About this property
The Villa - One of the Largest Rental Homes In Town
Sometimes described as a chalet on steroids, this custom built home was intended to be the perfect retirement home for a local builder. It features all kinds of unique and special amenities such as a formal dining room (1 of only 2 in Red River), an outdoor kitchen (huge grill & sink) coupled with a wood-burning fireplace located above the roofline so you can gaze at the mountains or look down on the flower garden, and a 4 car garage (3 available to guests) deep enough to park 8 compact cars! This amazing home, newly redecorated, provides guests with a true taste of luxury: from the new stainless steel appliances and granite countertops in the kitchen to the ice maker and wine chiller in the wet bar to the Jacuzzi tub in the master suite to the new washer/dryer in the huge tiled laundry room (also with a utility sink) to the custom tile work in the kitchen/dining room/breakfast area to the new stain master carpet to the new 60" flat-screen TV in the family room. Every bedroom is decorated with its own theme, features 800 thread count sheets, and the thickest, warmest blankets you've ever seen for those cold winter nights. The top floor features 5 bedrooms--one master king suite, a second king master, and 3 comfy queen rooms--each with its own TV. The master suite or Captain's Quarters (decorated with Indian decor including a Pendleton wool blanket spread) sleeps 2 and has a private balcony, a large master bath with a Jacuzzi tub, and a large dressing room with cedar lined closets. Two twin cats in the dressing room accommodate smaller children or even petite adults. The second master (the Artist's Room) sleeps 4 in a new king plus queen sleeper sofa. It too has a private balcony plus an in-room sink and electric recliner. A mix of cowboy and Indian decor, this room contains original artwork by a local artist, a Pendleton Indian blanket spread, and bright colors. The "Cross" Room (sleeps 2) shares a large bath with the second master. The faux-suede bedding, flat-screen TV, and wall decorated with unique crosses from around the world provide a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere that perfectly fits the Indian worshipping the Great Spirit in the picture over the bed. The Bear Room (sleeps 2), done in hunter greens and rich woody browns, shares a large bath with the Wolf room. The "bear" artwork, from the tapestry bedspread to multiple pictures to a giant wall hanging to 3 wall hooks to the lamps, showcases mothers, cubs, and large males in various scenes and poses, including acute tiny cub perched atop an old tree stump. The Wolf Room (sleep 2) next door, in soothing shades of blue and green, greets guests with an ever so soft blanket/spread and various wolf decor, including one picture of an intense blue-eyed wolf looking right at the bed with his penetrating gaze. Main floor sleeping arrangements include the Cowboy Bunk Room (sleeps 6 in a twin bunk set and a queen bunk set), a second family room (known as the Buffalo Room--sleeps 4 on 2 new queen sleepers), and the sun porch (sleeps 2 on a double futon). The TV in the Bunk Room is functional only for video games brought by guests--bring your own hookups. Other features worth noting are the fully stocked kitchen (spices, Keurig [bring your own K-cups], 2 crock pots, 2 coffee makers, a large wok, lots of large pots, and more), a full outdoor balcony on the main floor with plenty of seating and a grill, a gas log stove in the Buffalo Room, a "landing" on the winding staircase to the upper outdoor area, and an extra frig in the garage for overflow food and drinks. Finally, the Great Room (really!) will impress you with the 2 large rocking chairs in front of the huge wood-burning fireplace topped by an Indian headdress, the massive 60" flat-screen TV with its "surround" seating of 3 sofas and multiple chairs, the numerous skylights, and the 2-story vaulted ceiling surrounded by the second-floor balcony. Truly a luxury home for those who appreciate the finer things in life. Since this grand old lady sleeps 24, it is the perfect place for a wedding, a family reunion, or another special event. If Villa is already rented during your preferred dates, check out the other fabulous properties by the same owner: Running Bear River Lodge (sleeps 24) and Birds and Bears Retreat (sleeps 16), both located on the river. About the host
Hosted by Red River Real Estate

I love to travel and see the world, but when it gets really hot in Texas, it is time to go to the mountains. Although I have visited all 7 continents, there is something about Red River that has captured my imagination. Perhaps it is the friendly town. Perhaps the cool mountain air and stunning views. Perhaps it is my encounters with wildlife: deer, elk, bear, wild turkey, squirrels, birds, you name it. Perhaps it is finding out that my great great grandfather visited here during the mining heyday and invested in the community. Perhaps it is the wealth of history and the charm of an old mining town that has reinvented itself. Now that I'm retired, I like to bring my 3 dogs for a month in the summer where we hike together and explore together in my 4WD. I find the peaceful atmosphere conducive to writing the book I'm working on. I hope you will enjoy my townhouses as much as I've enjoyed decorating them and sharing them with other travelers.
Why they chose this property
A friend invited me to visit her townhouse when I was going through a tough period in my life. I fell in love with the friendly town, the wildlife, the mountains and cool summer weather. Since it is only 10 hours from my home, I decided it was time to buy a place and explore further. Every time I come, I find something new to see or do. I recently found out about my great great grandfather's experience here by buying an old newspaper in one of the gift shops. I suppose I have a genetic connection to this place!
What makes this property unique
Words cannot adequately describe the feeling of sitting on the balcony with a cup of hot chocolate, watching the sun turn the mountains from gray to pink to glowing red. For the early riser, one might see bears wandering through the nearby creek on their way to the river or deer munching on the bushes. On the other hand, if you are a nightlife person, the two local bars provide great live music!
