Great place to stay. Quiet and a relaxing atmosphere. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. They made sure we were comfortable and did not need anything else other than what was provided in the cabin.
My family and I had a great time. The area is very secluded and my kids loved playing in the creek. The owners are so nice and very helpful. This getaway was exactly what my family needed.

We were looking for a cozy home with cool views for a couple of nights. We found exactly that! This home is sweet and quiet. Plenty of space and everything you could need. My guest and I live in Florida. This was the perfect change of pace.
Everything was as described. A Kureg coffee maker would’ve been nice.
We had fun, only 2 down sides were not enough parking space and coffee maker. Other than that -great !

So glad you had a good time! Sorry about the coffee maker. We will look into that. As far as parking it is noted we have limited space (only for two vehicles...definitely not for a uhaul. We would have tried to help accommodate if we’d have known you were pulling one). Thanks again for
Visiting and staying with us!
Because of truck problems, didn't get to enjoy the cabin as much as we had planned. However, Glenn(the owner) went above and beyond to help solve my truck problem. But, the problem was and still is not solved. We really did enjoy visiting with my sister and the cabin for 2 of our 4 days and plan on a return trip, IF THE TRUCK GETS FIXED.
Much thanks to Glenn and hope to see you again in the future....

Mountain Getaway in Need of a little TLC
The outdoor area was less than we expected. The walk up to the house was uneven, rocky and dangerous for anyone not sure of footing. The tiny deck was slippery with mildew and encroaching tree growth limited view of creek and forest. The creek sound was magical but there is no access to the water. There is very limited outdoor seating. Inside would be terrific but living room furniture felt like it needed a good cleaning. The lighting was dim making it difficult to read anywhere indoors. While antique furniture was cute it was not functional. Promised wifi existed but a little spotty. No recycling bins provided. The bathrooms and washer dryer were fine, beds comfortable. Kitchen adequate but bring your own sharp knives , wine and beer glasses and tupperware. Owners nearby and very friendly.

No cell service on the mountain, does have wifi.
No cell service is kinda what we needed for a couple of days. If you have i-messaged people before, a text will go through, but there is a land line for emergencies.
If you go in winter, and are cold natured, bring an extra space heater. The main heater gets the living area, and there is heat in the master bath, but if it's really cold, the rooms will be cold. We like it, but some might be put off. It was in the high 20's for the first time this year.
We had an issue with the master bath heater, contacted the manager, and had a backup within an hour, so excellent service. Plenty of blankets, comfy couches, nice large king bed. Creek right off the porch. You need an SUV or truck, or car with decent ground clearance to get up there, the road is not 'low slung car friendly', starting with the creek crossing. So it was perfect for us. It has everything you need to 'get away' for a while. We never even turned on the TV. Plenty of access to food and groceries with 10-15 minutes, so we will be renting again, may take the dog and the grandson too.
The location was good for us who only wanted a place to crash after exploring the Blue Ridge Pkwy and the Smoky Mountains. I only have a couple of comments that resulted in three 4 star ratings on my review. It would have been nice to know that the paved road ends a bit before the cabin. It is a pretty rough road in places and it rained consistently on day 2 causing a good-sized creek to form across the road. My daughter's Mini Cooper would have bottomed out so it could be a factor for some. The lockbox is really hard to read in the dark. We got our maglight out in order to see the numbers. A new lockbox would be a really inexpensive fix that would give the new guests an easier checkin. I would say it needs a little updating, and I don't mean a fixer upper by any means! It is quaint, quiet and clean so I would absolutely come back, without hesitation! I would suggest some very inexpensive things like new pillows (I had to put two together to get the feel of one standard pillow - LOL), replace the bathroom sink faucet because I think the screen on the underside isn't right, some new towels would be another really inexpensive update. The furniture is old but that is part of the charm of a mountain cabin so I think that was fine. The master bed was comfortable enough and the temperature in the cabin was perfect. There is a ceiling fan in the living room if you do get a little warm and there is a stand fan in the bedroom if needed. We came back on day 2 to find a bag with fresh biscuits on the front door which was a very sweet surprise. So thoughful! I hope the owners don't misunderstand these comments and think we didn't enjoy our visit because we absolutely did. Sometimes if you don't live in a house, you might not even notice these things and if someone can tell you, you may have even happier guests for a very little outlay. By all means, you should stay here!

Thanks for reviewing our cabin. We do appreciate any and all feedback given as you are correct, when you aren't living in it you don't notice things.
I'm sorry you didn't notice in our description or the directions about driving across the creek onto the gravel road. We do try to grate it many times a year for easier access and we agree the rain does hinder it somewhat.
We are going over your recommendations and will take them seriously into consideration.
Thank you again for your feedback.

We enjoyed this cute place nestled in the woods right next to a stream. The owner brought us fresh bread and brought my kids a gift. It was the perfect place for a weekend getaway and for viewing the foliage.
Pulling up to this property feels like a scene from a movie! A small gravel road surrounded by GORGEOUS overgrown foliage as far as the eye can see! There are several other homes very close by but you can not see them unless you’re walking through the stream. Oh my, and what a breath taking stream it is!!!! Many cascading mini little waterfalls, flowers and berries!! My 9 year old son and I hung a hammock up, relaxed and played in the water nearly every day! A stone walk way leads to the porch and as soon as you open the door you are created by an OVERWHELMING mold smell. It is on everything: the dishes smell like it, the bedding, the towels…it really affected my sons breathing and he coughed his head off day and night. The smell made it hard to enjoy the stay in what would be a cute little cabin! They provided everything you would need for your stay with ample blankets and towels. There is not a big screen tv as the one pictured. Instead there is a very small smart tv hanging on the wall but it gets the job done. Also to be noted there is dust hanging from everything and we found a snake skin hanging from the fireplace stone, going to the attic space. We did not hear from the owners before, during or after our stay which I kind of appreciated but their numbers where clearly listed in the house.
I can't say enough good things about this property or the owners. The owners moved us to another cabin due to the internet being out in ours, thinking of our teenagers. The cabin was amazing!! It was such a wonderful peaceful place. The cabin including every little small thing you could think of. The owner visited and brought us delicious homemade rolls. They were such a sweet couple who enjoyed sharing their piece of heaven. We definitley plan to come again!!
Black Bear Lodge is an adorable, small cabin that is perfect for a weekend stay near Asheville, NC. It is located above a small, running stream that makes the most pleasant, calming sound as you sit on the porch. The living area is large enough for 5-6 guests to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. The bedrooms and bathrooms are small but plenty big enough for a small family. Our only complaint is that the cabin had a moldy, closed-up smell that really bothered one of our kids with allergies. Other than that, we loved our trip!
Right from them getting back to us ASAP.... cause this was a Last minute trip idea.... Our host was so wonderful, stopping bye with fresh baked rolls and Banana Bread!!!! Location was just enough off the beaten trail.... the Cabin had plenty of space, kitchen well equipped , fireplace was a great touch.... and the Jukebox was a nice surprise... I miss the sound of the babbling brook already!!!! We will be back....
Excellent cabin ( nicely furnished and equipped) in idyllic setting. Remote not far to everything
The owners were the best- very helpful and responsive
Really a great spot to get away to- relax and unwind- and be in nature with creek right by cabin
excellent WiFi.
This is a perfect place for a mountain get away! Tucked back in the woods, the cabin overlooks a running stream. Was so peaceful sitting on the porch having coffee in the morning! The cabin is adorable! It has a rustic feel, but has all the amenities you need. This is just the place you imagine when visiting the mountains!
We are Larry n Gay Glenn. We just happen to come across this 13 acre tract at the base of Mt. Pisgah with two cottages on the property. We moved into one and decided to redo the other for others to enjoy! This was in 2000. It is now the Black Bear Creekside Lodge! Please Contact our daughter in law, Denise Glenn for more information and booking. We hope to see ya real soon!
What makes this property unique
Listening to the mountain stream right outside your bedroom door! Seeing the mountain laurel in full bloom as well as other wildflowers. Hearing the woodpeckers and other birds fill the trees surrounding us. Walking around the property....visiting Larry's trout pond. (sorry but not for fishing in) Or just relaxing on the porch. But mostly, enjoying family and friends. Contact us now!
