We stayed at Aunt Betty’s Cottage for 8 nights. I understand and appreciate the vintage/nostalgic concept behind the home, and the kitchen was clean, which was nice. Unfortunately, the overall condition and comfort of the house made for a very disappointing stay. The couch pictured in the listing was not there and had been replaced with a very small, uncomfortable couch. The advertised green armchair was so worn and broken down that it wasn't usable. The king bed was broken, another bed was noticeably slanted, and the bedding and towels were old and uncomfortable. There was scum around the tub, the house had a persistent musty smell, and the washer left residue on our clothes. We chose a private home for the first time after 17 years of visiting Chicago because we wanted somewhere comfortable to relax. Instead, we often left first thing in the morning and stayed out all day because the house was so uncomfortable. We did not contact the host during our stay because most of the issues were not things that could realistically be fixed during our visit—they would require replacing or repairing furniture, bedding, towels, and other items. I hope the host takes this feedback constructively, because the cottage has a charming concept, but the comfort and condition need significant attention.
