Disliked: Check-in, communication

Host canceled our visit but didn’t update VRBO

I booked a stay through VRBO and received an email a few days before the trip started stating “You are all set for your trip to Cleveland” and listed out check-in and out times along with the address of the property. When we got there I couldn't find any instructions on how to get in so I reached out to VRBO who said they would call the host on my behalf. VRBO representative said I would receive the instructions shortly, but instead I got a message from the host that I didn’t have a booking and someone was already staying there. VRBO doesn’t offer same day bookings, so we had to get a hotel instead. The host wasn’t apologetic or helpful in anyway. When I called VRBO to see what went wrong, they said it was up to the host to properly mark the booking status and that the host failed to do so.

Property was excellent.

Check in process did not go well when we arrived. There was already someone staying there. Apparently someone was given the key code to our place when they should’ve been staying downstairs. Kind of scary to think that the same code was used in both locations.
