About this property
Quiet mountain getaway that is centerally located from coast to desert.
1100 sq ft, one bedroom guest house with an open floor plan that includes a large indoor, circular sunken fireplace and lots of privacy on three acres is located on a designated 'Native America Heritage Site'. This property has one of the largest Mortero collections in the county (where early Native Americans used the local rocks to grind their grains and medicines). Set among mature Live Oaks, Manzanita and various pine trees, this spacious and serene getaway will take your breath away! We are close enough to enjoy everything that San Diego has to offer but a world away from the traffic and congestion of the city.
There is just so much you can do year round - Mountain biking, hiking, fishing. Besides the beach and all the water activities, you can also venture into the desert on ATVs or Dune Buggies.
Live music at all levels from concerts to cafes, Balboa Park, fine arts, fine dining and, of course, the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park and SeaWorld.
Norwegian Woods is also a prime location for artists to spend time writing and painting as the grounds are an inspiration for quiet creativity.
For the romantic, it's an opportunity to come together in a natural, peaceful setting. Isn’t it good…Norwegian Wood.

Comfortable Mid-century modern home in rural setting. Large fenced yard with trees all around. Comfy bed; unique indoor fireplace. Loved relaxing on the patio in the afternoons. We hiked Mount Laguna, and the Pine Creek trail. We had sub sandwiches at the Pine Valley market and deli, and Veggie burgers at Frosty Burger (also best malt ever). Very quiet. (Although a wild turkey and and a rooster were seemingly calling to each other one morning, it just served to enhanced the country feel.)
Property is in a beautiful area. The house was truly one-of-a-kind. The sunken living room / fireplace was a trip back in time — groovy! The expansive grounds were a treat. The owner’s house was on the property but privacy was never an issue. The weather, while we were there, was perfect. There were plenty of things to do and explore in the area. We drove through the spectacular blooming desert. One or two quibbles: kitchen could have used salt& pepper, a signal booster for the Wi-Fi wouldn’t have gone amiss and though coffee was provided there was no creamer or sweetener. But, overall, we would highly recommend this place to any and all.
All beautiful and relaxing environment. This is ideal to disconnect from the daily routine. My dogs were happy here too. The property management is responsive and nice. I’ll be coming back again for sure.
We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful getaway home and property. The host was fantastic, and it was our first time using VRBO. Overall, it was a great experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Our family stayed for the weekend and had an amazing time. Dog friendly, clean and had a lot of little details that made our stay enjoyable. We can’t wait to return.
We were staying to be close to a wedding at Mt Laguna. The home was in a good location and so peaceful. The AC was wonderful after being out in the heat all day.
I love staying at Norwegian Woods. It’s peaceful and quiet and my dogs really enjoy it. I had a little difficulty with check in this time due to an error but the hosts quickly rectified it and all was well. I look forward to my next stay here.
Much appreciated my stay. Very clean (my highest priority) with full kitchen. 10 minute drive to the many trails of the Laguna area. Thanks to the hosts for providing such a nice space.
Great stay in a secluded small mountain community. This is our second stay at this property and we love it even more. Really cozy place with the unique fireplace and comfortable beds. Love the outdoor space for the dogs to run around. Hosts are very responsive. They are on the property, but still feels like there is privacy at the same time. Will definitely stay again!
This was a perfect weekend getaway in the woods surrounded by nature. It felt like a little "Norwegian" mountain paradise. The conversation pit was such a fun feature! We took advantage of the easy access to nature and truly enjoyed our stay.
Great cabin location and comfort. Enjoyed the 70s vibe and fireplace. The cabin was close for the mountain biking we had planned for the weekend. Celebrated a birthday. Definitely would book the cabin again for future trips. The host was wonderful and helpful too. Clan Fraser
The photos in listing do not do this lovely cabin justice. It is a wonderful property. Cabin is roomy, has excellent amenities and was in a great location to explore the surrounding areas. The yard is expansive and beautiful with lots of nooks to relax in. Cabin is located very near to the main home of the property owners, but still feels very private.

About the host
Hosted by Doris or Odd Busk
Both are adoring grandparents and their sizable families live within a few hours drive all around San Diego County. Doris is a California girl and a Five Star Chef and her husband, Odd is a native-born Norwegian, a retired oil platform engineer. They purchased this house in 1995 and have recreated a path together with Norwegian Woods, your home away from home.
With over ten years as the Chef at an upscale B&B, and my Norwegian-born husband, a retired oil platform engineer, we made the decision to recreate our paths.
Why they chose this property
We chose this property because of its peaceful energy and unique Native American history, and old growth forest setting.
What makes this property unique
The tranquil setting among the trees enhances the privacy unlike any other.
Inside, the circular fireplace beckons you to gather round and enjoy a cocktail or toddy, tea or coffee and each other.
The property sits on a designated 'Kumuyaay Native American Heritage' site with one of the largest known collections of rock morteros in this area, along with many pottery shards
The property was a part a summer/fall encampment for desert and coastal Indian bands for hundreds and possibly thousands of years. According to many local tribal members familiar with the property, this is a very special place and blessed. We believe them.
