Thank you for the positive review. It was a pleasure hosting you and your family.
This property exceeded my family's expectations! It was exceptionally clean and very quiet place to relax and enjoy with family. The host Melissa was excellent in answering all our questions quickly. Absolutely awesome place!!!!
We had a wonderful stay. The property exceeded our expectations. There was plenty of room for the family to be together and to have some quiet time when needed. The lake was great for swimming and catching frogs. Our hostess was easy to communicate with and cared about our comfort. We can't wait to stay again next year.
The home was nicely appointed and ready for our visit. Gorgeous views from all decks and swimming platform. Only surprise was the septic system's inability to accept toilet paper.
We had a great visit.

We are sorry to hear you were surprised with the rules on using the septic system. It is common practice in older homes of this area to avoid flushing toilet paper to prevent system backups. I will add more detail on this in our listing for future guests. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay overall.
Beautiful property, well equipped, clean and well maintained. Very comfortable for all 8 of us. Only minor issues with water pressure and the fact that we could not flush paper products of any kind.
We had a wonderful time. House was amazing The property was very well kept and the views were gorgeous. We found the location great. Not far from anything. The hosts were so responsive. Great suggestions on day trips and restaurants. We would love to come back here in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the lake house. We had fun swimming off the dock and brought some paddle boards that we enjoyed on the lake. The house was very clean and the renovated kitchen/main floor is totally gorgeous. We found the kitchen had everything we needed and it was much appreciated that there were a few staples like s&p, oil and tea. Thank you for sharing your lovely house with us!
Your home is beautiful! The view on to the lake is stunning,There are lots of quiet areas to relax and read a book. My daughter, husband abd grandson took a lovely paddle around the lake. It is very quiet, which was great. We saw a few bunny rabbits jumping around the yard. The only negative thing was not beng able to flush toilet paper down the toilet. My very independant 3 year old grandson was on the trip with us and keeping him from not flushing the paper down the toilet was a chore.

We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your visit! As soon as bookings are made, we provide a welcome guide with house rules that includes our preference to keep toilet paper out of the septic system. This gives our guests the opportunity to cancel without penalty if they disagree with any of the rules.
Beautiful house on a great lake in an area surrounded by natural beauty.
We were in NS for a wedding and 8 family members (6 adults and two kids) stayed in the house. The house was super spacious (inside and out), secluded and well stocked/maintained. The water pressure was really good for showers, the dry sauna was a nice touch and there is plenty of space on the property. Though it rained many days, we were still able to enjoy the sunset over the water in front of a campfire.
Melissa (our host) was super responsive for a few inquiries.
There is plenty of great hikes in the area and only 15 min from Peggy's Cove which was nice.
Highly recommend this property.
The lake was very shallow and the heavy iron content of the water meant we couldn't see through to the bottom. this is really about esthetics.
We were surprised to read the instructions about the septic system...it is so delicate that it cannot digest even toilet paper. The instructions were to never flush used toilet paper, rather place it in the garbage container next to the toilet. Very strange.

We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with the property. Unfortunately, all of the lakes in this area have dark colored water but we can understand how that can be off-putting for some people who aren't used to that. The lake is 6-8 feet deep which we find is plenty of water for swimming and canoeing but not good for motor boats. I will put additional information regarding this on our listing to warn future guests. It is also typical for older homes in this area to avoid flushing toilet paper in order to prevent system back ups. I will also make additional notes on this for future guests. Thank you for your feedback.
About the host
Hosted by Melissa Morash
Melissa grew up in the nearby village of McGrath's Cove. She and her husband, Scott, purchased the home in Big Lake to be closer to family and friends. Melissa's family has a special connection to this property that goes as far back to when it was built in the mid-90's.
Why they chose this property
This is a peaceful neighborhood that is close to the natural wonder of Peggy's Cove. On windy days when the Ocean is not as inviting, Big Lake offers a sanctuary that allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
What makes this property unique
Big Lake is a private sanctuary surrounded by nature. For swimmers, the warm lake waters extend the swimming season into the months when the Ocean water is still too cold. The lake will also often freeze in Winter to offer skating.
