Horsin’ Around is a brand-new log cabin at the top of Leatherwood Mountains—perfect for horse lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. This 2-bedroom retreat features a 2-stall barn with 12'x14' pens and separate paddocks (accommodates up to 4 horses), located just steps from the Daniel Boone trailhead. Ride directly onto the Leatherwood trail system and return to your private barn and cozy cabin.

Inside, unwind in front of the gas log fireplace while enjoying Blue Ridge views through the great room’s wall of windows. The master suite offers an air tub and a window seat overlooking the mountains, while the loft includes a 55" TV and Blu-ray player—ideal for movie nights or catching the game. The covered porch features overlook chairs for taking in unforgettable sunsets.

Please note: Leatherwood’s roads are narrow and steep. Only trailers 20 ft or shorter are recommended. Horsin’ Around has space for a 16 ft gooseneck to turn near the barn; longer rigs are not advised. Pens can be temporarily folded to allow more turning space.

This home is located in the 4000 acre, Leatherwood Mountain Resort in Ferguson, NC. Our guests are invited to enjoy our Horseback Riding program where you can experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains pristine wilderness by Horseback (reservation required). You will have access to miles of hiking trails, mountain streams, stocked fishing pond, community swimming pool, play ground and tennis courts, creek tubing (seasonal), on-site restaurant with active live music & event calendar (guest advised to check hours when planning meals).

Leatherwood Mountains has surveillance or recording devices on the property. Our neighborhood is very safe and our property very secluded. For added peace of mind, we have security cameras by the gated entrance and common areas. Individual properties may also have cameras on the EXTERIOR of homes. Please be assured they are not directed at private areas, hot tub porches etc.

Beautiful view! The home is well taken care of, but felt comfortable and relaxing to have kids and a pet. The customer service was excellent as well! We had one issue that was resolved within an hour and didn't impact our vacation at all. There is no cell service at the cabin itself, but there was good wifi. We enjoyed not having service and utilized the time to truly check out of real life and enjoy spending time together. 10/10 would recommend!

Amazing cabin

Loved our stay! Everything from easy check in while have afew drink and browsing the gift shop to all the houses around. Then to the cabin which was stunning with incredible views. Would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful cabin

The cabin was beautiful. The finishes in the cabin are very nice, and the view is outstanding! Such a relaxing get away for our family. We absolutely loved the community, and took advantage of the horse rides for our young son. We will absolutely be coming back.

Super private stay high on the mountain

We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and boy did we find it. Yes: cell reception is spotty - but my wife and I were able to use this opportunity to completely check out from our work and just enjoy the simple mountain life. Resort staff are super friendly and we loved every moment of our experience

The perfect getaway!

We had the most amazing weekend. Everything was clean and the views were awesome at the cabin. We loved bringing our dog too! The trails were easily accessible and the hot tub was a nice activity to have too. We even had snow on our last day! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. Love all of the horse decor / theme. Thanks for an awesome stay!

Living the Simple Life Mountain Style

Beautiful property secluded in the mountains from the hustle and bustle of life demands. Responsive property manager, Abbie, who made us feel right at home. The staff at Leatherwood were friendly and very welcoming. Highly recommend this VRBO and thoroughly enjoyed the horse theme house :).

Out of the way!

This is a very nice location but keep in mind it is in the middle of nowhere. 1 hour from Blowing Rock. No restaurants around. The one on site is only open Friday nights during the winter. So pack everything you need. Is a great place for horses and riding.

It was fun

It was pretty private house, I really enjoyed the trip there, my wife did not it was about 50 min from Boone and blowing rock. There were a lot of dead bugs everywhere which I understand however it did bother my wife. Overall it was great

Perfection

My husband and I had the best time at this cabin in the mountains. It exceed our expectations . The view from the living room was amazing. The home was super clean and cozy, was tucked away providing peaceful privacy, had all the things we could need to cook our meals, and the hot tub was fabulous. I did not want to leave. It was just so relaxing and romantic. We got home today and it is one of the first times I have returned from a trip and thought “it’s good to be home”. I want to go back to the cabin!

Weekend getaway

This location was absolutely amazing. The view was spectacular! The weather did not cooperate and it rained the whole time so that put a little damper on our activities. I would absolutely stay here again. The one issue we had was getting the information to properly check in. I never received the email so that was a little confusing but the office staff was wonderful and very helpful. Be warned there is no cell service in this area you must be connected to the wifi the host provides!

Stunning but remote

We spent more time in the car getting to places than i would like. I am mildly disabled so hiking the trails on the mountain was difficult. Driving to towns and attractions seemed to take forever, often on gravel roads that were poorly posted. We should have booked something closer to Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk but i would hate to loose that view from the house. Lack of cell phone reception was problematic.
