About this property

Escape To The Country In Comfort And Style In An Eco-Friendly House

Have you ever wanted to have the quiet and solitude of being in the rolling countryside away from the stress of the city but still have all the comforts of a modern, luxurious house with a porch and rocking chairs to sit on while you commune with nature and watch the world go by? This 3 bedroom, 2 bath house on a working farm has all of this while being only 1 hour's drive from downtown Kansas City (45 minutes drive from World's of Fun, Oceans of Fun, and MCI airport), 20 minutes drive from St. Joseph Missouri and Missouri Western State University, 15 minutes drive from Atchison Kansas and Benedictine College, 15 minutes from Snow Creek Skiing, and 40 minutes drive from Fort Leavenworth Kansas. The house has 1 large bedroom with ensuite bathroom and two other large bedrooms with a shared bath, wood-burning fireplace, large front porch, large open plan kitchen, dining room, and all of the modern conveniences that you'd expect from a house that is less than 20 years old. If it's peace and quiet that you're after then this place is what you're looking for. It's a half-mile from the state highway on the top of a big hill so you have a panaramic degree view in all directions. The house is ideal for watching sunrises and sunsets but if you want to keep current on everything happening in the rest of the world then you can connect to the Wi-Fi. Bed linen, pillows, and towels are provided for all 3 bedrooms. Our guest safety is always one of our top priorities and the house has a full basement with a concrete floor and walls that is accessed via a staircase through the laundry room. In the event of a storm or tornado warning guests can go to the basement and be safe until the storm passes. The basement also has a separate secure outside walkout staircase with a steel door that provides an exit directly away from the house into the yard in case of a catastrophic weather event. We recently added solar panels to harvest the sun's free electrical energy and we feel good that we're doing everything we can to lower our house's use of commercial electricity that is generated using coal in this area. The panels are held in place by ground-mounted racks that are several meters away from the house and there are photos of the installation on this site.

Great house! Large kitchen, nice dining room with great windows for viewing, comfortable living room, nice sized bedrooms and nice bathrooms. Large front porch with chairs for enjoying the sunrise and sunset. If you love peace and quiet, except the the cows mooing which we loved, this place is for you. Would definitely stay again.

Farm Residence

When visiting the Atchison/St. Joe area this is the place to stay. It is very well appointed with everything needed to make for an enjoyable stay. It's located about fifteen minutes from the Benedictine College campus. When traveling to Atchison it is worth a visit to the newly opened Amelia Earhart Hanger Museum located on the Atchison Airport grounds. We have plans to make our fourth visit to this residence next summer.

Amazing Home

Should you visit the Atchison-St. Joseph area this residence is not to be missed. It has all of the amenities that one would want in a rental and then some. It's located minutes from Benedictine College and the Riverwood Winery. The farm is unbelievably beautiful. We hope to be back later this year.

Wonderful time

This was second time here. Met other siblings from around the country for a short reunion. This place has everything we could want, and it was great for large groups to gather. Even though we had large enough group several had to stay in Atchison, the owner, David, said everyone could gather here for visiting.

Beautiful and comfortable

We stayed at this gorgeous location because we were moving our daughter to Benedictine College as a freshman and we wanted to be comfortable with all the luggage and things we bought. We were also meeting with friends that were driving in and certainly wanted a place we could all hang out. Wow, not only was this house spacious but the views in the daytime, the beautiful sunset and the stars at night. We were extremely happy. Thank you so much. We look forward to going back 😊

Fantastic amenities

My family of 5 converged in Kansas City for Thanksgiving, and this was the perfect house to celebrate in! The large usable kitchen, extra sink, lots of casserole dishes and utensils helped. The house was a comfy get away from the normal city life we're use to. In all I highly recommend this property for any family getaway that likes to cook. The center island was wonderful to crowd around for snacks in the afternoon, while the large dinning room table served as an excellent place for dinner and cards in the evening. Also! The cows in the morning were a great fun to watch!

Peace and Serenity!

We booked this place as it was close to our work for the weekend. (We are food vendors and travel from festival to festival). The house was perfect for the 6 of us. The roominess was perfect as we never felt like we were packed in. Large kitchen and dining table enabled us to have dinner together But our most favorite part was the views from the front porch! Drinking coffee and watching the cows was so peaceful. Staying here was so relaxing that we requested to stay an extra day! Jany was so nice and the check in process was super easy. I'd definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for peace and quiet. We can't wait to return next year!

Beautiful Home in the Country

This well equipped and very comfortable home was perfect for our vacation to Missouri. The cows greeted us each morning and evening as they grazed on the surrounding pasture. The home was beautiful, comfortable, and very quiet. The location was perfect for our family gathering in Atchison. The hosts were wonderful and made our stay very easy to come and go. The home was equipped and stocked with everything needed for a family or friends to enjoy themselves while enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of this very unique property. The showers were hot and with great water pressure and the beds were very comfortable which allowed both couples a great night's sleep. If we return to this area, we would definitely return to this home for all of the above reasons.

We have stayed at this lovely home several times and once again we had a wonderful stay! The views are incredible and we enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We loved seeing the cattle & the beautiful surroundings. The house is so cozy and very clean! It offers everything we need to cook, enjoy our relaxing stay, & make many family memories! There are movies and games, the kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked, etc. Jany is such a wonderful hostess and is so welcoming. She responds quickly if anything is needed. We always love seeing her and her dogs as well! We highly recommend this property and will definitely stay here again!! The best place to stay when visiting our sons at Benedictine or for any other reason you may be in the area! Atchison is a close drive away where there are restaurants and stores. The house also provides recommendations of places to eat, visit, etc. St Joseph and Kansas City aren’t far away either! Thank you for an amazing stay at your beautiful home! We cannot wait to visit again!

4th of July stay!

We had such a peaceful and relaxing stay! My husband and I especially loved the cool night breeze and stargazing under the clear sky. Our kids had a great time with their own space and really enjoyed watching the cows roam the property. Jany was kind and made sure we knew she was available if we needed anything. A lovely experience all around! Nice change from the city life.

5 stars!

We had a wonderful experience during our stay in this home and we will definitely be renting this location again when we return to MO.First of, communication with both David and Jany Thomas were amazing! They responded to our questions as well as updates during our stay. The home itself was very clean when we arrived and a lot more spacious than what we expected and what the pictures shows. The appliances are updated and works well. There is speedy wifi and phone-data signal does reach the farm. That said, expect to bring some food /snacks when you get here because there are only a few delivery places that will do so.This said, being in the middle of farm-country was a great experience that we will definitely return too. Fun fact, at night, when the skies are clear, you can see a lot of stars - an experience we have yet to have living in the suburbs of FL! We were lucky that our first night here was on the night of the lunar eclipse and the blood moon...it was beautiful! My friends and I just laid on the grass in front of the fenced-in home and watch the whole process. Even the other two nights that we were there, you can still see the stars so clearly. In addition, seeing the cows during the day was a fun sight to see.Overall a relaxing experience and definitely recommend!
