Beautiful quiet property in the woods.

Enjoyed our stay in the quiet woods. Liked the cabin very much. It was furnished nicely with everything one needs. I would certainly go back again. My only complaint would be about the bath tub because of my age and ability to get into a tall deep tub. Loved the woods and seeing deer!

Nice but run down

Nice retreat in the woods. Bring bug spray! The place is a bit run down and we found no trails on the property. Still, it was a nice, quiet place.

I'm glad that you agree the cabin is a nice, quiet place to stay. I am sorry that you did not enjoy all of your stay. I am confused about the comment about the cabin being rundown? The cabin has all been updated with all tile floors, solid cherry cabinets and stainless steel appliances? The bathroom was just redone this year with a new toilet and sink? If you are referring to all the family antiques in the cabin then you are mistaken. In regards to trails, I mention in the description there is hiking and in order to hike you do not need trails. The woods are very open on the forest floor which allows you to walk where ever you like. The only reason I think that you would give us a review of 3 stars is that I require insurance to cover damage from renters and you asked if this could be waived, which I won't consider, due to the antiques in the house.

Cute and cozy place

We really enjoyed our stay here. The grounds were beautiful. The patio is a great place to relax -it's nice to have a campfire at night. It was a good location- secluded, but not too far from the state park. The kids bedroom is really beautiful and even had a piano! The one thing that was frustrating was that there were no screens in the windows in the family room area, so you couldn't open the windows in the common area. Also, there was no wifi. Overall, a nice relaxing vacation spot.

Beautiful grounds

This is a beautiful place to stay, quiet, and we enjoyed the wildlife and beauty of the trees and flowers.A few things would help make the stay a little nicer. We enjoy a big breakfast but there weren't any bowls in the cottage to mix pancakes or eggs. Also, there weren't any dish towels (had to run to Meijer). The claw foot tub is very cool but not so easy to get in and out of especially with the step right under it and nothing to grab on to. More towels would be great, only two hand towels and washcloths, 3 bath towels so I was washing every day.ANTS, and spider webs, oh my! I understand in the middle of woods you are bound to have black ants but we killed sooo many, my husband looked in the laundry room and found a spray can that took care of part of spraying around the house.Hope this helps for the future guests.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the beauty of the trees and flowers, and the local wildlife — it’s wonderful to know the natural surroundings made your stay relaxing. I truly appreciate your feedback and would love to clarify a few things that may help for any future guests. Dish towels are provided in the cottage and are stored in the wardrobe by the kitchen with any extra linens, please reach out next time and we will assist you. I’m sorry they weren’t easily found during your stay. I also appreciate the suggestion about mixing bowls and will be adding some to the kitchen supplies to better accommodate guests who enjoy cooking. Regarding towels, we set out linens based on the number of guests on the reservation, but we’re always happy to provide more upon request. I also wanted to mention that there is a support rail installed at the end of the clawfoot tub for added safety when getting in and out. Lastly, being in a wooded environment, we do take regular steps to manage seasonal pests, but I appreciate you bringing the issue of ants to my attention. I’ll be sure to reinforce preventative measures to minimize any future inconvenience.

Quaint & cozy

My family of 5 had a wonderful time on our vacation. The cottage was well maintained. We especially liked the light on the bathroom faucet. As other reviews mentioned, screens on the windows would've been nice to allow the fresh air to flow through. I wish I had known to bring the following: -Outdoor chairs. Despite the photo, there were no cushions on the patio chairs. The steel frames were uncomfortable. -Casserole dish. There are no casserole dishes or big mixing bowls. Overall, my family had a great holiday weekend. We were close to downtown Ludington and Lake Michigan. My 5-year old even asked, "Next time can we stay 6 days instead of 5?" He didn't want to leave. We would stay here again.

Absolutely worth it!

My family of 4 recently stayed at this property over the holiday weekend. I was looking for a rustic cottage in the woods and boy did this place deliver! It was even better than I imagined. It was clean, nicely decorated (especially for a rustic cabin), the property was absolutely beautiful and the cabin had everything we needed. All we had to do was bring our personal things and food. The location was perfect. It seemed like we were in the middle of nowhere when at the cabin and yet we only had a quick drive to be right in the middle of Ludington or at the beach. The communication with the owner was great and extremely timely. We loved it and would recommend to everyone to stay here.

This cozy cottage was great!

We loved the fact that the cottage was on plenty of beautiful, peaceful land for hiking, but close enough (10 minute drive) to Ludington for restaurants & beaches. It was completely equipped with all the amenities in case you wanted to stay in to make meals & was just down the street from a fresh market with all of Michigan's seasonal goodies. We had a great time (2 parents, 2 grandparents & two boys age 10 & 6) & would recommend staying here to anyone!

Beautiful land and comfortable cabin for peace and quiet

We had a great family reunion here and most loved the gorgeous dense forests and meadows on all that beautiful acreage. We took walks or just sat and listened to the quiet of nature with forest animals making their occasional appearances. It is also very convenient to all the services and shopping in Ludington, many small lakes and the Lake Michigan beaches. We loved the new Maker Space in Ludington, a place to go work on projects, learn new crafts or just build things under the guidance of experts. The cabin was clean, comfortable and well-furnished, though small for the 5 adults we had staying there. It would be great for a family with some smaller bodies in the mix. The only things on our wish list would be good reading lights in the main living area, a reliable source for TV channels, and screens on the windows in the living/dining room so we could open those windows on the hots days/nights we had. We'd certainly recommend it for others, and our relatives in the area were happy to know about such a nice place for their guests in the future.

Peaceful and kid friendly!

Usually vacationing with small children can't be described as peaceful, but we all felt that this vacation was! Two families with three children ranging from 1-4 fairly comfortably enjoyed this property for four nights. The highlights for us were the washer and dryer, air conditioner, modern and clean kitchen, a safe place for kids to be outside, and the peaceful atmosphere. Even though the temperature outside wasn't so hot, having the air conditioner really cooled down the place comfortably and quickly in the afternoons. Having the washer and dryer available was really nice when we ran though laundry quicker than we planned, often the case with little ones. We cooked all our meals at the house and were pleased with the clean and fully adequate kitchen. Counter space was enough for our needs and the dishwasher was a great plus! Mostly we all appreciated that the house was in so private and quiet a location. It's set back on a nice long driveway from an already quiet dirt road. Listening to the wind in the trees was lovely, and not having to worry that our kids would be hit by a car the moment they stepped foot from the door was wonderful. The place was clean and tidy and also not so cluttery that we had to move many things from our busy one year old. Luddington wasn't far away by car (less than ten minutes) but mostly we enjoyed the Manistee state forest beach, a good twenty minutes north.

Cozy, clean and everything we needed

We had a great time! My husband, myself and 4 grown kids spent 4 nights. The house was very cozy and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was a couch and 2 chairs so we were a little short for seats while playing games in the evening. We enjoyed meteor showers from the patio. And during the day we traveled 8 minutes to the ludington state park for a great beach and hiking. we would recommend to others

Clean, fresh and comfortable

Stayed here for 4 nights. We had 3 generations- my husband and I, our 3 adult children and our 3 young grandchildren- ages 9, 6 and 2. (We got a special ok from owner for the 8th person, the almost 2 year old). Sleeping worked perfect with adding a pack and play. The beds were VERY comfortable. We are city people, so I wasn't sure about the 80 acres of woods, but it was fine. It is secluded, but a short drive (less than a minute) from the road. One evening we had the pleasure of 3 deer coming in the distance to graze on the lawn. Another thing I wasn't sure of was the kitchen, from the pictures not sure if it was small, but again, just right. We brought easy to fix food, some cooked before leaving home, but it really wasn't necessary, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook. It was lacking a microwave, but the owner graciously agreed to buy the one we purchased while there, so there is a microwave. We were very happy the cottage had air conditioning on the 85 plus degree days we had. I would highly recommend this cottage. It was perfect for our needs and will be a place we come back to.

Great, Simple Getaway

Stayed here for a long summer weekend, and it was just what we needed. In previous years we'd had a tradition of 2 couples sharing a campsite - but with a new baby each that was no longer an option! This cute cottage was just what we needed - 2 bedrooms, each with room for a pack n play for a baby (4 months & 7 months); a great sized common space for toys & babies; air conditioning; washer & dryer; coffee pot for red-eyed parents! Weather was rainy, so we didn't spend as much time on the porch as we might have, though we did make use of the grill twice. LOTS of privacy; lovely trees. We already knew the area, but there was lots of maps and information about local beaches that would be super helpful to those that haven't grown up camping at Ludington every summer. :) Great communication with the owner; and flexibility on their part when we made a mistake. Great value!
