Host Info
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. She lives nearby and is available 24/7 to assist her guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
Porcupine Bluff is on Bark Point, a spit of land that extends several miles out into Lake Superior. From the property you've got a great view of the bay behind the point, and you're also just a few minutes from the beautiful estuary at the head of the bay. To get your feet wet in the open water of Lake Superior there’s no better spot than Herbster Beach, which is just a few minutes down the road.
The other South Shore towns, Port Wing to the west and Cornucopia to the east, are both close by, both with their own beaches. Port Wing has an awesome coffee shop that roasts its own beans (we stock them in the house) and a great little convenience store with a fish counter. Cornucopia (or ‘Corny' as the locals call it) has an excellent coffee shop, a general store, and a few restaurants and shops. It can be a little more crowded, but it's got a few more amenities, too. Bayfield is close by, too, about 45 minutes’ drive: perfect to check out the attractions over there then return to your South Shore oasis for another Superior sunset. Ashland, where you’ll find more stores and amenities, is just under an hour away. Duluth and Superior are about and hour and a quarter to the west.
The Area
The home is just a few minutes from the center of Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Bayfield is about 35 minutes away, as is Washburn (where the largest grocery store is in the area). Ashland is about 45 minutes away (which has a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.
Property Details
The home’s exterior is sleek and modern, but still blends beautifully into the scenic beauty of the Northwoods. The interior is all about clean, modern lines that don’t distract from the views to the outside, accented by carefully curated (and at times, quirky) art & other decor flourishes. But this property isn’t just about it’s looks: you’ll find every creature comfort and amenity necessary to get the most out of your stay!
The open plan living/dining/kitchen area looks out onto the patio and the woods. The living area is anchored by an electric fireplace. The kitchen is incredibly well-outfitted with every appliance (even a countertop ice maker!) and utensil you could want to enjoy meals “at home.”
The primary bedroom features a king bed, serene views, and an en suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower.
The second bedroom is for the kids (including the inner child of every adult). The built-in bunk beds are a delight! The lower bunk has a queen mattress and we just can’t get over the adorable light-blocking curtains you can pull across the bunk for a cozy night’s sleep. Please note: due to state health department rules & our need to protect our cleaning team members' safety, bedding will be left out for the top bunk, but guests will need to make that bed up themselves.
The second bathroom has a bathtub/shower combo. And right next door is the laundry room, with full-size washer & dryer!
You can step out to the patio from the great room, where there’s a dining table, gas grill, and lounge seating.
There’s a magical trail that leads from the home to the edge of the property, where you can sit around the fire pit and enjoy incredible views of the lake. Or perhaps you’d prefer to enjoy a nap in the nearby hammock! Adding to the magic are mystical gnomes that have been hidden all along the path. A special prize awaits anyone who can find them all!
Porcupine Bluff has everything one could hope for creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Transit Info
Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!
