Our extended family had the most wonderful time at The Orchard House! We so enjoyed eating home cooked meals around the large table, watching the girls play in the orchard and exploring Acadia/Bar Harbor! The home is clean, well cared for, and the owner is delightful!

Beautiful spacious property. Owner very helpful and accessible. House very conveniently located to both sides of Island. Lots of room inside for privacy and group get togethers. Loved the chickens and ducks and the Chipmunks and the deer just outside. Second visit to this property.

Wonderful House and Host!

My husband and two of our adult children with three grandchildren had a wonderful stay at the Orchard House. Tricia was a wonderful host who answered any questions I had before and during the trip. The house was large, bright and clean. We loved our stay and it is so close to Acadia, downtown Bar Harbor and some great places to eat. Our grandkids loved watching the ducks and chickens and walking around the yard. Tricia has thought of all the details, big and little and there was nothing we wished we had! We would 100% recommend this house!!!

If I could give 10 stars, I would! The house was perfect for our family of 13, ages 9 to 74. Spacious, lots of window light, and beautifully furnished. The wall decor was fascinating and I kept seeing new things every day. Trish, the owner, is absolutely lovely and so gracious. She would have done anything for us, but we couldn't think of a thing we needed! She had already covered every little detail. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners at the house and couldn't have asked for a lovelier kitchen. It was very well stocked with every utensil and appliance we needed. We took a brief drive to the Hannaford Supermarket for supplies. There was a smaller dining area for the 6 adults, and a table in the great room for the kids to eat and play games. Although it was only a few miles from downtown Bar Harbor, the house itself was in a rural setting. There was an old apple orchard in the back and a beautiful deck to sit and enjoy it. There were chickens and ducks and deer wandering around and that never got old. We took several walks down to Hull's Cove, where the kids had fun hunting for treasures... shells,crabs,etc.. There was a coffee shop and a restaurant at the end of the driveway. Some of the highlights of our trip were Northeast Harbor, Bass Harbor Head Light, Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole, Asticou Terraces, Thuya Gardens, Asticou Azelea Garden, Wonderland Trail, Land Bridge to Bar Island, downtown Bar Harbor shops, and a day trip to Campobello Island in NB.

Nice, roomy, clean, and well-stocked house! Good Wi-Fi. Listing represents the property well, except for the 3rd floor bedroom – no access to the little patio BUT there is a regular double bed up there rather than a futon, which was a nice surprise. 21-year old was very comfortable up there. All the bedroom windows face east, and there is a rooster on the property, so may not be ideal for light sleepers who want to sleep in. I was concerned about the lack of air-conditioning, but it was fine. When the high was in the upper 70s, the house was comfortable. When the high was 85, the house was a bit uncomfortable for a few hours, but not unbearable, and became comfortable after the sun went down. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms and several box fans (provided) helped a lot with cooling.Great location! Easy walk to catch the Island Explorer bus or go to 2-3 restaurants nearby. We had a nice meal at Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes and took the bus to the Village Green multiple times. Walking (or running) to the visitors center and park was doable but involved a short but busy stretch with no sidewalk. One member of our group did this twice to run on the carriage roads. One of our most enjoyable meals was a quick jaunt to Atlantic Brewing and Mainely Meats BBQ on Knox Rd. The 18- and 19-year olds in our group played several rounds of mini-golf at Pirates Cove just up the road. Super easy to get into the park and to other parts of MDI by car from here!

Wonderful home base for a week exploring Acadia and Mt Desert Island as a family reunion

What a nice place to stay. All the items we needed, large and small. We played cards at night at the big table, easily cooked meals, had easy access to Acadia, Bar Harbor and other fun places. Beds and bathrooms were great. Spacious, attractive, comfortable, clean, owners quick to respond.

Maine stay

Our family enjoyed the house with a large yard and deck. The house provides great sleeping options and bathrooms. Every area of the house was wonderfully decorated. The owner was lovely and if needed she was there to help us with any questions or hiccups. Best yet, the location to the park and downtown Bar Harbor, was perfect.

Fabulous!

The house was perfect. It was spacious and clean. They even provided Q-tips and makeup wipes! The location was only 1-mile to the visitor center and about 3-miles to Bar Harbor. The neighbor's chickens and ducks were an added bonus, as were the deer & fawns found wondering the yard.

The back yard is nice the ducks and chickens that passed through were very entertaining. It is close to Arcadia and down the street is a restaurant on the water. Host is spectacular

MAINE - THE BEAUTIFUL

This property is a great house for 5 couples to stay in when it is cool outside. The back patio is relaxing in the shade in the evening. If you want to shuttle into town, the Island Shuttle picks you up at the end of Crooked Rd, just a short walk. The neighbors are close, but never bothered us and were friendly. I would stay there again to go to Bar Harbor, and stay at the outskirts of town.

Great house. Very well equipped. We were 6 adults and 4 children 3 and under. There were lots of things at the house, including pack and plays , that helped us to avoid bringing extra things. Lots of lovely bedrooms. Wonderful backyard. It was a perfect week.

Wondeful stay!

This house is indeed spacious and comfortable! You really feel like you're in a home. Plenty of parking (we had a minivan, two pickup trucks, and a sedan), and the yard and garden are beautiful. We very much enjoyed seeing the neighbor's ducks do their daily commute through the yard to a patch of vegetation to dine on. The house is perfectly located near enough Bar Harbor and Acadia to have everything be accessible while still having a private quiet setting. Patricia was a wonderful, friendly, and accomodating host. We would definitly recommend this property to anyone looking to vacation in Bar Harbor.

Location and Space!

Orchard House is light and bright. It has the warm cozy feel of a home with plenty of space to spread out (more than our family of 6 needed). The location next to Acadia’s visitor’s center is hard to beat especially when the shuttles are running. Trish was gracious and kind. We can’t wait to go back.

Wonderful

Our extended family of 11 had a wonderful time staying at Orchard House. The grandchildren 1-5 yrs old loved playing outside in the meadow and with the collection of inside toys. There was plenty of space for everyone. The house was close to everything and yet in a quiet farm like setting. With plenty of windows in each room the air circulation and lighting were wonderful. The eclectic collection of artwork was a huge bonus. Highly recommended!

Bar Harbor Family stay

We felt comfortable with the location. Perfect location to get around Bar Harbor and use of free shuttles. Had a great time hiking, biking, cruising, and exploring the downtown. Lots of Ice Cream! The only issue that we want to bring up to the owner attention, is that they may want to clean the guest bathroom a bit better as there is additional grime around the bathtub and the appearance of a mushroom.

Family Time

This is the second time staying at this property. The home is beautiful but requires updates. The appliances in the kitchen need to be updated, especially the oven and range top. The bed I slept in had a big dip in the center. One of the sofa's in the living room has no support left, needs to be replaced. The host was very nice and helpful. Saw a little to much of her. I don't think she was really comfortable with us not sure why, we treated her home with respect. It is a great location and it was plenty of room for my entire family.

Fantastic Location

My wife and I along with two other couples stayed at the Orchard House for five days and enjoyed every minute of it. The house is in a great location close to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and local restaurants. The house is well equipped with all the necessitates and is very comfortable. Besides the great location we liked having three full bathrooms so each couple cold have their own. Tricia was great to work with both before and after our stay. She was very responsive to all my questions and made us feel very comfortable. I highly recommend the Orchard House as a go to location for a stay when visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

About the host

Hosted by Owner Patricia Ropp

Host profile image
The Orchard House, our home, began as a small photographers cottage down on the shore in Hulls Cove. Some time around the early 1900's the cottage was moved up to the orchard.

It escaped the Great Fire of Bar Harbor in 1947 but burned to the ground exactly 50 years later in 1997. We rebuilt the house, bigger this time because our family was growing and now the house's story has seen another change.

We look forward to welcoming guests to the Orchard House and for you to enjoy the house and its surroundings and become part of its story too.
