Kathy delighted you had a great time while staying at the 1849 Quarters. Mary and I look forward to your future return. We also should have the upstairs unit on line this next week.
There for a conference with another business owner. The location was outstanding, and the unit was appointed very nicely. It was a quick walk to everything, and the morning train coming by was the best surprise! The bed was very comfortable, too, and the pullout couch worked well for my friend. Private parking was a bonus. Our only suggestions would be a floor towel to drop in front of the shower and extra washclothes/towels, too. Otherwise, our stay was fantastic! We will be back for sure.
Nicole, thanks so much for your review. We are very proud of this unit and its finish and furnishings, We have tried to maintain the historic feel for the building and interior mixing with antiques and up to date appliances and finishes. Always delighted for responses on the unit. Thanks for staying at the 1849 Quarters and we hope you will return in the future.
Great location just a block away from downtown restaurants and shops. It's a beautifully renovated property, and we enjoyed reading about its history. Kitchen is well stocked with supplies for light cooking.

Thanks Ali for your kind review we also love the location of the Quarters. One of the primary reasons we purchased the property was the opportunity to restore the building to to federal and state standards and we are very proud that we were approved by both the state and the National Park Service.
Great location—everything from shops to restaurants is just a short walk away. The stay was welcoming, offering all the listed amenities and even a few thoughtful extras. Despite the modern upgrades, the property beautifully preserves its historic charm.

In restoring 301 Hancock we wer very aware of the obligation of retaining as much as possible of the original elements of the original structure while updating the interior. Much of the Millwork is original and or exact replica of original. We are always pleased when guests recognize this effort.
The apartment is lovely. We love that you can park your car and walk to the riverfront and restaurants. (Morgan’s Tavern is our favorite!) We would definitely book again!
Great location, beautiful apartment and absolutely perfect for our needs. Everything is within walking space. Keep in mind that it is on the street, so you will hear people talking, and because of the area, there are lights on all night, so it never really gets dark ( but I’m a country person so those things probably wouldn’t bother others). Also, the ghost tour stops every night in the drive across the street, which I thought was cool, but probably not for everyone. The hosts were great to work with and responded in a timely manner to questions. We would, absolutely, stay again!!

Tania,
Thanks so much for the positive review, this unit does have an in-town street scene vibe but this is some of its charm plus it is only one block from downtown as well as within the historic corridor of New Bern. We look forward to your returning to stay.
We have visited New Berns usually every 3 months for several years. This home is the perfect getaway for us. Charles and Mary were the perfect host and always responded to any questions both before and during our stay. The home is lovely. The living room is quite generous, as is the kitchen. The bathroom features a lovely walk in shower. When Charles and Mary had this revamped they did a tremendous job in tying in the historic features but providing modern luxury. The induction range was a surprise and since I love to cook it proved to be a real treat. Probably one of the most important thing to my husband and me is Location. This was the best spot we ever stayed at. We could easily access the river walk; was walkable to every wonderful restaurant in New Bern, could enjoy the beauty of the historic homes...and the list goes on. Would I stay here again? You bet. We will be booking a fall visit in the near future.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The apartment kept the ambiance and charm of the time of the time period, but it still had the modern conviences. It was nicely decorated without being stuffy. The kitchen could use a couple more plates, steak knives and a colander. Every time we made dinner we had to run the dishwasher because we were short of plates and utensils. The kitchen itself is gorgeous and has top of the line appliances. The apartment is a close drive to grocery stores and B&J Seafood (fresh and so reasonably priced). This place is walking distance to everywhere in the historic area and downtown! The only real complaint we had was noise. Saturday night there were a group of young people across the street for about an hour. Upon looking at what was going on, it appeared they were taking photos of some type of paranormal activity on the second floor. Sunday afternoon the property was been mowed for at least 3 hours. Monday morning some other property being mowed, tree limbs behind cut down, garbage trucks, etc. Then there is traffic. Hubby and I live in a rural area, so please keep that in mind.
