We really enjoyed our stay, it’s very close to town and overlooks Donner. My only negative is the e pillows on the bed are not very comfortable, so bring your own if you can.
The veiw of Lake Donner and the surrounding mountains is wonderful. You can see the train across the lake. Comfortable house with a nice open combined kitchen and living room area. You can see and hear I80 in the front of the house.
This cabin was great! Clean and well stocked. My kids loved playing in the snow outside while I relaxed while taking in the incredible view. I was concerned about the proximity to the freeway but with the way the cabin is situated you barely notice it. We plan to return.

Not the cleanest but great views and close to Boresl shredding.
I already prepared a lengthy review with quite a number of problems listed.

Hi Karen, we're so glad you enjoyed the wonderful location, but we're sorry the cleanliness of the home fell short of expectations. We passed your comments on to the homeowner who would like to share the following: We conducted an inspection of the property before your check-in and found it to be clean and ready for your stay. Your comments will be shared with our cleaning team to ensure continued awareness and attention to detail. Thank you for choosing to stay with us.
This property has a lovely large entertaining space for a family to gather and enjoy views of Donner lake and the surrounding mountains. The kitchen was well equipped with pots for cooking. The property worked well for our dog who is a member of the family, and enjoyed laying in front of the wood stove. The host was very responsive. Thank you for hosting us!
We enjoyed our stay at this Truckee home near Donner Lake. Views are incredible. Great open floor plan made relaxing, playing card games, and cooking with the family easy. We would definitely come again.
But do bring slippers! the tile floors are cold. (Heated floors only in the bathrooms)
The house was nice enough, clean and nice view of Donner Lake. However, the noise from the freeway was extremely loud and prevented sleep. During the day it wasn’t so noticeable given ambient noise from tv etc but once retiring for the evening, it was almost impossible to get to sleep.
The property is very clean and nicely updated high-end kitchen and bathrooms. Extremely quiet although there is little freeway noise. That didn't bother us when we were sleeping. One issue is that a kitchen gas stove knob is missing . I hope property manager knows it.

The house was nice inside. Kitchen and bathrooms are newly updated. The view is amazing! The traffic noise was horrible. You could not open the windows because it was so loud. The blinds in the bedroom upstairs are broken. It felt a little uncomfortable in the bathroom downstairs because there was a window with no blinds.

Hi Eileen, we're so glad you enjoyed this home overall but sorry that your stay fell short in certain areas. After going over your review, the homeowner would like to share the following:
-I apologize for the broken blinds, unfortunately, previous guests have misused them, I was notified by the cleaning crew to repair them. The blinds are working properly and shouldn't be a concern for future guests
-I keep the large glass windows closed, there are two portable air conditioners and ceiling fans in the main living room to help with air circulation and added comfort
-While I cannot control external factors like traffic noise, I'm sorry this impacted your stay
-I appreciate you staying with us and thank you for your feedback.

Marvelous Home, Amazing Views and Relaxing Stay
This is our second stay at this gorgeous home overlooking Donner Lake. The home is situated minutes from Truckee where there are wonderful restaurants, groceries stores and fun shopping. The 'Great Room' is huge with panoramic views of Donner Lake and the mountains. The Primary Suite is also huge with the same views. LOVE the kitchen - the kitchen of my dreams with granite countertops, a big center island, every type of appliance you could wish for, lots of pots, pans, dishware, etc. Eat in or take out and enjoy the view. There are two gas burning fireplaces (upstairs and downstairs) that warm up the home incredibly well. It was in the 20's our whole stay. We were toasty warm. Need one of these! Nice to have a bathroom on the main floor that can be used by the second bedroom. The third bedroom is downstairs next to the Primary Suite. The home comes with a washer and dryer. Paul is a fantastic host! He is responsive, friendly and welcoming. We'll be back next winter!

Road noise
While the property is roomy with a fantastic view of Donner lake , its proximity to the highway makes it extremely noisy at all times . Not the cleanest either.Very strange there aren’t any outdoor decks. As we were there in winter this was ok but I would never rent in summer without outdoor space to enjoy . Also , The person in the downstairs 2nd bedroom has to run up and down steep stairs to bathroom or walk through the master to access . Very inconvenient .
We chose this property because of the gorgeous view of Donner Lake. Unfortunately, it was too hot to keep the shades open for most of our stay so we really couldn't enjoy it. The indoor temperature reached 88 degrees one day and was pretty unbearably hot. The owner suggested keeping screens open at night but we didn't feel particularly safe to do that. Fortunately, we found some fans we could use but it was brutally hot and there is no outdoor space to use in the height of day. I would not recommend bringing anyone sensitive to heat to this house. Also, we experienced a power outage for a few hours and therefore couldn't use fans. The kitchen was quite nice, though the floors could've used a cleaning. There were also no clean sponges available.

Hi Rachel, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. The weather was unseasonably hot during your stay, and when you raised this issue with the homeowner, they let you know the most effective way to cool down the cabin. While we apologize that you were uncomfortable opening the windows overnight, the homeowner did everything they could to ensure you had a comfortable stay, but cannot control the weather. We've passed along your feedback about cleanliness, and appreciate this feedback. We do all we can to make it the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.
We had the greatest time at this cabin. The view alone is worthy of the cost to rent. You could not ask for a more picturesque place to vacation! With that being said, there were a few issues we ran into. The highway runs right in front of the cabin. It is located several feet lower, but it is quite visible and quite noisy at times. Still worth the rent in my opinion, but it would have been good to know that beforehand. Secondly, the cleaning left something to be desired. It wasn’t terrible but when you pay a cleaning fee, it is pretty frustrating. There were dead bugs on the floor, food stuck to the floor, a coffee cup full of days old coffee in the microwave (which means obviously the microwave wasn’t cleaned), and a pretty gross toilet seat in the upstairs bathroom. It definitely made us question how much “cleaning” really took place before our arrival. Finally, the dishwasher is on its last leg. At one point it “finished” with soap and water at the bottom and at another point it ran and ran all day. It only got hot sometimes and the soap didn’t get released much of the time. Definitely needs to be upgraded. Overall, we would definitely come back but there are a few improvements that need to be made!
My family and I greatly enjoyed staying at this property. Although you can hear the sounds of the freeway, it didn’t bother us at all. We were warned that the picture windows would get the afternoon sun would warm up the place, so we made sure all the heaters were off before we left the house. The view of the lake was spectacular. The newly renovated kitchen and bathrooms were awesome! I was so excited to have heated floors. They accept dogs, but there is a slight fee. One of the bedrooms bed (queen) was extremely squeaky and kept my son up all night. My primary bed was awesome. The only complaint/concern was the cleanliness of the place. The refrigerator was dirty. The countertop was sticky, there were bugs on the window sills, the only carpet in the stairs needs to be replaced. I wanted to clean things up and ran out of the only paper towel roll that was available. Other than that, it was a fabulous stay! Close to town, grocery shopping, playing in the snow, great coffee at Wild Cherries!

Meh.
The view and location were both great, but the house itself could use some creature comforts to make it a place you want to stay in: 1) 409 or cleaning wipes and washcloths in the kitchen to wipe off counter tops. 2) more paper towels because we had to use so many to wipe down counters. 3) Updated bed linens. They looked really old and we questioned whether they were clean. And the pillows were yellow. 4) Hooks on backs of doors, especially the bathrooms! 5) Side tables and lamps in the bedrooms. 6) CLEAN OUT and organize the closets and kitchen drawers. All closets had misc. linens and pillows laying on the floor - gross, is that where our bed linens came from?! And kitchen drawers needed a good cleaning and some organizers. 7) We lacked a cookie sheet and an adequate amount of silverware. 8) Area rug and coffee table in the living room 9) We couldn't find ANY extra towels and after a wild goose chase, found them in the dryer.
The updated kitchen was quite lovely though, and tile floors throughout took away the stress of spills or tracking in dirt (although we were careful not to do either, obviously).

Hi Jordan, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent stay at the cabin. The homeowner let us know that dish towels are kept in a drawer in the kitchen and that counter cleaner can be found under the sink. Linens are stored in the closets, which also have the same clean tile flooring as the rest of the cabin. The owner has asked their cleaning service not to leave towels in the dryer for upcoming reservations and reorganized the kitchen utensils. While the decor wasn't to your taste, the owner has a long history of providing 5-star stays in the cabin, and we are looking forward to helping them continue to do so. Best, the Evolve Team

Beautiful view.. But that's it.
First up I have to say the owner Paul was nice and accommodating, but the house had nothing else going on for it other than the view which is great! The cabin itself is pretty old & tired. We came to a cold cold house and it has some different sort of radiant heating from the ceiling which took forever to heat up the place. Paul suggested we start up the fireplace and that helped heat the main living area but the downstairs was very unpredictable temperature wise. We would wake up to a cold room in the middle of the night.. And the temp just wouldn't adjust fast enough.
Additionally when we got to the house, we opened the dishwasher to find dishes that were covered in fungus/mold that was likely weeks old. That was disgusting and a health hazard for sure.
The utensils at the cabin are OLD.. I did read that in other reviews but figured it couldn't be that bad. They're really pretty bad!
Paul was very helpful, but I will not be renting this cabin again. I did not think it was worth what we paid for the quality of cabin. While we enjoyed the view at the cabin, that's about it. So be forewarned if you rent!

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are sorry to hear that there were some issues when you first checked in, but the owner has agreed to refund your cleaning fee since the dishwasher had not been started by the cleaning crew. The owner has taken your feedback to heart; a new cleaning crew has been hired and he will be upgrading a lot of the supplies in the house like the pots and pans. Good luck in your future travels! ~ The Evolve Team
