Thank You for your kind review. As a host I just want to express how important it is to have open honest communication for guests and host to have a five star experience.
When you booked you didn't mention bringing a trailer & side-by-sides. When I called you I was told you were a cancer patient and needed it to see the Black Hills with a friends and would have 2. When you arrived here there were 3 utility vehicles.
I have posted on the property description No Smoking Property and posted inside the property. When I saw and smelled the smoke I was surprised/shocked that you were smoking. I guess I thought a cancer patient wouldn't be smoking and definitely when it's clearly stated and posted this is a No Smoking Property.
I suggest when you book in the future you choose a property that fits your needs and communication openly with the host. I hope this is helpful to you and other guests and host.
Had a great stay. We were there for the Sturgis motorcycle rally. Nice location for all the riding. The deck was a very relaxing place to spend some time at the end of the day. Great host.

So glad you enjoyed your time in the Black Hills and relaxing at the Hide-A-Way. Hope to see you again when back in the area. Safe Travels!
Facility was very clean. We utilized the laundry facility. The location was centrally located for all the places we wanted to go in the Black Hills. The Host provided excellent communications throughout the stay.
We enjoyed seeing wildlife almost everyday. Area was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the rocking chairs on the private deck and the view of the lake is beautiful in the morning. Appreciated use of the grill and all the other items in the home.
Very clean and accommodating. Short drive from busy Deadwood. Great place to relax at the end of the day. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this property again. Owners are very easy to communicate with and the scenery is amazing. Just what we were looking for

We are so glad you and your family enjoyed your time at the Hide-A-Way. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family while visiting the Black Hills.
Thank you for your kind review and choosing to stay with us.
Hope to you again!
This is one of the best VRBO experiences I have ever had. Not only did the space exceed expectations, but the host is amazing. She was kind, helpful, responsive, and made us feel completely at home. The location is central to all black hills activities while still feeling private and secluded. I would not hesitate to stay again (and am actively planning to). Also check out the Sugar Shack restaurant for awesome breakfast and the biggest pancakes I’ve ever seen!!

George it was a pleasure having You and your Guests. We would love to have You back anytime...and both if possible :-) I hope you have a wonderful trip and hope to see you again soon!
Thank You so much for your review....Safe Travels!
This was our 2nd time to stay at Janet’s place in Nemo. The property is secluded, yet right in a road that takes you to Deadwood, which is where we went. You find yourself with an opportunity to unplug from the outside world and enjoy the bountiful wildlife that come close enough to see. The unit is a basement unit with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, bath, laundry and a living room. So long as you can get up and down stairs with ease, you will love this place.

We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your time at the Hide-A-Way and your time in the Black Hills. Hope to see you again when you are back in the area. Safe Travels!
Not exactly what we expected from initial description. Located in basement of main house down steep stairs. Getting past that the space was very quaint with lots of room for our family. Occasionally could hear movement from owners but still felt private and secluded. Back deck is amazing and provides such beautiful views of nature and creatures. Owner provided great instruction to locating house. Great location with nice drive to scenic spots. Would definitely stay again.

Glad you enjoyed the location.
The property description does say there are 8 steps into the property with pictures to show as best possible. Sorry it wasn't what you expected, but do hope you were comfortable. We would look forward to hosting again. Thank You

Beautiful location, great amenities, helpful hosts
We had 3 adults and 5 kids ranging from 3-14 years old. Our 2 families were very comfortable and loved this home! Listing and pictures are very accurate - - very clean and very well maintained. Location is remote, but that was GREAT for our families - - especially the back yard with fire pit! We were close to Spearfish, Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, a short drive to Devil's Tower and the Wind Cave. The owners John and Janet were so helpful and very responsive before and during our stay - - we had a fresh fire pit made up for us after each use even! Our families have already asked to go back to his vacation home - -we would absolutely recommend this home to our friends and families!! :)

very nice and quiet.
The Wolfe's were great hosts. Plenty of room for the 5 of us. They even warned us of hail storm that was coming in to move a couple show cars we brought to safer parking on the property.

Very clean property. Loved the little lake across the road, our boys had fun fishing it. The owners made us a wonderful pancake breakfast and even delivered! Very friendly. We had a very nice stay here and loved that it was in the middle of everywhere we wanted to go.

Large clean basement apartment/cold and dark
Though the owners were very nice, the apartment was a disappointment .
It was eight steps down into a cold basement . The temperature was approximately 60° in the middle of summer . In order to keep warm we had to put on a wood-burning stove or space heaters and lots of clothing to sleep.
The only light that came in from the outside was from very small windows that were mostly covered by metal guards .
The beds were very comfortable , the kitchen well-equipped , and apartment was clean .
The bathroom , however was very hard for us to use . The toilet was up on a platform approximately 10 inches from the ground . There was not a handle to hold as you got up and down off this platform to use the toilet . Not at all safe for two senior citizens .
The property was remotely located off a dark road at night . We got lost coming home from Mount Rushmore evening program , as the house is not illuminated or visible from the road , We ended up having to call the owners to guide us home .
In addition to paying cleaning fee upfront we were charged additional because we didn't strip the beds and we didn't put the used towels in the proper hamper . Was also left a dish in the sink and a little bit of food on the stove . The owners who saw us daily never mentioned these requirements. Though it might be in a contract , We didn't remember the small print, being 68 and 77 years old .
The owners were very nice when we were there, and unkind after we left , by holding back some of our deposit.
I do not recommend this property to any seniors , anyone with allergies, or anyone who is sensitive to cold , If you want to see the daylight when you wake up in the morning , do not stay in this apartment . It has a nice backyard, and table to eat out, with lots of flowers and birds . Again, the owners were kind and helpful.

The Wolfes were great hosts
We rented the downstairs portion of the house and it was very comfortable even during the hottest days (95 degrees on one day). Everything worked and there was plenty of room for two adults and three teenagers. The lake is right across the street so it's really close and the kids had a good time fishing. This location is pretty remote - plan on driving a while to go to any of the attractions (45 minutes plus) except for Deadwood which is about 20 minutes away. The closest big-box grocery stores are in Rapid City which is about 45 minutes. You can get a few things at some small markets (the Steel Wheel on Hwy 385 was the best) about 15 minutes away. The Steel Wheel is also the only store in the area that sells fishing licenses. The Wolfes couldn't have been better hosts - they were always checking that we had everything we needed. They brought down a newspaper every morning and were always available if we had any questions. The homemade cookies on our first day and the handmade tote were really nice touches. Your cell phone will probably not work here, but cell service is pretty shaky anywhere in the Black Hills. We have Verizon and T-Mobile and we only got service in the cities (Rapid City, Hill City, Keystone, etc.). The internet is also pretty slow, but that's to be expected due to the limited coverage. Neither was a problem for us because we wanted to "get away" from technology and this place was perfect for us.
We caught lots of rainbow trout in the pond, went on lots of hikes (Custer State Park and the Badlands were the best), went to Mount Rushmore, rode the 1880 train from Hill City to Keystone, rented bicycles from Rabbitt Bicycle in Hill City, and lots more. This area has a lot of fun things to do. We didn't eat out a lot, but the 50's diner in Hill City was pretty good. You're not going to have a lot of chain restaurants except in Rapid City, so you have to be a little adventurous.
You can't have any better hosts than the Wolfes and if you want a cool, comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of life, this place is definitely for you.

About the host
Hosted by John & Janet Wolfe
John retired from teaching high school History, US Government in 2008 and Janet retired from Non-Profit Development in 2008. We lived in Lake Tahoe for over 18 years and decided to relocate in 2009. John accepted a position with the US Forest Service in Nemo, SD. We had vacationed in the area a number of years...and thought what a wonderful place to live! We loved Lake Tahoe...and found this area as beautiful and more peaceful.
When we purchased the property we wanted to share with others the beauty, peace, and bountiful wildlife that we experience is in the area.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing some of the wonders of this area and some interesting stories too!
