prior to our check in and included perfectly timed updates. We had brought some things for cooking that we thought may be needed, but kitchen had it all so we over packed, ha! Very clean rooms and a comfortable bed. Not one tho g was out of place. I truly think this was the best experience we have had renting. Very peaceful and just the perfect unique little staycation! Thank you for sharing!
We enjoyed a wonderful stay with amazing amenities at ‘Huckleberry’. Lots of attention to the little details! Location, privacy and very relaxing. We will be back! Highly recommend!
Fantastic place to stay! I went for some quiet time away from the city and this did not disappoint. Quant little town of Bryson City has some fun shops and the GSMT station and museum are a great excursion. Beautiful nights under the stars in the hot tub and it got cold enough that I even enjoyed a bonfire in the firepit. Definitely going back!
The property was perfect! We loved the Safari tent it was amazing! Relaxing quite, and the dog that visits was so sweet. Directions that the owner provided was easy to follow. Bryson City shops and where cute and the toasted Marshmallow hot chocolate was amazing. Our couple getaway was wonderful!
The property is beautiful and exactly what we were looking for! We loved the openness of the tent...just enough room for 2 people. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub while looking at the stars through the trees. The shower was wonderful; we didn’t use the tub. We found plenty of hiking trails and places to relax by the river. Perfect weekend to celebrate our first anniversary and we will definitely visit again!! Thank you for such a beautiful place!
Perfect. Super clean. Everything you needed was there. Actually met the owner, who happen to be there working. Lovely, gracious and thoughtful.

Very unique, quiet, clean, and private property. We were there for our 10th anniversary and wanted to ‘get away from it all’ and enjoy some time alone- this was perfect! We enjoyed sitting on the spacious deck and having morning coffee- and having an afternoon nap in the reclining chairs- at night we watched the twinkling stars from the hot tub. We did cook a few meals there- the kitchen was extremely well stocked with everything you would ever need- even spices, flour, sugar, and coffee and creamer!! The bed was comfy and the shower was huge. We really loved our stay and highly recommend!
From the time we arrived, we absolutely fell in love with your beautiful place. It’s by far one of the coolest, cleanest, neatest places we’ve ever experienced. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. I loved EVERYTHING about it! The bed was so comfortable! It was so well thought out and decorated! It had everything you’d need as if you were at home! The only regret we have, was we wished we would’ve stayed longer. We will be back and highly recommend this place. Five +star

About the host
Hosted by Kendra Jackson
Hi, I'm Jeanetta, your host at Elk Hollow.
After 34 years in the rental industry, and with my husband Mike behind me the whole way, I built the retreat I'd always wanted to stay in. Elk Hollow sits a mile from the Deep Creek entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, on quiet ground with a stream running through it, hardwoods overhead, and wild turkeys and deer that turn up like they own the place. They kind of do.
What I care about is that you arrive and exhale. That you feel relaxed, safe, and at home, with more to do nearby than you'll have time for.
I'm happiest outdoors. I have two children, six grandchildren, and friends I've kept my whole life, and most of my favorite memories were made in these mountains. I hope you make some here too.
Come see us.
Why they chose this property
Huckleberry is the grown-up treehouse, and it's adults-only.
A canvas safari tent tucked into its own pocket of forest, one of the quietest, most private spots on the property. No kids anywhere, just the two of you, the woods, and the Smokies.
It's also the one that works for a workcation. Starlink WiFi and a writing desk mean video calls actually hold, which is rare this far into the mountains, and a past guest booked it for exactly that.
Soak in the freestanding tub, stand under the oversized rain shower, then end the night in the hot tub with the fire going a few steps below. Anniversaries, honeymoons, or a quiet reset with nobody else's kids around.
