About this property

Log Cabin at the Goat Sanctuary, Healing for Humans and Animals

The Sanctuary Overlook Cabin is the perfect spot, on 7 private acres, for both a peaceful escape, or a fun-filled stay. The house is well- equipped with everything you need for a memorable visit w/ friends & family (game room, art materials, yoga mats, outdoor games, books, a fire pit, sleds, hot tub and more)

The porch is the perfect place to watch our rescued goats, part of the Frederick Goat Sanctuary, in the field below or spot wildlife in the fruit orchard. Come heal with animals & nature.

The space
When you drive onto the property you will notice a fruit orchard in front of you and the house is on your left. There are motion lights if you come in at night to help guide you to the entrance of the house. There is a covered porch to enjoy, as well as a patio that overlooks a front yard lush with flora and fauna. You are guaranteed to see a variety of wildlife such as deer, rabbits, chipmunks, hawks, eagles, owls, woodpeckers and the occasional bear. Don't get me started on the birds! It is a peaceful place surrounded by beauty.

Upon entering the house, you are welcomed by a cozy and charming living room with exceptionally high ceilings. There is a wood burning stove for winter nights and it is well lit by natural light. On this floor in the back of the house there are two bedrooms; one has a full sized bed and the second bedroom has a queen size canopy bed, large closet and is attached to the full bath.

There is a fully serviced kitchen on the main floor, which is a wonderful space to gather. Your friends and family can sit around a central island that seats four for cooking together, chatting and sharing appetizers. There is also a large table where you can sit down for a meal and enjoy a view of the beautiful field below. Often, you will be greeted by deer in the early mornings and at dusk.

The upstairs has a large and comfortable master suite with a queen sized bed, lovely views and a full bath. There is a bonus room in the loft area with twin beds and comfy reading/game spot that is perfect for kids. It also functions as a workspace, which is flooded with natural light and a view of the downstairs living space below. There is high speed internet and a desk if you need to check into work.

The basement has been transformed into a game room with full sized ping pong table, air hockey table, dartboard, foosball and a bookcase full of games and puzzles for family fun on rainy days. Plus, we have sleds, KanJam, cornhole, croquet, soccer balls, frisbees, scooters and more for those beautiful sunny days! There is also a playground just down the driveway that guests are free to use with younger kids.

If you are a fellow animal lover, the Cabin is part of the Frederick Goat Sanctuary. We have 40 (and counting) rescue goats (we'd love to tell you their stories - so please ask!)

Our herd of "Big Goats" We would love to have you meet them, hang out, and give them treats if you'd like (treats are provided ;).

Weather and schedule permitting, ask the owners for an evening "Goat Happy Hour" where guests can BYOB and join us to relax in hammocks and chairs surrounded by goats to chat about your day and get recommendations for things to do in the area! (Please note that this is available as an extra experience that we offer as we love our guests and goats, but cannot be guaranteed as it is dependent on owners' schedule/timing.)

If you'd like to join us for our more formal experiences such as "Hugs and Hike", the "Adventure Hiker" or "Art with Heart" - reservations are required in advance, unless you are flexible and can join us the day of when there are open spots!

We have a long list of local hikes, restaurants, experiences and attractions in a comprehensive guest binder at the cabin and happy to share our local spots!

Cabin is cozy, clean and has everything you could possibly need and more. The goats were a plus and we looked forward to feeding them daily and watching their antics. Plenty of hiking trails and nature galore. Truly an idealic location in the beautiful Catskill Mountains. Hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating!! Will definitely return!

Goats, Gals, and the Great Outdoors. Best. Stay. Ever.

The property is amazing. The decor is adorable. You really feel like you're at home as soon as you walk in the door. The house is CUTER in person, the pictures do not do it justice! The hosts were incredible and responsive, kind and informative. If you want to relax and hang out with goats in a nature like setting, you can NOT go wrong. Can not WAIT to plan my next visit!

This is a wonderful cabin to stay in. The area is quiet and peaceful. The cabin is comfortable with nice beds, TVs, and great kitchen. The basement was enjoyed by kids with many fun things to do and play with including air hockey, cards, and board games. Some goats are housed nearby and is a treat to see!

About the host

Hosted by Meagan Frederick

Host profile image
Warren and Meagan Frederick have lived in this area since 2008, after living on and off in New York CIty and Brooklyn.

Warren, from the Albany area, is a free-lance toy designer who works from his home office when he isn't out building something, like a house or a goat playground.

Meagan was born in Westchester and used her MA in art therapy to spend 20+ years working with medically ill-children in Manhattan. Her career took a turn in 2020, when COVID caused mass layoffs, and she took the on-site microsanctuary with a dozen or so animals, to a full-time rescue and sanctuary, specializing in goats.

Meagan and Warren love sharing their space with guests! From wildlife spotting, nature hikes, time spent with our rescues - we love sharing the things that bring us great joy and peace.

We love this area and this house, and are happy to help make your stay remarkable!

We are available for whatever you may need and can be reached easily on-site or via text. We’ll take our cues from you. We are happy give our guests space and complete privacy, but we are equally happy to share a glass of wine on the back deck or over an outdoor fire. Either way, we are readily available as needed to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay.

We absolutely love introducing people to this area and sharing all of the things we have grown to know and love! We can give our my favorite recommendations for places to eat, things to do, trails to hike and towns to explore.

We also love having an excuse to spend extra time with our herd of rescued goats, so please let us know when you want to spend extra, quality time with them!

Why they chose this property

The cabin was owned by a friend and neighbor for many years. When she decided to sell, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy this charming house, and use the infrastructure already in place to expand our rescue and sanctuary.

What makes this property unique

We love this house and think it is the perfect set-up for a family gathering, a restful vacation or a fun-filled trip with friends.

We provide art materials, yoga mats, ping-pong table, air hockey, foosball, darts, tons of games, books, DVD's plus more in the basement that is set-up as a game room for some inside fun!

For fun day outside in the yard, we have KanJan, croquet, soccer balls, cornhole, frisbess and more. If guests want to venture further away, we have a list of local restaurants, attractions and hikes for a day out.

That is, if you need something to do besides visit with our 30+ friendly rescue goats! Dog lovers will also enjoy visits from our 3 friendly rescue pups.

Animals, art, fun and nature - all together add up to an inspiring vacation, sure to add to a sense of well-being and overall health and happiness. :)
