About this property
Log Cabin On A Lake With Private Dock & Beach! One Hour from NYC! No Pet Fees!
We are one of VRBO's highest-rated/reviewed properties in the Hudson Valley (and I do not ask for reviews).
Quintessential Hudson Valley, just over an hour north of NYC, charming and peaceful renovated-1950s cabin with private lake dock and beach on beautiful Lake Dutchess. This non-motorboat, quiet, peaceful private lake is the perfect setting for the Fall foliage, Winter snowscapes, Spring blooms, and Summer swimming. Take a canoe ride (provided), fish (PLENTY of bass), a summer dip, or sled in the winter.
Immersed in the woods, this cozy log cabin is a perfect mix of rural/rustic charm and updated, modern appeal. Recently gut-renovated, the cabin has an open living room with skylights, huge windows to the lake, and a retro fireplace. Three small bedrooms branch off the living room, two rooms with a queen-size bed each, and one with a bunk bed (kids only). One updated, white bathroom with shower. The kitchen comes fully equipped with new appliances and opens up to the dining room, which has a wall of windows to the lake. From there, you can exit onto the top deck of the house for the grill or relax on the patio furniture, or the porch swing on the lower deck. The house is built on a huge rock which is also great to lay on during the summers, or head down to the lake dock (just a few footsteps away), and hang out there, take a swim, or grab the canoe or paddle board.
Additional amenities provided include AC/Heating system, Wireless WiFi, fishing poles, canoe, kayak, paddleboard (summer) , firelogs (winter), high thread-count sheets, cotton towels, Beekman 1802 Toiletries, outdoor gas grill, washer/dryer, Apple TV with streaming accounts, and most kitchen needs.
The location of the house is perfect. Though quietly nestled in the woods surrounded by nature, it is a mile or two from Interstate-84 which takes you straight to Beacon, Cold Spring, or Kent, CT in 20 minutes. Metro North's Southeast station on the Harlem Line is 10 minutes away so a commute to NYC is very convenient for guests who need to come and go.
The area attractions include great hiking at Wonder Lake, Nuclear Lake (part of the iconic Appalachian Trail), Beacon Reservoir, and Breakneck Ridge (named by Newsweek as one of the 10 Best Hiking Trails in the Country). And great biking on the state-wide Empire Trail, minutes from the cabin!
We are centrally located to some quintessential Hudson Valley towns. Beacon, right on the Hudson River with amazing shops and restaurants, is home to the world-renowned DIA Art Museum. Other nearby Hudson Valley towns worthy of a visit include Cold Spring, Pawling, and Kent (CT).
There is also Splashdown Beach, a water park 15 minutes away. During the winter, besides the frozen lake and beautiful snow-covered surroundings, there is Thunder Ridge Ski Resort 10 minutes away. The Autumn is amazing with the colorful fall foliage every which way and festivals abound. Go apple-picking at the beautiful Fishkill Farms, only ten minutes away. And of course Spring starts us into summer with the snow melting and the leaves and flowers blooming!
Please note, we do not rent to anyone under the age of 25, and have a 4 adult maximum (6 person max, if at least two children are included), as the bunk beds are for children only. This is a peaceful lake community. If you and your guests tend to be on the loud, partying side, this is NOT the house/lake for you.
IMPORTANT!!! During the Winter and early Spring months, four-wheel/all-wheel drive is highly recommended to access the cabin. If there is ice/snow, though it is plowed, you can still get stuck on the final road to the cabin.

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with lakefront cabin life staying with a friend and enjoying all that their lake had to offer. We were looking for a similar weekend getaway and this lovely house just fell from the Gods it seemed.
What makes this property unique
We've often been told that the house works both for someone who wants a rustic, authentic cabin-feel, as well as for someone who may perhaps not want to leave all modern conveniences aside and appreciates art and design. It's comfortable, cozy, tasteful, and can be as adventurous or peaceful as you make it. It seems to please almost every type of person needing a break from city life.
