2-bedroom lakefront condo overlooking Donner Lake and beach.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION on DONNER LAKE, TRUCKEE: enjoy its pristine beauty all year round! Donner Lake is called the "Jewel of Tahoe" because it’s so clean and unspoiled. There's nothing but a little sand (or snow) between you and a beautiful lake. A serene setting with panoramic views. Enjoy your stay at our 1300 square foot cozy, somewhat rustic and comfortable condo on the lake. The outdoor photo's were all taken from our balcony which is off our living room, so what you see is what you get.

SUMMER: has lots of lake activities and we also have a seasonal dock (Memorial Day - Labor Day) and a slip for your boat or you can rent a watercraft at the marina right on the compound. They rent everything from jet skies to paddle boats to ski boats and party boats. More info on request.
* Occasionally a train goes by across the lake on the mountainside and it's great to see and hear as it charges along.
WINTER: we have four major ski resorts nearby, some smaller ones and some cross country locations too. Sugar Bowl is the closest major resort and was the first in CA in 1937, a 10 minute drive. Squaw Valley, North Star and Alpine Meadows, 15 - 20 minute drives. There's a smaller, easier, less expensive one close by across from Sugar Bowl called Donner Ski Ranch and the rustic/casual restaurant there also, open almost year round. Lots of sledding all around the area. More info upon request.
Lakeside Pub, just two blocks west of us is a great place to get a bite to eat year round and there's a seasonal, cute little ice cream parlor across the street from us and a small convenience store too.
NEARBY ACTIVITIES: Besides the lake, Casino's, 30 minute drive, Donner Memorial State Park and museum, 5 minutes, Reno Nevada, 40 minutes and Lake Tahoe, 30 minutes. Squaw Valley/Palisades , Sugar Bowl and Northstar all have activities during summer and winter months. A Kids zone in town with lots of activities. 6 miles of abandoned train tunnels with artwork on the walls from artists all over the world, minutes. Look for placard on your left for trail head. Hiking trails everywhere. Besides our private beach, 1/4 mile away is the lakes largest public beach and there's a tennis and pickle ball court there too. Organized rafting down the Truckee river or go it on your own. More details on request.
THE LAYOUT: We have two bedrooms with two and a half bathrooms and a loft. Both bedrooms have balconies off them also off the living room. Baths have a total of 3 sinks, 3 toilets, 1 double wide shower and 1 shower/tub combo. One bedroom has a Cal King "SIeep Number" mattress with fully adjustable firmness control, perfect for people with bad backs and for those who like their bed, "juuust right". The other bedroom/bunk-room has an extra long Single over a Queen. Also a third folded portable single bed. Our townhouse sleeps up to 8 adults, with two to the king and queen beds and one to each single bed.
KITCHEN is fully equipped with service for 8. Coffee maker (no grinder), toaster oven, 4 slice bagel and bread toaster, 2 "Crock Pots" (one large, one small), plenty of pots and pans, double oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge.
TO DO: too much to list but here's a start
HISTORIC OLD TOWN TRUCKEE: is a 10 minute drive along the lake where you'll find quaint little shops to browse through with wooden boardwalks and restaurants of the old west from "a time gone by". Visitors love visiting this part of town. Check out the great visitor center too at the train station with plenty of brochures and info on things to see and do in the entire North Shore Tahoe region from Train rides to whitewater rafting, to skydiving and much much more. The passenger train passes through daily for travelers getting on and off in Truckee then it continues on to Reno Nevada. One of our favorite large restaurants is "Bar of America" for food, drinks and live music on weekends. It's quite a happening place! There's also a wine bar across the street and many, many other places to dine.
MODERN TRUCKEE as we call it, is a 6 minute scenic drive along the lake. There you'll find large chain stores for grocery, pharmacy, hardware, firewood, gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops, fast food places and more. One of our favorite restaurants there is Taco Jalisco's for excellent, casual, authentic, fresh MEX. (located next to the 7-11 store)

FALL and SPRING is when it quiets down on the lake. You'll have it pretty much to yourself. It’s a wonderful time to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet serenity on the lake. There's really no way to describe it, you just have to experience it for yourselves. It truly is a beautiful spot.

Beautiful lakefront property with incredible views. Super cozy. Beds were really comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and Tor, our host, was very responsive and super helpful. We were eight minutes from Sugar Bowl! Loved this stay!
The place was beautiful and had wonderful views. Kitchen has everything you would need and communication with the host was really smooth. I highly recommend!
Our brief getaway to Tor’s perfect Donner Lake home was a delight. Have enjoyed Tahoe for 30 years, but never stayed at Donner. Perfect location all year round and look forward to coming back soon. Tor made it so easy.
A paddle boarders paradise! Loved the view from the deck! There is so much within walking distance - ice cream shop, marina to rent a boat, a private beach!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo on Donner Lake. We have stayed at many different locations in the Truckee area but this is now our family favorite. The owner was always super helpful and very responsive. I definitely hope to book again!
Excellent property with a front row view of the lake and the Donner Triathlon this past weekend which was super fun. Very convenient to the marina as well, jus steps away so renting paddleboards and a boat for wake surfing was easy. Highly recommend !
The condo was great. Check in easy. Host communicated well prior and after our stay. It had everything we needed, especially the kitchen. We would definitely book again.
Had the best week, It felt like you had your own private lake. There was access to everything you needed from paddleboards to ice cream shops. Very comfortable and well equipped condo. The host was available for any questions. Can't wait to come back.
Donner is perhaps a somewhat overlooked gem in the Sierras lingering in the shadow of its big brother, Lake Tahoe. It's great and this place is perfectly situated. We loved our stay.

Thx for taking a minute to write a review.
Was my pleasure to host you. I didn’t do much it’s really the location and unit that makes people love their vacation here. I’m just here to manage and assist my guests when needed. Thx again. Tor
The location can't be beat! Steps from the water with unobstructed beach front views of the lake, and close proximity to all Truckee has to offer. The condo was comfortable and cozy, and Tor's prompt and easy communication made for a very enjoyable trip. Bring your boat, paddleboards, kayaks, and a good book- this is the perfect spot for kicking back and relaxing!
Tor's Donner Lake condo is rustic and cozy, yet spacious. It's well appointed. The kitchen is well stocked with all the table wear you would need. The bedrooms were nice, and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were also nice. The upstairs TV room was cozy and a great place to talk about the day's adventures. The lake views from the open plan kitchen, dining area, living room and large deck are absolutely beautiful. It's a peaceful and serene setting. We had one of the happiest and memorable times.Tor is a great host and was easy to communicate with.
We loved the condo but stay was diminished by intrusiveness of host/owner

Unfortunately my experience with this guest was far from ideal. Just prior to the start of their reservation, they wanted to alter their dates which was outside the available time frame, per our policy. Furthermore they were reluctant to comply with our policy of providing a copy of their drivers license. Then I discovered the address on their DL was incorrect and again they were reluctant to comply. Once they occupied our condo, we discovered they had misrepresented their headcount which is not acceptable. Overall I would not recommend this guest to other hosts.
About the host
Hosted by Tor McLean
We live in the San Francisco East Bay and have owned places in the Tahoe area since 1970. We’ve been hosting in Truckee since 2003.
Why they chose this property
RBeing on the water is very special. Places on the lake do come available to purchase very often so we waited for six years for one to come on the ,market. While some listings say "lakefront" they are not really. Some have roads with cars, houses or tree's between them and the lake. Our's is truly lakefront.
What makes this property unique
Its superb location on the lake gives you the best views and location available. Also the compounding sewith its seasonal dock and the marina boat rental company right here. Close proximity to several ski resorts. It's a special location.
