This property was fabulous and exceeded our expectations. We have older kids in their 20s all the way to age 9, and they all loved it. It is a perfect spot for a family get away. We loved how they preserved much of the original house while also updating it. It is so cute and so charming. The marina is also so so close making it so easy to drop the boat. We will be back. We give this a 5 !

Hated to leave! There was so much to enjoy...nice fire pit, fishing from shore, lots of wildlife, room for all nine of us. Modern amenities like dishwasher and washer/dryer were wonderful . Was a delightful surprise to see unexpected improvements like an additional bedroom and full upstairs bathroom. Bring right on the water is important to us and this cottage really delivered that. Quiet and private. We will treasure the memories made at this delightful cottage in Hessel.

Can’t beat the location for the boat show but this place really needs a good cleaning inside the house and outside in the yard. Very few windows open, so if you want fresh or cool air there isn’t any. On a positive side a couple rooms have been updated.

This place has million dollar views! We loved having a boat house to shelter our boat, We had 3 couples and were very comfortable. The hosts were very attentive to our needs.If it were my place, I'd add a door to the upstairs bath/bedroom to make it more usable. But not a deal breaker for us. Maybe that's on their list of future improvements, I assume.

Fun fall stay in Les Cheneaux

A charming and unique place on its own little peninsula with views of islands and the Hessel marina. It is an older house but it's been updated with enough modern amenities to make our long weekend comfortable and convenient. We enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets, a camp fire, and easy strolls to town for the Sunday market at the historic school and the Islander restaurant.

We had a wonderful week! There was lots of room inside for board games and puzzles and just being together. There was lots of room outside for playing yard games, relaxing by the shore, and grilling. This property is large and tranquil. There were 5 of us along with 2 dogs, and there was plenty of room. The house is older, and has its quirks, but it all just adds to the charm and character of the whole package. We had a great time.

Rustic and private get away

We love the quiet and rustic charm of the house. It was private and very quiet. The stars at night were incredible. Lindsay, Greg , and Billy were so accommodating. We rented a pontoon and went for rides and fished. You could walk to the culinary school and the Islander bar and grill, both were very good. It is rustic and quiet and that was what we wanted.

Like staying at Auntie’s house

The house was cozy and comfortable, and had everything we needed. It’s older but clean, quaint and functional. Kind of like staying at an elderly Aunt’s house! The floors are a bit wonky, but it adds to the charm. The land and beaches are just gorgeous. You cannot beat the view! We brought our kayaks and put them in the bay on calm days, and the pond on windy days. We used the outdoor fire pit every evening, and had excellent star-gazing weather.

Gorgeous location!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this cottage in Hessel. The location was perfect...water everywhere, very private, yet within walking distance to town. The cottage was spacious with lots of windows overlooking the lake and we were very comfortable. There were new appliances in the kitchen, although I would recommend an upgrade to the pots and pans. The boathouse was a great feature! We were just able to jump in our boat and go! We also had three meals of fresh-caught fish, right from the boathouse. We enjoyed the beach (bring water shoes) and the fire pit. I recommend breakfast at the Nibble Lungen in Hessel and their Joker's Point coffee. Lindsay and her dad were very responsive and very hospitable. We would definitely enjoy staying here again!

It is a dump located in a great location. Garage sale furniture, mishmash of old utensils, few if any kitchen tools, half the faucets had only cold water, broken windows, mouse in kitchen, centipede in bathroom, sloped floors, dirty and decrepit outbuildings, too shallow water for some boats to enter boat house, a dirty oven, and a very old and dirty and shredded American flag flying from the flagpole. Nice views though!

Beautiful and Secluded

The location of this property and friendliness of the owners more than makes up for anything else it might be lacking. The views across the lake, the water lapping up on the rocks right by the house, the short walk into Hessel, the shaded areas for relaxing, and the view from the picture windows all make this house an excellent find. The equipment in the kitchen (appliances excepted) was rather old and not very easy to use. I’d recommend bringing a few pots and/or skillets of your own. It wasn’t terribly clean either. Nothing that was out of the ordinary for a rental but I did feel the need to wash the dishes and wipe down the kitchen before using any of it. The house could use a deep cleaning to get under the cushions, in the corners and cabinets, etc but over all it was very neat, not cluttered, and there was plenty of space. Honestly, not one bit of that would prevent me from staying here again if we were in the area. Lindsay was the only person I had contact with and she was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions. Check in and out was about as easy as it gets and we really wanted for nothing while there. Thank you so much for letting us stay on this beautiful piece of property while we explored the Eastern UP!

Unique location but missed the mark for us a bit

We have used vrbo and airbnb quite a bit and this property had a hard time finding us comfortable. It is fairly rustic. No cable tv (antenna works) or wifi which is fine. There is no inside kitchen. Eating is picnic table outside. The property is 90% still non rennovated since the 60s or 70s so it is very dated and as a result sort of dirty especially the flooring. Kitchenware same concept it is like camp ware. No central air or heat and it was chilly a couple evenings so we had to use space heaters which dont mix well with 3 and 4 year olds. There was also an exposed socket with no plate cover. Tons of dead bugs inside near bed. Could use heavy pro cleaning. The owner also showed up three times unannounced to use his boathouse. We never felt privacy as a result. Really odd. Beach is in downtown hessel the beach at property is very rocky and slippery to use for kids. Pros: property itself is very spacious. House has lots of character. Downtown hessel is very charming and has some awesome food choices. Boathouse is awesome. Location is awesome. Probably good for couple without kids.

Beautiful Location

This property is gorgeous. Rustic cottage with minor issues that you would expect in an old cottage. The view was amazing and the ower was very responsive, even brought us over a large kettle to cook many ears of corn. The upstairs toilet started to leak at the end of the stay.

Check in was terrible. Never got the code to unlock the door. We were told they would send us the code and never did. Called several times went to voice mail. 3 hrs later got the code. Also hornets nest in boat house Monday or Tuesday they came out with one can of spray only. There were 3 or more nests. Kids and dogs got bit. Yes old house. Went to dollar store to get mugs for coffee only had tea cups. Also had a sewer smell in house. If you used the upstairs bathroom and if you did any laundry whole house would smell. Fireplace we don't think anyone should use it because there is no fire wall behind the exhaust stack and thru wall into master bedroom and up thru closet upstairs to the roof. We enjoyed having our adult kids with us and our dogs

Great view, rustic cottage

The property was great, the cottage was rustic. We enjoyed our stay and the area, the cottage could use some attention, overall it was nice and accommodations were adequate. If some of the windows opened and had screens it would be beneficial. We would stay again.
