About this property
Madera Canyon home w/ spectacular mountain view
Fully Furnished 1 Bdr/2 Bath + loft in Madera Canyon surrounded by the Coronado National Forest. Fabulous porch with swing, glider and room to feed the whole family while watching hummingbirds at your feeder. One of a kind woodwork 'makes' this home. 1326 sf of indoor living space. Central AC/heat. Full kitchen. Property is walking distance to trailheads, picnic areas and favorite birdwatching spots. It all adds up to the best place for an extended stay in Madera Canyon.
If you are traveling with friends, please check out my property next door that sleeps 2. It's called Creekside Madera Canyon Cabin.
Please note: There is no TV reception (we do have a dvd player). Satellite Internet is provided (but may be slower than you are used to and is subject to weather outages). This is a remote property. Your cell phone will have limited connectivity in the canyon (Verizon works best, but we suggest you set up wifi calling on your phone). There is a landline in the cabin. While there are two gift stores in the canyon, the next closest businesses are 15 miles away. I recommend you get gas and stop at the grocery store before you drive into the canyon. Don't forget to buy a bag of sugar to make syrup to feed the hummingbirds!
Please note there is NO washing machine for guest use.

It's difficult to imagine a better place to spend an extended vacation (a month in our case). Regardless of the weather outside (and in February we've seen it from 10 degrees to nearly 80). This beautiful hand-built cabin has all the amenities you need to take advantage of Madera Canyon recreational opportunities. Or just hang out on the deck and watch the birds. It doesn't get any better than this.
The host was very kind and kept us well-informed. The house was AMAZING. Interesting woodwork all throughout. Two decks, one small one off the upstairs and the large one off the main floor. Lots of birds. Absolutely beautiful area. Even enjoyed staying in and soaking up the outdoors. But close to everything—trails, parks, museums, restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, the Tucson airport—everything a traveler needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We have stayed at this property 5 or 6 times. It is simply a wonderful place for the birds that visit the feeders, for the view from the deck, and for the well-supplied pantry of spices.
Another great stay. We had every type of weather - which we like. Wonderful birds and mammals. This is absolutely the best base camp for exploring Madera Canyon.
The cabin is a really wonderful place. The porch overlooks nearly the entire canyon, with great views of the mountain and birds flying by. I put up bird feeders that were provided and lots of beautiful hummingbirds, grosbeaks, woodpeckers, and finches came to the feeders. The inside of the cabin has everything that you need for a great relaxing vacation.
This is perhaps our fifth visit to this property, and, as always, our stay was wonderful. The bird feeders were always busy and the sunsets on the deck a perfect way to end the day. We are already reserved for next year.
This is our 3rd or 4th stay in this wonderful house. We are already booked for next year! As aways, the funishings are very comfortable, the view is indeed "spectacular" and the birds are very cooperative and appreciateve of nectar and seed. I really cannot say enough good things about the property, location, and manager.
We had another great stay up in Madera Canyon at HH. It's really nice to see all the new improvements since our last stay. The new paved road to the house is greatly appreciated. We had a wonderful time with the birds and other wildlife at the house. It's a truly unique place to stay and take in the beauty of Madera Canyon.
We love the property and its location. We've been coming since 2019 and come back once or twice a year. Perfect for birding and hiking, as well as exploring other attractions in the area. The house is clean and well stocked with kitchen essentials.
The visual isolation of this property provided an excellent way to experience solitude, which was one of the things I was looking for. I also went there to photograph hummingbirds and other wildlife and it delivered in every way. I look forward to returning soon.
This is our fifth or sixth stay at the property. It is absolutely as advertised and absolutely wonderful -- a great place to stay for a week and unwind (or bird watch if you have to). Even more highly recommended than before.
Whether you come to Madera Canyon for solitude and relaxation, or to challenge yourself with all the physical activities that abound here, Hummingbird Hill is the perfect place to stay Gather with friends for a hike, or birdwatch from the amazing deck There's a happy place for all here. This was our 7th month-long stay here, and we are already planning for next year It's a very special place.
This is our sixth or seventh year of staying at Hummingbird Hill for a week in late spring or early summer. The birds are always a treat (surely everyone mentions the trogons). It is isolated, quiet, relaxing. We'll be back again next year.
Another wonderful visit in Madera Canyon at Hummingbird Hill. The accommodations are well kept and well stocked. Our host, Molly, is easy to get in touch with if necessary. The house is situated within walking distance to hiking trails and birding spots. We always look forward to our stay and are coming back next year. We highly recommand staying here.
Hummingbird Hill is a charming home full of history and family warmth. Located above 5000 feet in Madera Canyon, a large wrap around deck provides a perfect location to watch the variety of birds found in this part of Arizona. Hiking trails are nearby in case you can bring yourself to leave the view!
Weather was perfect in the canyon. 20 dergrees cooler than in town. Great views. Lots of hummers, jays, and woodpeckers. Had a great time .house was wonderful and equipt very well.
It was so lovely to return to this very special, unique and peacefully place. Although never a dull moment with the vast range of birds that visited our balcony, which included humming birds and even a wild Turkey. Not to forget the coatimundi!!!!
We love being in Madera Canyon at Hummingbird Hill. It's a perfect place to watch the world go by, hike, bird, and launching out on day trips to catch that perfect picture of that one migrating bird not seen at home. Both houses on Molly's property are comfortable, well stocked and clean. There are of course frequent visitors: coatimundis, squirrels, and of course birds.

About the host

I spent summers in Tucson, Arizona with my grandparents as a little girl. They had a small cabin in Madera Canyon - one of only a handful of private homes - and my sister and I loved going there on the weekends and playing in the creek or hiking the trail to Mt. Wrightson. As an adult I have returned to visit my grandparents many times with my children to introduce them to the jewel that is Madera Canyon. The photo is of my grandfather blowing bubbles with my daughter off the edge of the porch.
Why they chose this property
In 1992 my grandparents built the current home which they nicknamed Hummingbird Hill. It sits at a high spot in the canyon which lends itself to beautiful mountain views, sunsets and hummingbird watching. It was their dream retirement home. I have recently inherited it and can't bear to part with it - not only because of the memories but also because of the unique building and location. My husband and I are not able to move to the canyon right now as we have jobs out of state, but hope it can become our dream retirement home as well.
What makes this property unique
The home itself was custom built by Richard Lansky. You won't believe the detailed woodworking. Take a careful look at the photo gallery. Richard still lives in the canyon and helps me with maintenance. The location is also amazing. Madera Canyon is a natural gem and it is minimally developed so you will have tons of opportunities to enjoy nature. The cabin is on private property but borders Coronado National Forest land on all sides. There are a handful of residents in the canyon and it is a popular weekend spot for people from Tucson so you will not be completely alone, but there's still plenty of space for solitude. I love some of the local businesses that rent out by the night, but this is truly the best place for an extended stay.
