Tulum is a Maya site may formerly have been known by the name Zama, meaning City of Dawn because it faces the sunrise. Tulum stands on a bluff facing east towards the Caribbean Sea. Tulum is also the Yucatan Mayan word for fence, wall[ or trench, and the walls surrounding the site allowed the Tulum fort to be defended against invasions. Tulum had access to both land and sea trade routes, making it an important trade hub, especially for obsidian. From numerous depictions in murals and other works around the site, Tulum appears to have been an important site for the worship of the Diving or Descending god

A Wonderful Home away from Home

We loved Sid's condo. He has created a very comfortable and elegant place for people. The beds were great, the kitchen was a joy to cook in and the couch and big TV were easy to sink into. He has provided quality items in his condo for travellers to enjoy. We have come to Mexico often and for long periods and this is by far the nicest condo we have stayed in. Sid was very helpful and always responded to our emails promptly. Aldea Zama is well situated in the jungle between the beach and the village. Zama Village is a beautiful complex with a great pool. We biked to the beach often with the bikes that were provided. The bikes were of good quality as well which made the ride easier. We would highly recommend Sid's condo to anyone. Thanks very much Sid.
