About this property
Historic Cabin inside Kings Canyon National Park
Welcome to the Knotty Cabin! This is a unique opportunity to stay in a privately-owned cabin in the Grant Grove section of Kings Canyon National Park. The historical community of Wilsonia was established in 1918 and is just minutes away from the General Grant Tree.
The Knotty Cabin was built in 1923. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It was recently updated with many modern conveniences while retaining its rustic, historical feel. Step back in time and enjoy the slow pace of cabin life.
Bedroom 1: downstairs, 1 queen bed
Bedroom 2: upstairs, 1 queen bed, 1 cot sized bed
Bedroom 3: upstairs, 2 twin beds
Bathroom 1: Downstairs, bathtub
Bathroom 2: Upstairs, shower
Guest have access to all spaces except the garage.
You can reach me anytime with any questions or concerns.
The cabin is in walking distance of the Kings Canyon National Park Visitor Center, the gift shop, grocery store, restaurant and the General Grant Tree (The Nation's Christmas Tree). Hume Lake is about 20 minutes away. Other attractions nearby include Big Stump Meadow, Boole Tree, Converse Basin, and Panoramic Point, among others.
The grocery store at Grant Grove has a limited selection. It is best to bring your own food.
There is no gas station in Grant Grove. Plan accordingly.
Please note, the stairs to the second floor are quite steep and narrow. We recommend using the handrails and taking extra care while going up or down. There are some charming, yet uneven, rock paths around the cabin, as well as steps outside each exterior door. We encourage you to move carefully while you enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Our cabin boasts central heat, easily controlled with a Nest thermostat, so you can stay warm and cozy no matter the cold weather outside.
We’re excited to offer Starlink, providing unlimited high-speed internet during your stay!
We have 2 Roku Smart TVs, one upstairs (40 inch) in the TV room and one downstairs (32 inch) in the living room.
During the winter season (October-May), snow is common, so be sure to carry chains. If the driveway gets snowed in, feel free to park in the lot just past the cabin on Park Road. Please back in perpendicular and leave your phone number in case the snowplow needs to contact you.
Wilsonia doesn’t have trash service during the winter months (late October - early May). We kindly ask that you take your trash with you when you depart. You can drop it off at the dumpsters located in the Azalea Campground or the Big Stump parking lot or in the trash cans at the Grant Grove Visitors Center.
To ensure we have enough towels and amenities for everyone, please make sure all guests are included in your reservation. Our cabin has sleeping space for up to 7 guests, so we kindly ask that you don’t exceed that number. This helps us provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone.

About the host
Hosted by Heather Owen

I’m Heather, a mom to three amazing boys—ages 18, 15, and 12. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to host, as it allows me to stay home with my children and be there for them every day. My youngest son, who has special needs, is my inspiration behind this journey. The revenue from my hosting business is helping me secure a stable and fulfilling future for him, and I truly believe that every guest who stays with us is part of that important story.
I’ve been hosting for a little over two years now, and it’s been such a rewarding experience. I host three unique properties—one nestled in the Kings Canyon National Park and two in Prunedale, CA. Each place is special in its own way, and I take great pride in making sure they feel like a cozy, welcoming home away from home for my guests.
Being able to build a future for my son while also sharing these special places with others is a dream come true. Hosting gives me the flexibility to focus on his needs and create a plan for his future, all while providing a unique stay to the guests who pass through our doors. I strive to make sure your stay is just what you need—warm, welcoming, and full of good memories. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.

Why they chose this property
My great Grandfather bought a cabin in Wilsonia back in the early 1920s. It has been in our family ever since. I grew up exploring the mountains around Wilsonia. My husband and I had an opportunity to buy our own cabin. The whole family spent a year fixing it up and doing and an extensive remodel. Now we are making family memories in our own cabin and are happy to share the traditions of Wilsonia with our guests.
What makes this property unique
Our property is a privately owned cabin in the middle of Kings Canyon National Park. It is within walking distance of the General Grant Tree and the Grant Grove Visitor's Center. It was built in 1923 and has been remodeled. We kept the rustic feel of a cabin in the woods while adding many modern conveniences.
