Stopped in to see our son. This property was close, clean and convenient. Host had excellent communication and was very well set up to help us get in and out easily.
The Stay was wonderful, as stated by others, the ally and some of the walk if you get off on the wrong side of the metro station can be a bit sketchy at night (get off towards the elevator, not towards the monument then you are basically right there), but once we entered in the back yard, the space was beautiful and clean! Would stay again.

Thanks for staying with us. It was a pleasure to host you and guide you properly to where to eat and go out. Our rates are competitive to any hotel and short term rental in Washington DC. All fees are shown before you book. Also if a guest prior to booking have any questions, we here to assist. We hope you had a safe travel back home.
Great value for such an expensive city. Comfy bed, good water pressure and heat. Location is excellent. Entry through alleyway is a little sketchy if you enter from the opposite end (the one furthest from the street) but if you enter from the closer side you're fine. DC can be sketchy like that, but we didn't experience anything dangerous when approaching from the shorter side. I would stay here again.

Glad you enjoyed our property. The entrance is via our lovely patio which we have plants and chairs for our guests to use.. We are in the center of the city where you can walk to most attractions. The back entrance is light up and if you follow my instructions it is very clear and safe.

Disliked: Location
Rats, addicts, crime and more…
If you enjoy rats, rat droppings, dark alleys with addicts in need of emergency services, and an area with crime so out of control that police have instituted a mandatory curfew – then this property is right for you. The entrance to the property is literally in a dangerous alley with all of the aforementioned issues visible on any given day at any time of the day. I have never stayed somewhere so dangerous and sketchy – and I genuinely believe that this property should not be allowed to host guests. The alley entrance and the situation in that alley (rats, rat feces, literal crackheads, emergency responders dealing with addicts, etc) are what makes this property particularly problematic.
The front of the property doesn’t allow for guests to enter, and the main street is not much better. There were at least five vehicle break-ins outside the house while I stayed at this property. The area in general has so much crime that it is, at the time of this writing, under mandatory police curfew -- just search for "DC U Street curfew".
My stay was for seven nights, and I would never advise anyone at all -- much less solo travellers (particularly women) to stay at this property. On the plus side, the host is very responsive and the modest studio was fine on the inside. But, the surroundings are so troubling that I cannot in good conscience fail to share these important details with other potential guests.

We have been renting our English basement for 10 years. We truly enjoying hosting. Our property is located in a historical and vibrant neighborhood which has become very popular to locals and visitors. Our neighborhood median homes are averaging 1.3/1.5 million dollars. Our property is fully renovated and with an amazing backyard that all our guests can enjoy. We enjoy our outdoors and love to share it with our guests. We use all the time our back entrance and as a female that I’m, I have never had an issue with safety. We can walk pretty much to most attractions of the city, metro is just around the corner, buses, bikes and scooters — we walk to the white house all the time and it takes about 15-20 mins. You find over 200 restaurants, bars and lounges in the neighborhood. There is a Trader Joe’s on the same street as the property, a Walgreens right behind the property, shops, gyms, galleries, parks and schools. The building behind our property is a brand new building where it’s rents starts at $3200 a month. You don’t really have to go far to find a Michelin start restaurant as we have a few just around the corner. We have been in DC for about 20 years and love the city life and our neighborhood. Since you arrived you have been issues communicating and following directions. You refused to talk to us a few times we were trying to assist you. Sadly your review is about the local issues most cities have. You must have not traveled a lot and neither experience “airbnb” facilities. DC like most major cities have issues that local governments do their best to mitigate. Just as of august 31, 2023 the district implemented a city wide curfew for kids under 17 years of age, it is not a curfew for everyone. Sadly there were too many kids running around the city unsupervised at all hours of the day. Before you quote a law or ordinance you should give a background. In addition , the city has a program to mitigate with rodents issues. Sadly any big city faces issues with pollution. We park on the street and have never had a broken window. I advised all my guests that drive to not leave anything in their car .We love to assist all of our guests and make them feel welcome. Our #1 priority is safety and cleaning as we want all our guests to feel like home. We have never had a guests review our property based on the local issues. We promptly answer and assist you with all issues. We guarantee a very comfortable , clean place. Our neighborhood is full of life. If you came to DC to feel that you are in a mountain life style then definitely don’t visit DC. You are a traveler that should stay a chain hotel where you might feel safer. We are very involved in our neighborhood and work with local officials. For you to say out property should not be hosting people is wrong as we have been hosting successfully for 10 years. We become friends with many of our guests who traveled from various part of the world. We also have repeated guests stay at our property. May your next review is a true review based on the property.
This small space lives big. A very workable kitchen has been cleverly tucked into a studio apartment. Close to a Metro stop it’s walkable to many good restaurants and Trader Joe’s. The owner’s printed sign in the bathroom prohibiting the flushing of toilet paper is our only hesitation to giving this a 5 star review. A small wastebasket was provided. Hopefully this plumbing situation is only temporary. We asked for clarification with the owner and she said indeed no toilet paper could be flushed. This should be spelled out on the listing.
Excellent stay in this basement studio. We were able to get street parking, and the host put a temporary permit on the dashboard of our car (with our permission of course) which made things a lot easier for us. Bed was comfy and we had everything we needed for our stay in DC. Wish we could have met her, next time…
This was a perfect space for a long weekend in DC. You can’t beat the location for the shopping, restaurants and ambiance. This is a very walkable neighborhood and the metro is close by to get anywhere you like.
I found this space to be quiet, safe, clean and full of amenities. The owner was quick to respond to messages and offered a perfect stay. I most definitely would stay here again.

My stay in the Cardozo neighborhood in DC was great. The host was so friendly and accommodating. Easy access to anything your heart and taste buds desire. The property is accurately described and is hip and inviting. Do not hesitate to book. I highly recommend!
Couldn’t ask for more with the location. We came for a concert that got canceled. As such, we ended up staying in and ordering a lot of door dash! My main complain was having to walk to the front of the house (around the block) to pick up my door dash orders. Obviously no fault of the owners of the house 😺Bed was comfy, towels were clean and thick, everything was very nice.
The instructions to access the property were very accurate and the room is exactly as advertised. Tricia has been the epitome of an accommodating, helpful hostess. She really goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. If you're looking for a home away from home, this is the place.

Great location
The one-room apartment is big and in the basement (this is why I only gave three stars), so nice and cool especially in the summer. Windows are small, but everything tidy, clean and new. The location is really good, in a quiet street but right in the middle of the U-Street area with good restaurants, trendy bars, and a Jazz Bar. Also, the subway is literally at the corner. The owner is super-friendly and very reactive and flexible, if you have any needs.

Great location and great hostess
Tricia was a great hostess. We were close to a metro station and in a nice neighborhood with little street noise. The king size bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean. My son said "this is the best couch I've ever slept on." Tricia had a bottle of wine waiting for us and was able to accommodate our need for an earlier check in. Her restaurant suggestions were terrific. We loved Matchbox so much, we ate there twice. If we are back in DC, we would stay here again.
We stayed in early April.
If there are more than 2 people (and a child), it would be cramped, but for the 3 of us, it was perfect.

perfect location - 14th and U is not what is was 50 years ago.
Basement apartment with light from window and door - cool in the hot days of DC. All amenities. table to sit and work - no desk - lighting good, refrigerator works, great shower. Quiet neighborhood. Nice bars and eating establishments around the corner. Access to metro a bit difficult this summer, but par for the rest of DC. Never needed to contact owner - nice bottle of wine provided.

Very nice and helpful owner. Good, safe location with many restaurant options.
This Cardoza/Shaw neighborhood property is not large but was perfectly comfortable for me , my wife and my daughter. This neighborhood is a little over a mile north of the White House so walkable if you chose. Or an inexpensive Uber ride to about any site of interest you might want to venture to while in D.C. Having a Trader Joe's, Starbucks (as well as Dunkin Donuts) in close proximity were added bonuses.
Enjoyed meeting and talking with the owner who was very accommodating and responsive when looking for suggestions for dining, etc.

Awesome, awesome, awesome place to stay in Washington DC!
The location cannot be beat. Tricia is a wonderful host. She was so helpful in finding landmarks and restaurants. And she totally knows where the best chicken wings in DC are located, all you have to do is ask her! She was a fabulous host and we cannot say how wonderful our experience was. Very clean place, very quiet, wonderful host... my only regret is we couldn't stay longer!

Perfect place to stay!
We came for the weekend to visit friends and have fun. This was the perfect place. Great location. Everything is in walking distance. Very safe area. Owner is really nice and very helpful. We will definitely be back. Just be careful of parking signs. We parked to unload the car and came back to a ticket. There are a couple of long term parking lots within walking distance. We used the one that had in and out priveleges. Just google u street corridor parking.

Glad your daughter and friend enjoyed their stay here in DC. Please come back and visit us again. Sorry to hear they got a parking ticket. We offered information regarding the parking restrictions in DC for none DC residents prior to their arrival and we were told no need information as they were parking in a private parking. We love to help our guests as much as possible and wished your daughter and friend have asked us about temporary parking in the streets in DC. Please ask us next time so we can prevent any future citations. Thanks again for staying at our property.

I am a fun, diverse person who enjoys traveling, love to learn about other people's cultures, a foody, wine lover and believes music is what brings life to us. I am multilingual who speaks Spanish, Italian, some French and can understand Portuguese. My top places so far that I have visited and could go back to are Thailand, Turkey, Italy, France, Barcelona, South Korea, Roatan, Bocas del Toro, Puerto Rico and the Greek Islands. But I could probably visit many other places, as traveling is a passion for me! I have stayed in many type of lodges/hotels and I believe the best ones are the one that you feel comfortable and at home. I really hope you enjoy the stay at our place and will be a home away from home.
