About this property

2 Master Bedrooms, quiet location near Swim Cove, tennis courts and golf course

Our comfortable Thousand Island Park cottage sleeps 10 and is ideal for large or extended families. It offers two Master bedrooms on the ground floor, each with queen sized beds. There are two full baths (one on each floor), a third bedroom downstairs with a set of bunk beds, and a large loft bedroom for the kids upstairs with four singles and a double. It is located within easy walking distance to everything in the Park, yet it is in a quite area away from the 'packed in like sardines' cottages where you can't have a conversation without all the neighbors overhearing. This cottage offers privacy and lots of room to spread out while overlooking the State Park Golf Course, tennis courts and a large forever green park like area for the kids to run and play in directly across from the cottage. It's also less than 200 yards away from the Park's 'Swimming Cove', a sandy beach, with a shallow swimming area and a floating swim platform. The cottage has a laundry room, pantry, kitchen with fridge, microwave, range, coffee maker, Keurig, etc., a Fischer wood stove, a dining area and living room with cable tv, DVD, cd stereo system and Wi-Fi. The wrap around porch has wicker furniture, picnic table, porch swing, rocking chairs, and two Weber charcoal grills.

Kickback, relax and enjoy swaying on the wicker porch swing with a cocktail in one hand and an arm around your honey, and just watch the world go by. Or sit in the shade of the porch and read a good book. If the weather turns bad, enjoy a good read from the selection provided, pick one of over a hundred movies from the cottage DVD library, or play one of the board games available in the cottage with the kids. There's something for everyone to do.

Our cottage is named 'Scratch Pad' after the family printing business and has been owned by my family for over 40 years. You'll find that it has everything to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Grill a great steak on the Weber, dine al fresco at the picnic table on the porch, then take a leisurely stroll down to the Guzzle for an ice cream cone for dessert. Afterwards, walk down the street to the Tabernacle for a free movie or concert before heading back to your cottage for a great nights sleep.
If you enjoy golf, there is a fun 9 hole course just yards away from the cottage. If you're looking for more of a challenge, a 10 minute drive to the opposite end of the Island brings you to the Thousand Island Club. Here you will find two PGA caliber 18 hole courses, Clubhouse, Pro Shop and casual and fine dining restaurants.
Just 10-15 minutes over the bridge on the Mainland, are the towns of Alexandria Bay, Fishers Landing, and Clayton where you can find a great assortment of good restaurants, bars, and night clubs for dancing, music, or shows. From these towns you can also take an international boat tour to Boldt Castle on Heart Island or to Singer Castle on Dark Island. Or hire a fishing guide to go after a record Muskie, Northern Pike, Walleye or Bass, or just enjoy one of the Guide's famous 'Shore Dinners'. You can also visit the largest antique boat museum in the world, where you can take a ride on an antique speed boat or row a St. Lawrence Skiff. You will also find all sorts of gift, jewelry, antique, and clothing shops, boat rentals, go-carting, hot air balloon rides, winery and distillery tours, the Minna Anthony Nature Center on Wellesley Island, miniature golf, live concerts and shows, and one of the last remaining drive-in movie theaters in New York State.
A 5 minute drive from the cottage will also bring you to the Canadian border. Just a few minutes drive further you will find the towns of Brockville, Gananoque, and Kingston. Here you can visit the Charity Casino, Fort Henry with elaborate military displays and 'Tattoo" reinactments with fireworks, and fife and drum shows put on by the Fort Henry Guard Cadet Corp made up of college cadets. You can also visit Upper Canada Village with daily reenactments of days gone by. You will also find dirt track races, water parks, an Aquaterium, indoor rock climbing walls, bike trails, trolly and boat tours. kayak rentals, marinas, and ghost walks, along with many more great restaurants, shops, and entertainment opportunities including B-B-Q competitions, Hydroplane races, Busker's Weekend, and Farmers Markets.
.
T.I. Park itself has a lot to offer. You won't even have to leave the Park for fine dining at the Wellesley Hotel restaurant with downstairs pub, boutique gift shops, museum with golf cart and cottage tours, library with children's story hours, fishing or sunbathing at the Main Dock, Catholic Mass and Protestant church services on Sundays in the Tabernacle, Rock Ridges nature hiking trail, daily adult supervised kids lawn games and dance, art, and tennis lessons. The Park Yacht Club offers sailing and kayaking lessons and races. There is a Marina with gas and bait, the Guzzle ice cream parlor and grocery, golf cart, bike and kayak rentals, and numerous community events including the Strawberry Festival, concerts on the lawn, kids costume parade, fishing derbies and a community triathlon. The Park also hosts Block Parties, Concerts, and Public Speakers. Take advantage of all of these, or just relax on a bench and watch the ships glide past in the Main Channel. Or you can just rock on your porch in the shade and enjoy the fresh air and good conversation with family and friends. Scratch Pad offers it all.

Our 'Scratch Pad' cottage has been owned and enjoyed by our family for nearly 40 years. Before my folks could afford their own cottage in this 'Garden of the Gods' as the Native Americans called it, we rented cottages in the Park. We never missed a summer. When an opportunity came up to buy a cottage, they invested. A few years later, as our family grew and kids began starting their own families, we bought what is now Scratch Pad, to handle us all. When purchased, the cottage received a near total make over to what it looks like today.

Why they chose this property

It's a family affair for us at the Park. I have my mother, two sisters and a brother and their families each owning their own cottage in the Park. My wife and I, along with our three children, also have a second cottage where we spend our summers. This allows us to invite family and friends to visit and stay at Scratch Pad, or to offer it for rent. We've hosted wedding parties, family reunions, 50th Wedding Anniversaries, Thanksgivings and Christmases, and all kinds of celebrations at this cottage. My family loves to come up in the winter to stay at the cottage and snowmobile around town. It's quiet, beautiful, and toasty warm in the cottage with our wood burning Fischer stove.

What makes this property unique

My kids enjoy inviting their friends up to T.I.Park for a visit and being able to introduce them to the natural beauty and fun of 'the River' and of Thousand Island Park. They love to tube behind our boat, paddle their double kayak over to South Bay and back, fish for 'Sunnys' off the dock, swim at the Cove, sunbath at the Main Dock with the other teens, work at the movie theater, and meet their friends at the fire pit at night. My wife and I enjoy inviting friends over after dinner to sit on our porch with a glass of wine or two, to talk, tell stories and jokes, or play cards or a board game til it's too dark to see. We also enjoy walking up to the Wellesley Hotel for a great meal served on their porch, joining trivia night in the Pub, taking visitors for boat rides to point out the famous landmarks on the River, going to the Clayton Opera House for a show, and making a run across the border for the great Canadian beer we can't get in the US.
We've seen the Northern Lights several times from the porch of Scratch Pad and that never grows old. You can just see the lights of the bridge too. We've taken advantage of all the room around us by flying kites, playing wiffle ball, tossing a frisbee, setting up a volley ball net for a family tournament, tossing lawn darts, or learning to ride bikes. There's plenty of room to do just about anything at Scratch Pad.
