The Pacific Crest Trail is right down the road. The Kern River Brewery is in town and has some amazing beer - try the Sequoia Red!My favorite hike to a small waterfall and slide rock is 20 minutes up the road. The Trail of 100 Giants is 30 minutes up the road, a must see if you have never seen the giant Sequoias. Alta Sierra, the local ski resort, is less than thirty minutes away and is very fun in the winter.
I am familiar with many hikes and unique things to do in the area and am more than happy to answer any questions. This has been a magical place for our family and we want our guests to love it too!

The most beautiful place along the river, spacious and accommodating—an amazing place to get back to nature and blissfully rejuvenate. Thank you so much for this incredible space!
Location was excellent but unfortunately it was raining the whole time we were there so we couldn’t really do any outdoor activities. The house was clean and had everything that we needed for our two day stay. I will go there again.
This house on the river is awesome so comfy And everything you need is there.
The home is beautiful, and the store across the street is Convenient I would definitely stay there again
This is our home away from home! Always a blast with the family. We couldn’t say anymore great things about this home. Amazing view, clean, fun, cozy, full kitchen, games for the kids, full library, beach accessories to enjoy by the liver, list can go on and on….We will be back next year ♥️
This property was terrific for our family! Very kid friendly with lots of toys and activities for kids to do both inside and outside. Very comfortable and spacious. Just be aware that the popular Sequoia National Park areas like General Sherman are 3 to 4 hours away.
Our group of 8 women had a very nice stay. All beds were comfortable and the house was right on the river. We enjoyed river rafting from both kern river outfitters and renting tubes at the general store across the street and floating down to the park. Wonderful stay, thank you for having us! Would definitely come back. House is also very kid friendly if you plan to bring kids.
We had a three family gathering with 5 kids 1.5-17 and 6 adults. This place couldn’t have been more perfect for everyone. River beach access out back, and just so much to do and places to hangout around the home and property. This cabin far exceeded everyone’s expectations. The thoughtfulness of kitchen, toy and entertainment options and craftsman’s details throughout the property really made this stay special over 4 days. We would 100% book this cabin again.
The location was awesome. The owner thought of everything when they built this home. The home had everything you would need for cooking knives pans cookie sheets coffee grinder. I would have liked more dishwasher pods( 2 were given for 4 days) and washing machine pods ( 2 pods for 4 days with 5 adults 2 kids2-4 years old.
We will stay here again!!
The property was perfect for our group. Just a suggestion. The walking to the water was dangerous for us older people, probably due to the flooding. Thank you.
5/5 – Peaceful Riverfront Getaway! We had an absolutely amazing stay at this riverside cabin! From the moment we arrived, we were struck by how peaceful and private the setting was. Nestled right along the river, the views were incredible – especially at sunrise and sunset. You can literally hear the water flowing as you relax on the porch or by the firepit. The cabin itself was is spacious yet cozy, clean, and well-stocked with everything we needed. The interior felt warm and inviting, with charming rustic touches, but also had modern conveniences like [Wi-Fi/heating/fully equipped kitchen –laundry room ].One of our favorite parts was spending the evenings outside – grilling, roasting marshmallows, and just enjoying the sounds of nature. We even spotted some wildlife nearby, which made it feel even more like a retreat from the everyday hustle. The hosts were communicative and thoughtful, providing clear directions and great local recommendations. You can tell they’ve put a lot of love into this place. If you’re looking for a quiet escape to nature with all the comforts of home, this cabin is it. We’re already talking about coming back for our next stay.
This is it, Book this house! Custom built property with so many bells and whistles I’m not sure we even discovered them all. The house is very well stocked with every kitchen utensil and toy a family could need. My girls especially enjoyed the Huge sleeping Tee-pee and dipping their toes in the river. My husband appreciated the tri-tip sandwiches at the general store/ cafe across the street. S’mores and fishing and reading a book curled up by the fire….. we will def be back! Also the host was super responsive and easy to plan with.

Best Cabin on the Kern
The Lazy Crane is one of the nicest cabins I have ever stayed in. Right on the river and the master suit bathroom...you kidding me!!
Top class party cabin. The Crane has everything you need to have an epic weekend with Friends or family.
The only negative I can find is the neighbors on both sides are pretty close to you. We stayed up late talking loud and enjoying the stars without complaint.
Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc ? (Beyond expectations)
Was the property clean and well-maintained ? (YES)
Did the owner provide good customer service ? (YES)
Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives ? (YES)

Yearly Family Trip to the Kern
We always wanted to stay @ Lazy Crane. We always stay at the Sequoia Lodge next door and have seen the house over the years. We did enjoy our stay, location is great spot to enjoy the river. There were many amenities with a lot of space and there were also some issues with the non working ice maker and wine refrigerator. Upon our arrival my brother and his wife started unpacking and discovered dog/cat poop on the floor (owner could only say weird?) and the beginning of a rat/mouse nest in the dresser drawer (this is why I rated the cleanliness low). We could hear the rodent at night in the walls/ceiling at, we did realize we were basically in nature, and I reported it to the owner. The lock box was a little difficult to open and we actually found the house unlocked at the side door.
If you are traveling with adults only - the Tipi and bunks are located in a common loft area outside the 3 bedrooms, perfect for the younger visitors. We will always visit the Kern River, not sure if we will stay here, it was okay.
This was a beautiful home. Location is great! Right on the Kern river. Purchased some Tubes across the street and floated down the river. The house has wonderful upgrades and a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. There is a market walking distance that serves smoked tri- tip. The house is perfect for families.
I did have to initiate contact with manager the week before. She did respond promptly and made a nice recommendation of a local restaurant/ brewery.
Absolutely the best vacation home you will find in the area. We were a group of 12 and had everything we needed for an incredible 3 nights.
This is not your typical rental - it is a beautifully decorated and fully stocked home with plenty of room to spread out and relax.
The location can’t be beat. Right on the river with a sand beach literally as your back yard with amazing views.
We will be returning as soon as we can!
This beautiful home was perfect for our mixed group of 10 people. Beds and pillows were comfy, bathrooms and kitchen are luxurious. The patio was comfortable, even in the heat, with the sun shades and ceiling fans. Great river access! The owners were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend and hope to stay there again!

Why they chose this property
My parents purchased this property after we fell in love with the area during a rafting trip. It has been a slow-going labor of love to remodel it and make it what it is today. Many treasured family memories have been made here and we hope your family will make some here too.
