This highly energy-efficient home was beautifully designed by local artist and house designer, Frank Lapointe, and completed in 2016 by an award-winning construction crew from Sweet Lumber Ltd.. With its high ceilings and timber frame interior it stands out as a unique coastal home that melds contemporary open design with traditional East Coast saltbox architecture. The home’s great room provides plenty of space - for simply lounging, or entertaining in front of the Norwegian gas fireplace, or enjoying the view from the dining room table for six, or cooking up a storm in the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen. The upper hall entertainment alcove, as well as the great room, each sport a large flatscreen TV with satellite internet and cable service. Free high-speed (250+ Mbps) WIFI internet service is available throughout the home. The two upper bedrooms, which boast floor-to-ceiling view windows and vaulted ceilings, share a full bathroom with double-sink vanity. The master bedroom on the main floor has its own ensuite bathroom. Outside entertaining may be done on the southwest deck, with an adjacent gas grill BBQ for outdoor cooking.

Tuckamore (def.): a strong wind-pruned evergreen found on the top of coastal hills in Newfoundland. Their growth exhibits the distinct character of leaning away from the ocean’s prevailing winds to thrive where others perish.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Trinity East many years ago, coming back year after year to enjoy the hospitality and charm of the local area and its people, and share the experience with family and friends. With its one-road-in and one-road-out access, this was the one place where our children were always able to safely experience the freedom on the land that many from NL cherish as a young children growing up. When we retired, we decided to build our own place so that we could stay longer and have a place where (hopefully) future grandchildren could experience the same. As a small working outport community, Trinity East has a decidedly rural pace, low traffic, and more privacy than that available in Trinity itself during the tourist season. Tuckamore is perched on a bluff which overlooks the immediate outport with views across the bay to Trinity itself. The property is an enchanting two-acre mix of forest and meadow with the occasional sighting of resident fox, snowshoe hare and moose, plus wild raspberries, blueberries and partridge berries available for harvest in season. With access to the famous Skerwink Trail right from your doorstep there can be no better encouragement to experience the best of Newfoundland's spectacular coastline. Day trips from this convenient central location on the Bonavista peninsula have exposed our family and guests to so much of Newfoundland's wonderful theatre, music, art, culture and heritage.

What makes this property unique

One of the reasons we chose to build on this property is the great south-facing panoramic view of Trinity East, the historic town of Trinity, Trinity Harbour and Lighthouse, and some of the giant sea stacks along the coast. We worked with local home designer and neighbour, Frank Lapointe, to fashion our all-season dream home, which harbours all the trapping of contemporary living with a nod to traditional saltbox architecture. The exposed timber frame structure that surrounds you when inside is a visible testament to the skill of the award-winning local crew from Sweet Lumber Ltd. who built the home. Finally, there is comfort in knowing that this home, with its 15-inch exterior walls, was built as one of the most well-insulated and heating-efficient homes on the coast.
