Wailua Riverside is a tree top cottage, furnished Hawaiiana style, fully equipped kitchen, one bedroom with a memory foam queen bed, sitting room with a full size sofa sleeper; as well as, a covered lanai offering outdoor dining. Wailua Beach is a block away and the sound of ocean waves hitting the beach will lull you to sleep each night. From your bed or lanai, watch as breathtakingly beautiful pink skies form through swaying coconut trees at sunrise.

Located at the Sacred Wailua River, where only the ancient Hawaiian Royalty were allowed to visit, Wailua Riverside is a two minute walk to an awesome eight-mile shoreline of uncrowded, sandy beaches. You are steps from a dock where you can launch your own kayak unto the Wailua River to explore and find the trail to Secret Waterfalls, one the top 10 things to do on Kauai. Water skiing, Wakeboarding, and Speed Boating are also available from the same dock.

Within a mile you will find: Wailua Beach, Ancient Hawaiian ruins; a Hawaiian village; Opaeka’a Falls; Lydgate Park offering protected ocean swimming, a 2.2 mile jogging trail and Smith’s Tropical Paradise offering one of the best island Luau’s. Grocery stores, souvenir shops and most of the island’s restaurants are available within a 3 mile radius. Further up the road is Kauai’s Hindu Monastery, an incredible place, set in an absolutely idyllic environment next to the Wailua River and a stupendous waterfall, a must see!

The airport is 6 miles away, the nearest town is Kapaa just one mile away and the road does not go all around the island which makes this property ideal. You can drive north or south and return to a location central to the island.

A little slice of paradise

This was our first trip to Kauai, and though we originally booked a spot down south, we're so glad we made the switch to the more centrally located Coconut Coast. Staying by the river was a dream—kayaks at our fingertips and friendly neighbors on the dock each evening as the sun dipped below the horizon. This treetop cottage is a hidden gem—an incredible value for the price. It’s just minutes from the beach and freeway, yet it feels like a peaceful retreat tucked away in the trees. The lanai became our little sanctuary. Candace was wonderfully welcoming and quick to respond to any questions. We had an amazing time exploring Kapa'a and both ends of the island. We'll definitely be back!

Blissful Stay on Royal Land

My husband and I stayed at the cottage for almost two weeks. It was absolutely perfect, all we needed to be comfortable, rested and supported during the vacation. We were delighted to have use of the kayaks, easy access to the river via the dock, beach chairs and snorkeling gear. The cottage is very clean and well appointed. The back patio is a big plus for early morning coffee sipping and listening to the birds. We would most certainly come back and stay at the cottage again, especially if we get to meet Candace again. She is lovely and spent some time giving us some history of the area. An incredibly lovely experience and I thank her for offering this cottage for rental! If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would!

Loveable Lodging

This little hideaway sports a feel that makes you want to return. Sure it is a rental that has everything you need and is in a great location but what makes it memorable is it's soul. Books,tasteful decor, good lighting....really a fine place to stay.

Sweet cottage in a convenient location

Upon arrival to the convenient location I appreciated the parking stall in the covered carport beneath the cottage. Very comfortable and cute cottage with everything one might need. I enjoyed kayaking up the Wailua river and having the access with the private communal dock just across the cul de sac. The bed was very comfortable and I slept soundly to the breezes and sounds of the trees and rain with the windows open. Didn’t use the air conditioner, but nice option to have. The only down side, which has nothing to do with this lovely cottage, is the current construction on the highway bridge crossing the Wailua river. Because I wanted fresh air and open windows, the noise from the cranes and cars was not the peaceful setting I was hoping for, especially on the sweet outside lanai. Attention to detail, cleanliness and Hawaiian decor is greatly appreciated. Mahalo!

Roomy, comfortable and very nice decor. Well thought out to meet our needs. Especially enjoyed the Lani looking out at the tree tops. Just a short path to the wide smooth river.

Perfect stay near the Wailua River

Great one week stay here. Very cute, well appointed and cozy cottage right near the Wailua River. Beautiful grounds and easy access to surrounding areas. The host is very accessible and accommodating, and knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommended.

This is a sweet hawaiian original. It had everything we needed and was quiet and convenient. The river was just steps away. We enjoyed staying here for the last leg of our trip.

Wilua Riverside Hideaway

We had a wonderful stay next to the Wailua River! The Riverside hideaway had everything available for a perfect beach day or a paddle down the river. Enjoyed being in a residential area and really leaning into the rhythm of the Island. We will definitely stay here again!

Private and Perfect

Candace’s VRBO is exceptional. Quietly away from the bustle of a resort, but right on the river and close to all that Kapa’a has to offer. And Kapa’a is exceptional too, with lots to do locally and all of Kauai close whether you head north or south.

Amazing Room and Accommodations

Candace went overboard in taking care of us. She was easy to get ahold of and listened to our needs. The room was amazing and the kitchen was very well stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans. We had everything needed to fully cook any meal we wanted. She provided a free concierge service who took care of all of our excursions. We will definitely call her again for our next trip. Thank you Candace for an amazing place to enjoy our 25th anniversary. We didn't want to leave.

Peaceful River Cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this River Cottage! The check in process was effortless and the cottage was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed using the Kayaks and paddling to the Fern Grotto & Secret Falls. We loved cooking at the cottage and watching the sunset in the evenings. The neighbors were friendly and we would love to visit again.

Better than expected

The place is in a peaceful, quiet, residential neighborhood right on the river and close to the beach. The paddle boards and kayaks were a lot of fun, and my husband loved the laid-back feel of the cottage and all the real wood. It was nicer than we expected. Candace was very sweet and helpful. We hope to stay here again.

Beware of roosters!

Although this little cottage was adorable and had a great location the lack of sleep really put a damper on our honeymoon. Kauai is known for roosters squawking but this was another level. The owner of the house/cottage actually feeds them so on average 4-5 roasters plus many hens and babies hang around this property in particular and roost in the 2 trees mere feet from the bedroom and living room windows. They screech starting at around 1am and continued through the night, then would go crazy at the crack of dawn even more. We even used ear plugs but you could still hear them through the ear plugs as the windows were very thin shutters that did not keep out any noise. And having the roosters so close to them it was pretty bad. We are not picky people and backpack/hostel a lot, but we decided to upgrade to a nicer place for our stay, but honestly it wasn’t worth a week of zero sleep. We did mention to Candice that she should stop feeding them and look into having them relocated for the sake of guests staying there. People come on vacation to relax but there was no rest here. Other than the zero sleep this place was honestly very cute and nice, the bed was comfy and sheets soft so take out the birds and you would get a great sleep lol. The lanai was very lovely and we enjoyed dinners on it. The river being so close was great! The use of Kayaks and sups was nice, although they needed a very good spray and cleaning from all the bird poop covered all over them. So maybe another thing to note. We returned the kayak cleaner than found. Laundry and access to beach gear was another bonus. We are adventurous people so the location here was very good but definitely a few things need to be worked on/addressed.

Great location and amenities, but not what we expected.

Here's what we really liked about the property. 1. Great location, right by the river. 2. Candace was really nice greeting us upon our arrival. 3. Amenities galore! Using the kayak was great, right by the river. She has everything there you could need. 4. Everything is close by for food, dining, shopping, day trips to the North shore, etc, 5. Decent view from the cottage. These items were not so great. ( this may not be as important to you, as it was to us ). 1. Heavy rain woke us up every night, you are up stairs so you really hear it when it pours. 2. Birds were very loud every morning & the sun shines brightly into your room, i.e. 6-7a.m. The existing shades do not keep the room dark. 3. A/C for the cottage is a single wall unit, not a whole house system, the cottage stayed fairly warm from late morning thru early evening. Here's what we really didn't like at all. 1. ANTS!!! they were everywhere in the kitchen, on the counter, stove, in the dishware, and even in the coffee maker, also in the bathroom. We used the ant spray under the sink, but gave up after 2 days. I called Candace about it, but she only offered to spray for them which I already did. We also found ant traps in several areas of the cottage. I also told her at that time we wouldn't feel comfortable staying here again because of the problem, she said sorry and that was it. 2. On our last night we were woken up by a loud garbage truck at 5:20am, my wife and I couldn't go back to sleep after that. We were super tired flying home later that day. 3. Lastly, when we checked out we had to wait to a few minutes while she was on the phone, no apologies, no offers for a credit, partial refund or something / anything! Just thank you & " have a nice life ". We couldn't believe it! Not professional about such a major problem with the ants. We will not stay here again, nor recommend it based on our experience. It wasn't what we expected or hoped for. The ants and being woken up every night ruined it for us.

November Visit

The location of this property is ideal if wanting to explore the whole island since it is located on the east side right in between Princeville and Waimea. This unit is in a residential area that gives you an authentic Hawaiian feel. We cooked breakfast and dinner just about every day and found the kitchen to be well stocked. You are on your own for condiments other than salt and pepper, which is what I expected. The dock was great to enjoy an afternoon beverage on to view the sunset behind the mountain and to launch the kayak that she has on hand. There were no additional instructions for check in so make sure to at least touch base with Candace to get the info on what is available to use...i.e. where the life jackets are, a cooler, beach chairs etc. The typical rooster alarm clock that is a part of Kauai was not too bad here. In fact we really did not hear them much at all. We would definitely stay here again.

Honeymoon stay

We loved our stay in Kauai next to the Waimea river. If you stay here, book on a Saturday so you can take the kayaks out on the day there aren’t tourists around! The lanai was our favorite place; we spent every morning out there. Good functional amenities and a spacious house, plus lots of equipment like snorkels, sun hats, etc (though some of the equipment is well-loved). Clean bathroom and the rest of the house too - we didn’t think we’d use the laundry but it came in handy. You can’t really walk anywhere easily due to its location on a very busy road but it’s not far from some nice beaches and restaurants. The absolutely kind hosts made our stay a great one!

Good to be back again

Second stay for us at the cottage. Great location and neighborhood, peaceful, and Candace is very charming and responsive. Loved watching the chickens bed down in the hibiscus bush at night, and then pop out at daybreak!

Great Kauai Getaway!

We spent 9 nights at the cottage and really enjoyed the space and location. We were close to everything but felt like we were in our own little world. Would definitely recommend to any couple visiting the island!

Romantic River Retreat

We loved everything about this property! Worth every penny for the water toys available to take the trip to secret falls. It was a great central location to explore the islands. We cooked all our dinners in the kitchen and loved having Kona coffee and breakfast on the rooftop deck with sunrise. No problems with check in or check out. My husband is a custom home builder/historic preservation contractor and we loved the cottage charm and furnishings. Mahalo Nui!

Great Location!

The bungalow was in a great location and a perfect spot to have as a home base to explore the island. Air conditioning after a long day in the sun was such an added bonus. They had all the amenities for the beach and river. Highly recommend!!!
