Overall this was a very good stay. We enjoyed the peace and serenity surrounding the area. Very comfortable living room seating (plus couch in kitchen/dining area, great for morning coffee). Bed in loft very comfortable also.
We had two areas of concern (not complaints!)
1. Discovered on the first morning, we had no stove to prepare breakfast. (does have microwave and toaster oven) A positive, there is an excellent diner (Cafe Fina) up near the junction of I-25. We went there 2 mornings.
2. The stairs to the loft are a bit tricky for senior citizens (we are in our 70's) No railing on the top portion, which for us is needed. We both found ways to negotiate the stairs, but was careful as we came down. (especially on shaky morning legs) :)
Overall, we enjoyed out stay. R & I
This is a great location, just far enough out from Santa Fe to get out of the hustle and bustle but only a quick 20 min drive in.
Pros:
Hostess responded quickly
Nice welcome basket
Fantastic ranch-great for morning or evening walks!
Nice wildlife and a stable with beautiful horses right next door to the Casita
Plenty of bedding and towels
Good Wifi for work (we used every day)
Kitchen has the basics for a short trip
George Foreman electric grill outside
Air conditioning consisted of fans and one small swamp cooler downstairs. Most days we were fine with open windows.
Folks in El Dorado are super friendly.
There is a local grocery store in El Dorado if you don’t want to drive in to Santa Fe, with prices a little higher which is par for the course for a small town.
Disadvantages:
As others have mentioned, stairs are steep and no rails after the landing(but if you're only using one bed there is a futon or a couch bed downstairs)
Mini fridge and a two burner stove top is a challenge for longer stays. Minimal counter space for food prep. Mini fridge kept freezing the food in the refrigerated section. No pantry.
There is a dresser but no place to hang clothes upstairs.
Those staying downstairs used the utility closet to hang clothes.
The house is decorated eclectically. To ensure we didn't break keepsakes or dirty unnecessarily we put away many extra couch/chair pillows, rugs, and knick knacks. We tried to take pictures first but may have not got them all back exactly.
