Step back in time to a simpler kind of vacation at our authentic 1950s lakeside cabin, part of the original High Lake Resort community. These classic Northern Michigan cabins were once beloved summer escapes for families seeking fresh air, quiet mornings, and long days on the water — and today, they still offer that same peaceful charm.

Thoughtfully updated with modern comforts but true to their original footprint, this 530 sq ft two‑bedroom cabin is perfect for couples, small families, and anyone who appreciates cozy spaces, vintage character, and the feeling of being tucked away in nature.

These cabins are grandfathered under special zoning, which allows us to continue sharing them while preserving their original size and charm — a rare piece of Northern Michigan history that we are honored to share with those that will appreciate this little piece of Americana.

We had a lovely Winter stay in your cozy cabin on the lake. The hot tub was relaxing. The bed was so comfortable and the location was perfect for dinners out, shopping and hiking. We would 100% stay here again. Thanks to Michelle for great communication and all the nice personal touches like coffee, a bottle of wine and soft comfy robes.

Property was fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for a better location that was close to the city, but just far enough outside to relax and unwind. The lake is beautiful and the bass fishing was great as well. The canoe and kayaks that are available were a nice bonus. The host was responsive during the entire process and communicated with us on a regular basis. The host even gave us some great recommendations on several area restaurants that were great. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

The host was very communicative and offered LOTS of recommendations for visiting Traverse City. The cabin was cute, very clean, and very well stocked with everything we could've wanted for our trip. This cabin is set back from the water. So, if you want to overlook the water, I'd recommend booking the blue cabin instead of the green one.

My family and I love spending time outdoors every season of the year. Living in Michigan, we get to experience all four seasons and we find fun activities outdoors year-round. We love to hike, bike, run, swim in all the amazing lakes Michigan has to offer, kayak, canoe, fish, ski, four wheeling, you name it!

We love hosting people in our cottages because we get to share all of our favorite places and activities with others and when we see pictures of our guests with smiles on their faces, we know we've put something good out into the world!

Why they chose this property

We love the peaceful, quiet neighborhood and our wonderful neighbors!

What makes this property unique

The two cottages at High Lake Retreat are a small part of a cottage community that was platted in the 1920's and built in the 1950's called High Lake Resort. Since then, many of the cottages that made up the community have been bought and torn down in favor of larger homes and few of these original cottages remain. The cottages at High Lake Retreat have had renovations completed to update them for modern conveniences but we have tried to maintain their original 1950's charm. While the cabins are equipped with a TV and streaming services and ultra high speed internet for modern day convenience, when our family visits, we try to remember life in a simpler time when people came to a cottage to relax and spend quality time with their families - and it's this experience that we love to share with others!
