The property is clean and as advertised. The neighborhood is not attractive. The bed is hard. The refrigerator and kitchen was great! The walk to the harbor is as described. The owners live in the house behind the rental. There is an upstairs rental. I can see how this place gets complaints of being noisy, but for our stay all was quiet. It was commensurate with the rate, let's face it Kona is expensive!
The appartment is small but very cozy. It was clean and equipped with the necessary utensils. Really close to the ocean and the center of Kailua-Kona. We also enjoyed sitting by the table outside while having breakfast or in the evening. Marc is a really friendly host and everything went well.
Nestled in the hillside, a few blocks from Ali'i Dr, the Surf Hideaway is a good base from which to explore the area. The owners are super friendly and offer all sorts of water sports equipment to their guests. But if you're looking for luxurious lodging, this place would probably miss the mark for you. The bed could use replacing, but the linens were fresh & clean. The door does have a functioning lock so the review stating otherwise is no longer accurate. There was no AC, but I wasn't expecting that given this is Hawaii and cooling tropical breezes prevail. The kitchen was well equipped however, you might find a creepy crawler but, again, this is a tropical island where such things are not uncommon. Personally I prefer a place where toxic pesticides are not overly used. Just make sure to wash dishes prior to use and don't leave open containers of food out (there's a good sized refrigerator to store everything). All in all, it was a good stay but maybe best suited for younger people working with a tight budget, or older folks looking for an adventure.
Super clean, close to stores, a country atmosphere in town.

No lights for entry, people partying upstairs very loud all night. Just a crappy little make shift garage. Worst place I have ever rented. So glad only for one night. Door doesn't lock so stayed up all night.
Owners were welcoming and allowed us to drop a few things off before actual check in time. We only stayed one night. Will stay there again next time we visit Big Island. Great location and
This was a perfect place to crash when we arrived before we set off for the east side of the island. Comfy bed and super close to the airport and town.

This is likely the best bang-for-buck in all of Kona! The apartment is clean, comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with essentials. Awesome spot, host is super accommodating, would highly recommend.
If you know Kona, it is definately local style (a good thing). It is great for 1 or 2 guest who want to do their thing in the village. Walking distance to all thats needed for those who want to stay young with the 10,000 steps per day. Not so much for the elderly who need to drive everywhere. I would definitely stay here again.
Host makes it comfortably and easy to stay. Super close to everything in town. I enjoyed the amenities the communal areas were cool. I was going to stay until the next day but my flight got bumped up earlier so left the same night.
