A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY (if interested) and some tourist info-- Rockport has attracted visitors since 1606 when French explorer Samuel de Champlain landed on one of its shores what is now called Whale Cove. Bear Skin Neck- the town center (2 miles away from the cottages). Legend has it that the small peninsula got its name after a bear was caught by the tide and killed in 1700. Along its small roads there are quaint stretches of old fishermen and lobster-men shacks that have gradually been turned into a tourist attraction of restaurants, shops and galleries. Your breathtaking view of the Twin Lighthouses of Thatcher’s Island, named for Anthony Thatcher, an Englishman whose vessel, the Watch and Wait, was wrecked in a ferocious storm near the island in 1635 on its way to Marblehead from Ipswich, was once the first landfall of steamer ships from England heading for Boston and New York. Only he and his wife survived. The island is now a popular kayaking destination and has biweekly boat trips from the town port.
Bear Skin Neck- Bars, Restaurants, Shops, and Art Galleries. Rockport Music’s new Shalin Liu Performance Center, which presents renowned classical and pop artists. The Gloucester Stage Company co-founded by winning playwright Israel Horovitz offers professional casts and plays throughout the summer season. Fast and frequent train service to Boston is also available-
Several large beaches are located in the town limits and still more in neighboring Gloucester. Looking out from your deck there is a small beach called Pony beach that is 5 minute walk. Lots of seaweed. I offer a laminated ‘guest beach parking sticker’ for certain beaches- Pony beach- to the right from your deck. 5 minute walk. 3 kayaks available for your use. Pebble beach -10 minute walk and there is a 'no beach sticker' parking area offered also. No sand sitting when high tide. But you can lie on the rocks. Cape Hedge beach -20 minute walk and/or a 5 min drive with 'beach sticker' parking. No sand sitting when high tide but lots when low tide.. But you can lie on the rocks. * Long Beach- half in Rockport and half in Gloucester- 5 minute drive-the whole parking lot is for guest beach stickers. Lots of sand both high and low tide. Best choice! Please note: do not park where the road signs say ‘resident parking’. Only can park where it says ‘BEACH and resident parking only’ Good Harbor beach- in Gloucester -best beach in New England- 10 minute drive, $35 parking fee. Totally worth it. Has restrooms, showers, and snack bar.

Rustic and rather basic inside, yet comfortable and very clean. Charming for a seaside cottage. The views and access to the ocean are remarkable! Photos from online listing are very accurate.

Your welcome to return anytime! You too were wonderful guests. Thank you for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed it so :-)
House needs updating including worn old furniture and worn straw rug in living area where the most traffic is. Not enough lighting inside house.

Oh dear -I see I must respond.
I'm glad you like the location views- the spectacular sunrises and mesmerizing ocean tides. But truly sorry the inside wasn’t what you expected. I try to be as true as I can in my photos and descriptions and update when there is a change. If you look at each of my inside photos -they show exactly what it looks like- including some New England antique furniture and furnishings. (And to be clear those rugs are made with Rattan -not straw. I imported them from Indonesia myself.) I guess it is a matter of taste. Past guests write how “comfortable” and clean it is, and happily 85% of them are returning ones- most of them for more than 10 years. Still for me -you were great guests and I did give you 5 stars.
We had a great time during our week at Eden Roc. The view is second to none. Sunrises and moon rises were spectacular. The place itself is well laid out and the grounds are beautiful The house was plenty big enough for the two of us. Cutty, the owner, was very friendly and easy to work with. This was our first time at Eden Roc and we expect to return next year.

Thank you for your kind words! You were wonderful guests and you left the place immaculate!! Will reach out in November for next year.....
We have been staying at various locations in the Gloucester/Rockport area for 30 years and this is hands-down the best view we have ever had. The entire front of the house faces the ocean - it feels like you are on the front of a massive boat! There are many places outside to sit and watch the ocean. We had some friends over for a BBQ and cards and found the side patio a great place to hang. The Adirondack chairs sit almost directly on the ocean rocks and at night through the large front windows you can see thousands of stars. The home itself comfortably slept 4 of us. The kitchen was a bit smaller than expected but was fine for a week-long stay. There are three beaches within a ten minute drive and it was well worth it to be a bit more secluded. Cutty’s family has owned the house for decades and she had a ton of history to share about the area and was lovely and responsive throughout our stay.
Pictures don’t do the view justice :)

A piece of heaven
The cottage and its location are a piece (or peace) of heaven. I close my eyes and dream about it when I'm not there. The cottage has lots of character and the owner has thought of everything you might need. Although the cottage is conveniently located near Rockport (walking distance away) and Gloucester, there is NO incentive to leave the property. It is also located in a very lovely area to walk and ride bikes. Lots to do and see in the surrounding area. Highly recommend it

Magical views over the ocean
This cottage offers superb views of the ocean - almost as if you were onboard a ship ! The extra large patio doors of the living room open on a deck and a magnificient view of Thatcher Island and its Twin Lights. Plus, the cottage is only minutes away from either Gloucester and Rockport. It's central location is perfect to visit all the interesting spots on Cape Ann. The interior of the cottage is comfortable and accurately presented in the photos.
If you are looking for a calm and quiet place centrally located, this cottage is for you. We will definitely return and we warmly recommend it.

Absolutely Fabulous !
Our family has been staying at Eden Rock for the better part of the last decade. Prior to staying here we used to stay across the street at the former Rocky Shores cabins. We always admired this property when we stayed at RS, but always thought it was "out of reach". When Rocky Shores went "condo" we finally made contact with the owner of this beautiful property. I wish we had done that sooner!
There are so many positive things to say about this property:
#1 Location: Where ever you are coming from, chances are it is not as beautiful as this place.
#2 Location: Sitting on the sea deck, watching the tide come in, or go out, with the twin lights of Thacher's Island right in front of you is a wonderful thing. Sitting on the sea deck watching a full moon come up between the lighthouses is surreal.
#3 Location: There are beaches for all personalities within a short walk of Eden Rock. If you want an almost private beach experience there is the adjacent cove (loblolly). Pebble beach is not too crowded. Cape Hedge beach is more traditional, and usually has a lifeguard. Beyond Cape Hedge (but still walkable) is Long Beach, where you will find thousands of people who drove 30+ miles, and paid to park at the same beach you just walked to!
#4 Rockport: Less than 1.5 miles from Eden Rock is the beautiful sea side village of Rockport. There are many shops, restaurants, and historical venues to take in. Doing the slightest bit of research will reveal many interesting things to do and see (hint: Sandy Bay Historical Society)
#5 Cape Ann: Even though I can find no real reason to ever leave the confines of the beautiful Eden Rock property, sometimes we go to Gloucester, or even take the train in Rockport to Boston (40 minute trip)
#6 The property owner is there. This is a positive, because the owner is a fantastic person, who wants nothing more than for you to have an enjoyable vacation! If you have a question about anything, she is there. If you want complete privacy, she is completely respectful.
I can not say enough about Eden Rock. My family will continue to take our vacation there for as long as it is available to us. It is the defining moment of our year. We refer to things as "before Rockport, and after Rockport"

A bit of Heaven on Earth
One of the most tranquil, attractive settings for a shore cottage. The view is spectacular from inside or outside.
We are so grateful to have the opportunity to spend a week at this comfortable cottage.

We have rented this house many times over the years. It's a very special place. The house is clean and comfortable and perfect for a family vacation. The view is fantastic and so is the location. There are lots of beaches, nice places to walk, shops and restaurants close by.
I would highly recommend this house.
