About this property

The Vogel Nest

Our cozy cottage for 2 is a hundred yards from the Pine Creek Rail Trail. More than just a cabin, we provide clean bed linens and towels, a full kitchen with clothes washer/dryer, a Keurig coffee maker and coffee, pots and pans, dishes and utensils.
We include moderate amounts of bath, hand and dish soaps, paper towels, trash bags and toilet paper. You'll appreciate the ease of check-in with the keypad door lock. The Vogel Nest living room boasts 2 recliners, a love seat, streaming HDTV, a DVD player and natural gas fireplace (operational in the heating season). A mini-split heat pump furnishes additional heating and cooling. The beautiful bedroom features a queen bed with an en suite bath with shower. Enjoy your morning coffee on the large front porch. Or relax at the picnic table near the fire ring and gas grill. Besides high speed WIFI, you'll have free unlimited long distance calling on a landline phone with voicemail. We have five bars of cell phone service at the cottage.

The Vogel Nest is located at 1268 Marsh Creek Road. Historic Wellsboro is about 9 miles east of the cottage, where you can walk gas lit streets to enjoy shops, a local brewery, restaurants, the 100 year old Arcadia Movie Theater, the Deane Center for performing arts and seasonal entertainment.

This country retreat is perfectly located for outdoor enthusiasts. At the northern end of the PA Grand Canyon, The Vogel Nest cottage is in the heart of scenic "PA Wilds". No need to drive to the 62+ mile long Pine Creek Rail Trail...it's 100 yards away! Ole Covered Wagon rides into the Grand Canyon is a half mile from the cottage. Pine Creek Outfitters, less than 2 miles away, offers canoe, kayak, raft and bike rentals as well rafting adventures and shuttle service. We're a mile from the Big Meadows Canoe Access to Pine Creek. Marsh Creek, a stocked trout stream, is a 5 minute walk away. There's a 3.3 mile delayed harvest "Keystone Select" section on Pine Creek less than 2 miles away. The Keystone Select Stocked Trout Waters program provides anglers with an exciting opportunity to fish for larger trout measuring between 14 to 20 inches under the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only Special Regulations. Big Meadows fly shop is just a mile away from the Nest.

For hikers and backpackers, the northern terminus of the 30 mile West Rim Trail is less than 2 miles from the cottage. Colton Point and Leonard Harrison State Parks are within 7 miles of The Vogel Nest. There are 7 PA state parks and 2 federal recreation area lakes within 30 miles. In winter, ride hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails right from the cottage or enjoy a day on the slopes of Ski Sawmill.

Public land abounds in the area for sightseeing, photography, hunting and fishing. Don't be surprised to see bear, turkey, deer, muskrat and beaver, bald eagles, osprey, herons, kingfishers, turtles, ducks and geese near the cottage. It's a birder's paradise!

Local events include the Night Sky Tour at Cherry Springs State Park in May, Morris Fire Company Rattlesnake Round-Up in June, God's Country Marathon Race in Galeton in June, PA State Laurel Festival in June, the Bark Peelers Festival at the PA Lumber Museum in July, Conquer the Canyon Marathon in July, Endless Mountain Music Festival in July-August, the Tioga County Fair in August, the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR) in September, Green Monster Trail Challenge race in October and last but not least the Dickens of a Christmas in December. About the host

Hosted by Jim and Michelle Vogel

Host profile image
Jim grew up coming to Ansonia to visit his grandparents who were the last owners of the Ansonia Hotel in the 1950's and 60's. The state removed the hotel to relocate the Route 6 bridge over Marsh Creek at Ansonia in 1970. We continued a presence in the area as Jim's father and grandparents owned a camp a few miles west at Grub Hole. In 2003 Jim, who's from Somerset County and Michelle, who's from Berks County, married and moved to Cedar Run, PA to open Canyon Country Cottages. In 2008, we added the Ansonia Trailside Cottage to our rental portfolio, just one mile from the Ansonia bridge. 2021 brought many changes to Canyon Country Cottages. We sold our Cedar Run home, our Creekside Cottage rental and moved into our Ansonia Trailside Cottage to downsize our lives and semi-retire. Nearby we renovated a property to create "The Vogel Nest"... a lovely cottage for two. Michelle, now retired from her speech pathology career, has made this cottage our best ever. Having experienced his grandparents hospitality at the Ansonia Hotel, combined with Michelle's gift of hospitality, we love the rental business and enjoy putting a smile on our guests faces by providing rest, privacy and an open ear if that's what's need. We are here for you.
