About this property

Classic Island Cottage

Spacious, charming 1896 cottage at the top of quiet, magical footpath. Has a secluded, peaceful feel but is only a 2-3 min. walk to island grocery store, restaurants, coffee shop, ice cream, 5 min. to ferry and 8 min. walk to Sandy Beach. Also convenient for weddings at the Inn. Relax on the sun or open-air porches, read a book by the gas fireplace at night, grill your dinner on the back deck or pop in to Portland for a day trip on the ferry. The cottage retains a rustic feel, but various updates (e.g., comfortable beds) make this a delightful home-away-from-home for your relaxed island holiday. (Please note that guests bring their own sheets, but we provide blankets, pillows. duvets and bath towels) Welcome to the Coast of Maine! STHR-000215-2018

Had to book a quick two night stay in the Portland Area and found this great little cottage. Absolutely charming. Very comfortable beds and cozy comforters. Can't beat the location. Only one suggestion -- first night was pretty cold for early October and the space heaters took a while to warm up the place. So keep an eye on the overnight temps when you pack. That said, we had a wonderful stay.

Great cottage!

Loved the cottage, has great character, very clean and convenient location to ferries, restaurants. Best part of the island was Sandy Beach for the kids and riding the golf cart around the beautiful island!

Charming house and convenient location

Charming house and convenient location a short walk from town. Host promptly & helpfully responded to questions. House was spacious and was great for a group with multiple areas to hang out, both inside and out.

nice house & location

The front porch and rear deck meant that as the sun progressed across the house, there was always a place to soak it in or avoid direct rays. The charming house suited us very well. And the location was ideal, a short walk along the path to 'down front', the town around the ferry landing, or a nice bicycle ride around the island and along the seashore.

Charming Island Cottage

We stayed 5 nights at this cottage on Peaks Island and we loved it! There was plenty of space for my family (myself, husband, and 3 kids) to relax, sleep, and eat. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and plenty of dishes. Tim was excellent at reaching out to make sure everything was ok and ask if we had any questions. We had delicious pastries at Baba's and Unruly Girl's Cafe, wood fired pizza at Il Leone, ice cream at Down Front. We took day trips to Acadia National Park and Portland and the ferry was easy to navigate for both taking our car and just riding as passengers. We loved this house and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The cottage was Perfect!

When I walked in I felt my dream of a Maine ocean cottage had come true! It was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Loved the Andrew Wyeth artwork throughout the cottage. Tim was an excellent host...friendly and easy to communicate with. Received a welcome text and a departing text...very thoughtful. Great location! Short walk to the Ferry, the Inn, the Church and the Market. It was the perfect place to stay for my nieces wedding weekend. Already dreaming of my next visit! Hoping to return next summer for a longer visit!

Cottage perfect for blissful respite

We came for a family reunion and had a fantastic time! The home was charming, beautifully maintained — a historic gem well-situated on enchanting Peaks Island. The beautiful wrap-around porches and cozy well-kept back yard and deck were great for entertaining. The open plan kitchen and dining area were perfect for family suppers. We were happily surprised by the large bed rooms complete with good beds, comforters, and fans so we were set for any weather. The little sunroom provided a great spot for jigsaw puzzles and quiet reading. It was a short pretty stroll to the main shops including the ice-cream stand that we visited nearly every day, and our favorite spot to soak in the sun, Sandy Beach. I would recommend this gorgeous cottage to anyone ready to get away from it all. (Though it does have wifi! if you need to be connected!)

Wonderful old summer cottage

We were here to escape black flies back in NH. A couple of notes: listing doesn’t expressly say bed linens are not included, and by the time you get the welcome letter, you’ve already booked. Also, having to wash, dry, and put away towels prior to departure, was awkward for me, so i added towels to the bed linens bag. Coffee maker is a regular drip style, not a “drop and press” (French press) We love this beautiful, well kept cottage, it’s roomy, well laid out, plenty of amenities, lots of old charm, but very convenient living! Faves: front porch, street lights on the path to town, slate kitchen sink, gas heat (stove) in kitchen - we had a couple of very cold/windy days. We even closed living room and unused bedroom door to keep heat in kitchen area. Bikes were a must for us. We brought a vehicle to carry all our bins, bags, bikes, and cooler. Well worth it. Would we come back? You betcha! Thank you for sharing your antique cottage!

We traveled to Peaks Island for a wedding so really only used the home to sleep and shower. Beds were comfortable and it was clean. It’s an older home without a lot of frills but worked well for what we needed. Communication with the host was great so we knew exactly what to expect.

Coastal Cabin Bliss

I've been to Portland once before. Lots of hustle and bustle and things to do and eat and buy and that's great, but just a short ferry ride away is the relative seclusion and tranquility of Peaks island, and I enjoyed that much more. The cabin, like many others on the island, is a seasonal dwelling. It's campy, simple, slightly set back in time, but also very comfortable and well furnished. The kitchen has everything for home cooking. We especially liked the closed in porch. Great dining spot for 2. The island itself is all the destination we needed. Walk the coastlines; picnic point and the seaside were great rocky shores to explore. Everywhere you look on the island, people seem to share a flare for landscaping. All the island's dining, shopping, etc is in on one strip at the front side (ferry side) of the island. Once we got there, we had no reason or desire to leave.

Magpie’s Nest

This rustic, spacious cottage was very comfortable and centered close to the shore, town and nestled privately. The kitchen/dining room is lovely and nostalgic. The living area is pretty, simple and comfortable as are both front and back decks. The master bed is very comfortable and upstairs overall quite pleasant. We had a lovely stay!

My wife and I teach at a college in the Midwest but are from New England. We have two kids.

Why they chose this property

We bought this place to set down roots on the East Coast again, to reconnect our family with family and friends in the summer time and because we love Maine. We hope you will love this cottage and your time on Peaks.

What makes this property unique

Some of our favourite things about this cottage are its spaciousness and character, the quiet and friendliness of the neighborhood, and the closeness to the ferry, stores and Sandy Beach. Peaks Island itself is just so lovely and peaceful and close to the awesome city of Portland.
