Visitors are learning that one of the best ways to experience the real Kaua’i and the aloha spirit is to get involved with a Voluntourism program. Through working with local residents on cultural and environmental projects, guests can participate in many rewarding experiences.
The Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Enrich Program is at the forefront of the voluntourism movement. Some of the participating programs are Kaua’i Humane Society, National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Surfrider Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
Additional opportunities include the Mālama Kaua’i Community Farm, the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge and the Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.
Good communication with host, best beach and sunrise view ever, nicely decorated

If you go to the sunset side of the island on the west side, you can sail along the secluded coast of Ni’ihau on a charter boat tour. It is seventeen miles off the west coast of Kaua’i and is the smallest of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands.
Ni'ihau, known as Hawaii's "Forbidden Isle," is famous for its restricted access, traditional Hawaiian lifestyle, and the famous intricate shell leis. It has a small population of native Hawaiians who speak a unique dialect and maintain a strong cultural identity, largely preserved by the Robinson family since 1864. Once anchored you can snorkel, scuba dive and view colorful schools of fish, dolphins and Hawaiian monk seals.
Was a wonderful stayWe loved watching the sunrise from the porch every morning.

Thank you for your review. The never-the-same sunrises are truly spectacular and a photographer dream come true. The condo’s eastside location gives easy access to various sites/activities, both north and south, as well as the coastal bike/walking path (Ke Ala Hele Makalae) directly in front of the unit. So glad that you enjoyed your stay.
Another great beachfront location on Kaua’i’s West Shore, at the west end of Hanapēpē, is Salt Pond Beach Park. It offers a perfect blend of serenity, natural beauty and activities. It gets it name from the natural salt ponds nearby, where Native Hawaiians have harvested salt for centuries. This salt was traditionally used for cooking and medicinal purposes, making the area an essential part of local Hawaiian culture. The park is well-equipped for a relaxing day by the ocean, featuring picnic tables, pavilions, and grassy areas shaded by palm trees.
Condo was absolutely beautiful and immaculately clean. It was equipped with everything you could possibly want - from every type of kitchen appliance and amenity, beach chairs and boogie boards, books, game, etc. etc. And the finale was the breathtaking views of the ocean from the condo and lanai. The owner was so accommodating - from the time we made our initial booking almost a year before our arrival until the day we checked out. We 100% recommend this unit and will definately try to book it again in the future.

If the amazing views of the ocean entice you to try your hand at fishing you may want to contact Breakaway Fishing Charters in Lihue with Captain Jeff Steiner at the helm. The vessel is a 34’ Radon sportfishing vessel that can carry up to 6 passengers. Rods, reels, lures, vests and snacks are provided and there is a restroom on board. A local fishing license is required before the trip. This information is usually available online or just ask the captain. The waters are known for a variety of fish. Previous guests who have participated in this activity have greatly enjoyed the experience - and they caught several fish!
Will definitely be coming back again, we had a great time!

During this time of the year, late December through mid-April, there is a good opportunity to view humpback whales from the island. Every year they swim 3,000 miles from their summer feeding grounds in Alaska to mate and calve in Hawai’i’s clear, warm waters. Some excellent shoreline viewing sites include Po’ipu Beach on the South Shore, Kilauea Point Lighthouse on the North Shore, and from Kapa’a Overlook, located between Kapa’a Town and Kealia Beach on the east side.
Clean, comfortable, and easy. From check in to check out, this place wonderful.Lots of parking, A/C, immediate beach access, amenities for lounging and fun.

Another fun activity is visiting the Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) at Po’ipū Beach. They can be seen basking on the sand, especially in the late afternoon and around sunset. The turtles come ashore to rest, bask in the sun and digest food. They typically leave the beach to return to the water around sunrise. The turtles are a protected species and should be admired from a distance. The areas where the turtles are resting often are marked off as a protection. Also, Po’ipū Beach is a popular destination for families due to its shallow, protected swimming areas and nearby amenities.
The condo was really comfortable and so well stocked. The owners had really thought of everything. We had a wonderful stay and would love to rent it again.

We look forward to our returning guests who come back to gather more wonderful memories on the Garden Island. If you don’t mind getting wet or soaring through the sky, visit Kaua’i Backcountry Adventures located just outside Līhu’e in the village of Hanamā’ulu. There you can take full advantage of a former magnificent sugar plantation parcel of land with zipline rides and ditched tubing. You can soar through the trees attached to a zipline or float in an inner tube down a 133-year-old irrigation ditch, navigating tunnels and flumes.
And Kapa’a town is easily a short walk to everything you need from condo

Old Kapa’a Town is a mixture of historic culture and modern style. Kapa’a was a fishing village before the sugar boom in the mid 1800's. The first sugar plantation near Kapa'a was opened in 1877.
It is now a thriving community of restaurants, shops, services, and small business owners who work together to spread aloha and share ideas that nurture the island. Whether you're looking for a cup of coffee, shave ice, a delicious meal, locally crafted clothes, or gifts to bring back home, Old Kapa'a Town is a family-friendly community with something for everyone.
Awesome location, just steps from the ocean, and at a reasonable (for Kauai!) price. We had our morning coffee on the lanai watching lovely sun rises every morning. This condo was extremely well equipped, very comfortably appointed, cute, and quiet. We plan to stay here again the next time we visit Kauai. The owner, Kathleen, was very responsive to our requests for information, and had assembled a binder for the condo that contained all the information that you need to get the most out of your visit to this lovely island. We especially liked the central location in Kapa’a, which allowed easy day visits to all the island attractions. It was a perfect place to have one of the most relaxing and comfortable vacations we have ever had!

If you look forward to a morning cup of coffee, you could enjoy experiencing the whole coffee process from beginning to end with a visit to the Kaua’i Coffee Company’s estate. It is located approximately 17 miles from the Lihue airport on Kaua’i’s southwest side. It is the largest coffee farm in the U.S. Self-guided walking tours of the estate are available daily. Signs identify the five different coffee varietals, as well as the entire coffee process from initial blossoming, through harvesting and processing to the final roasting. The Visitors Center is one of the few places where you can taste their entire line of 100% Hawaiian, estate-grown coffees. Every coffee bean is grown and roasted on the property.
Wonderful vacation rental right on the ocean. Fully stocked with everything you'd need. Kathleen, Eric and Grace were attentive and met our needs immediately. Will be returning.

You can visit something old made new! After years of rest, a 100 year old steam engine locomotive has been brought back to life. A blessing was held for “Kaipu”, one of the last locomotives brought to the islands for the Hawaiian Sugar Company. The locomotive was built in 1925 to help transport sugar cane on Kauai’s west side. The Grove Farm Company purchased Kaipu in 1945 and was in service until 1953. It was first restored to operating condition in 1982. The museum just has launched historic train tours starting this summer to help preserve this legacy for future generations. Tours are on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Advance reservations required.

When you visit Kaua’i you readily become aware of the “chicken friends” — or “moa” in Hawaiian. Why are there so many feral chickens on Kaua’i? Well as local lore goes, the hurricanes of 1982 (Iwa) and 1992 (Iniki) destroyed domestic coops, releasing the chickens into the jungles. These domesticated birds then mated with the wild red junglefowl (brought to the islands by the Polynesian) resulting in the feral chickens that are seen today.
Another theory says that Kaua’i was the only one of the Hawaiian Islands not to release an army of mongoose into the wild in 1883 to control rats in the sugarcane fields. The Indian mongoose also fed on chicken eggs, which naturally meant fewer chickens. Since Kaua’i did not participate in this mongoose project, to this day roosters and hens enjoy life on island with few predators.
This Villa is well situated on the beach. Walk right out to the beach and a rolling surf. The villa is clean, roomy and comfortable. Good bed, eating area, kitchen is well stocked. I would stay here again.

Glad that you enjoyed Pono Kai C102. The resort’s location is perfect for a variety of activities. Many of our guests are golf enthusiasts. The 18 hole putting green at the resort entertains both children and adults alike. There are several golf courses on Kauai. Wailua Golf Course is the closest to Pono Kai. It is the site of three USGA National Amateur Public Links Championships. It runs along the ocean next to the historic coconut palm groves. There also are mini golf courses on island. One is set in a lush Hawaiian botanical garden including water shots, pipe hazards and more.
The place is beautiful! The room was so cozy, clean, and the view was beautiful. I would recommend this place to others.

If you, too, enjoy the sounds of the ocean and the beauty of flowing water don’t miss Wailua Falls. It is a double-tiered waterfall that was featured in the opening scene of the TV show Fantasy Island. It also has been widely utilized in print and other forms of media for decades as a symbol of Kaua'i's lush beauty. Unlike many other Kaua'i waterfalls, Wailua Falls is easily accessible, as no hiking is needed to reach it and appreciate its beauty up close. The parking lot basically overlooks the falls. When the sun hits at just the right angle, a beautiful rainbow extends out from the base of the falls in the mist.
The road leading to Wailua Falls is located right after mile marker one on Hwy. 56. There is a road on your left- Maalo Road/Hwy. 583- accompanied by a sign pointing to the direction of the falls. Take the short drive up this road, which will end at a parking lot overlooking the falls.
Overall very pleased with the location and unit- highly recommend.

Pono Kai Resort’s location does gives easy access to many of Kaua’i’s memorable sites. If you would like to travel a scenic byway just head south on Kūhiō Highway, which becomes Kaumuali’i Highway, and make a left on Maluhia Road.
Holo Holo Kōloa Scenic Byway, on Kaua’i, is part of the National Scenic Byways Program. These 19-plus miles travel the coastline of world-class Kōloa Plain and connect many of the island’s most culturally significant places and landmarks, including Maluhia Road, and its beautiful eucalyptus tree tunnel, the Kōloa Sugar Monument and Old Kōloa Town, Prince Kūhiō Park, National Tropical Gardens, Keoneloa Bay, Hā’upu Mountain, as well as various temples and other historic sites.

Also, every Tuesday and Thursday, it is home to a Farmer’s Market in the parking lot from 9am to 1pm. On Wednesdays at 5pm and 1pm on Saturdays visitors can enjoy a free Hula Show. On Fridays at 5pm you can be entertained with free beautiful and relaxing music by Larry Rivera. Listings for additional activities and entertainment can be found on the Coconut Marketplace calendar.

Since the condo is oceanfront, the majority of the resort’s activities are behind the unit, allowing for an optimal location for remote working. There is secure WiFi in the unit and several outlet extensions with multi plugs, USB ports and USB-C ports.
On occasion, the unit has been rented by guests specifically looking for a relaxing place to work remotely and then experience sightseeing activities during non-working hours. There also is WiFi in the pool area and lobby of the resort.

If your perfect stay includes snorkeling, then Kauai is a great place for you. The Keiki Pond at Lydgate Park on the east side and Po’ipu Beach Park on the south side are great for beginners.
The pond at Lydgate Park is protected year round from the surf by a man-made rock wall. The pond gets as deep as 10 feet in places and there are numerous fish swimming near the outer rocks.
Po’ipu Beach Park is great as long as there is not a large south swell. This snorkeling area is small, as most of the area has a sand bottom. You may even spot a Hawaiian monk seal lying on the beach.
If you are a strong swimmer and advanced snorkeler then you may enjoy Nualolo Kai on the NaPali Coast, Ke’e Beach at the end of the road on the North Shore or Tunnels Beach, Hideaway Beach, Koloa Landing or Lawai Beach.
The beach is a 100 feet from your room and you can walk to all the stores and restaurants

Pono Kai Resort, centrally located on the east side, does give good access to the beautiful sites on the north and south shores of the island. If you would like to drive a self-guided tour to see the sites, Shaka Guide provides four tours for Kaua’i: North Shore Kaua’i, Waimea and Na Pali, Wailua Valley and Waterfalls, and Po’ipu and Koloa.
Once the app (Shaka Guide: GPS Driving Tours) is downloaded to your device and the trip is selected, GPS is used to play automatically as you drive. While touring, the guide provides turn-by-turn directions, stories and music along the way. You can pick the stops you like and skip the ones you don’t. Not only will you experience the beautiful sites but you also will hear their history and legends. (Tours can be downloaded prior to arrival on island.)
Close to shopping and great food options. It had everything that you need in the condo for beach fun and traveling. Lots to do and see on the island. Days are to short is my only complaint wish we had more light to explore longer.

There are many and fun things to do and see on Kauai. Have you ever wanted to walk on water? Stand-up paddling is a popular sport. Paddlers stand on a large longboard and use a canoe paddle to propel through the water. With lightweight paddles and extra-wide, aerodynamic surfboards, and a bit of good balance, you can cruise around looking for reefs and fish, ride the waves or take a slow trip up a river.

The Condé Nast Traveler calls Kaua’i, “A Little Slice of Heaven”. The dedicated staff at Pono Kai work daily to keep the resort Hawaiian gardens and multiple onsite activities in pristine condition.

We bought are first timeshare at Pono Kai 20 years ago and fell in love with the resort and location. We dreamed of spending a major portion of our retirement on Kauai and bought 6 weeks of timeshare over the years. Finally, our real dream came true when we were able to purchase one of the few privately owned units at the resort. We still own 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom and one week in a 1 bedroom with a loft timeshare so we can share our love with friends and family.
Why they chose this property
This is truly paradise to us. KAUAI..a well maintained resort.....a beautiful condo on the ocean...close to everything we need. We don't even need to drive if we couldn't or didn't want to. What more could you ask for?
