Moose Knob is our little home away from home. Here you’ll have all the creature comforts of city living, but with the peace and quiet of country life. From stunning hikes in Dolly Sods to a cozy evening around the fire, there’s something for everyone - just under 3 hours from D.C. and 3 hours from Pittsburgh.
There’s no cell service, but we have fast Starlink internet.
So bring your family, friends and, of course, your pups to see what we love so much about our side of the mountain.
The space Sitting on the edge of the Monongahela National Forest, Moose Knob is surrounded by 20 acres of hickory trees, mossy rocks and feathery ferns.
Guest access We have a fully stocked kitchen, stocked with everything you would ever need to cook or bake. We also provide a variety of spices and teas. We have chef’s knives, InstaPot, blender, french press, coffee grinder, juicer and a variety of baking and cooking dishes.
We also have a grill on the deck and a fire pit in the yard for roasting s’mores.
Enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine up at our overlook, just a short hike up the road behind the house. For the chillier days, there’s a fire pit up there as well. Or cozy up near the wood stove in the living room and go to town on one of the many puzzles.
Up in the loft, there’s a queen-sized bed, and a cozy chair if you’re looking for a spot to curl up with a book. In the green room, there’s a full bed, and the blue room has a queen. In the living room, the green couch is a sleeper sofa, if you need another full-sized bed.
During the day, there are many options for outdoor activities, from hiking to kayaking to cavern exploring. See our house book for more details on our favorite spots and recommendations.
Other things to note There is no cell service at the house, so please log on to our Starlink wifi to make calls and send texts. We’re on a mountainside, so 4WD is needed in the winter.
Dogs are welcome with an additional cleaning fee.
We provide plenty of firewood. Just help yourself to the wood on the porch. You may want to bring your own starters.
We are a hop, skip and a jump from a number of great hikes and other cool outdoor activities (see our guidebook for our recommendations).

We enjoyed our stay in this peaceful spot! Home is well stocked with everything you will need. Beautiful views and fresh mountain air! The hosts were very responsive any time I needed to check in.
We absolutely loved staying here! The place was just as pictured and described; very tastefully decorated, clean, secluded and quiet, everything you need to cook, and the overlook was indescribable! It rained most of the time we were here, but we had a very relaxing weekend!
We loved how close it was to Dolly Sods. It was a bumpy drive up to the house but the Moose Knob cabin had everything we needed to unwind after a long day hiking. It was very clean and well outfitted.
This cabin was fantastic. It was very clean (our toddler was crawling all over and her pants didn’t turn grey haha), and it had everything we needed. The location was great. I highly recommend an suv or truck to get up to it just because it is a dirt road and a bit bumpy in spots, but we didn’t have to use our 4wd. Communication with the host was also wonderful. I’d definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.
Well appointed. Quiet and secluded location. Close to dolly sods and Seneca rocks. Great views from the overlook.
Nice quiet path for walking.
Well equipped kitchen.
Great internet.
Magical area of west Va. we will be back.
We enjoyed our stay at Moose Knob Cabin, especially the cleanliness, shared space, kitchen setup, comfortable bed, privacy. The online description is target on. Advice: Be sure to consult with the Host(s) to ensure that your car is road worthy for 1 mile on Panther Road that would not be negotiable for all cars.
