About this property

“Dutch Harbor”-Mack City, November reduced nightly rate and 2 night minimum

This cozy cottage is the largest of 3 on a large wooded lot on the west side of town. Outside is a park like setting with firepits, charcoal grill, and outdoor seating. A large deck is perfect for family meals or just relaxing. It was completely renovated in 2013 (with smaller updates since) with a cottage theme in color and décor. The full kitchen includes a dishwasher and is equipped to prepare all your meals. It has 1 1/2 baths which include a washer and dryer. There are 2 bedrooms- each has a queen bed. The living room has a tv with cable, books and games. (NOTE- the loft is no longer available for sleeping). The cheery back porch has a day bed with trundle- perfect for reading or taking a nap. This comfortable cottage is well suited for families of all ages, couples, and business travelers as internet is included. An added benefit is that all 3 cottages on this large property can be rented for larger groups/families.
There is much to see and do with in walking distance- from shops, restaurants and ferries to Mackinac Island to beaches and hiking trails. And just a short drive away is The Headlands (a dark sky park), Wilderness State Park, M119 Tunnel of Trees, and the famous Mackinac Bridge leading to the beautiful Upper Peninsula.

Vacation Fun

What an adorable cabin. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. The cabin was nice and clean. Our only “room for improvement “ is the living room furniture was miserably uncomfortable and needs to be upgraded. We would stay again. Overall better than expected. Thank you.

Sisters trip!

The property was just like the photos online! We had colder weather so we didn’t get to use the deck. The cabin was walking distance to almost everything!

We loved everything about Dutch Harbor cottage. It was adorable and spotless with so much attention to detail. We have to accommodate special diets (vegetarian, gluten-free) so do most meals ourselves to also stay “budget friendly” which is why I SO appreciated the nice quality cookware! Not the usual hodgepodge of peeling teflon coated pans that we find in other places we’ve stayed. The location was convenient to everything we wanted to do. Walking distance to cute shops, and the ferry to Mackinac Island. However, we drove 15 minutes across the bridge to St. Ignace to take the “Classic” ferry since we had 4 Adult tickets to buy and even with the parking and tolls, we saved over 40, plus we wanted to check out St. Ignace and experience the bridge anyway. The only thing I would have changed is I wish we had booked a longer stay. Next time!Be sure to check out the photo book in the cottage detailing the renovation. You’ll be amazed!
Best spot to relax and read a book.

Charming Cabin

This remodeled cabin was not only comfortable but tastefully decorated. The outdoor deck provided a peaceful spot amidst the beautiful flowers and hosta. The beach was several blocks away… beautiful sunsets. This was an ideal location.

Perfect cottage for the family

My daughter, two granddaughters and I enjoyed staying at the cottage between sightseeing in the city, island and go over the bridge to the up. There was enough space for the four of us after a busy day. Location was fabulous to go across the Mackinaw bridge to spend time in the UP or go to Mackinaw Island and walk to Mackinaw City to all the shops.

Mackinac City Cottage

Clean, great location, adequate for our family of 5. Nice deck, good to have more than one bathroom and access to washer/dryer. The loft ladder is tall and at a steep pitch. We did not use that area; our kids were not comfortable on the ladder and it would have been dangerous for any night time bathroom trips. Drawbacks: Beds, couch, and chairs were NOT comfortable. It didn't bother the kids, but the adults lacked a good night sleep the whole week. Some of the dishes were not clean when taking them off the shelf.

Cute, private cottage & close to all the action!

Our family of 6 enjoyed staying at this cozy, quiet cottage! If we ever visit the area again, we will be sure to rent the same cottage, along with the other 2 properties behind the cottage (all owned by the same people) and invite extended family! The cottage was small, but decorated nicely with enough beds for everyone. It is hard to tell in the pictures posted by the owners, but the twin beds in the upstairs loft are actually real twin beds....just make sure whomever chooses to sleep up there isn't afraid of a steep ladder. Lol. The railing was secure, however! I probably wouldn't let little ones up in the loft because of the ladder, but it was perfect for my teenagers! The laundry/half bath came in quite handy, and the other full bathroom was used every night. The owners informed us to spread out our showers so that we all would have plenty of hot water, but it was never an issue for us. We did as they suggested and it worked out great! This cottage is a short walk to the tourist shops, local grocery, and ferry in Mackinaw City. The two older teenagers walked to town quite a bit in the evenings for a post-dinner walk. We cooked our meals in the cottage kitchen quite a bit, and had almost everything we needed. The only thing I would suggest is a better quality skillet, and maybe more grilling tools and a bucket for the ashes from the grill (there was only one grilling utensil). The fire pit was also a great addition that we made sure to use! Seriously though, I am pretty picky and this place was great! You can tell the owners care about their cottage and their guests. As far as things to do, we took the Star Line Ferry to Mackinaw Island one day and walked around, took a carriage ride, rode bikes, shopped and ate. Another day we went to the church around the corner (again within walking distance), visited McGulpin Point and enjoyed the view of the Straits of Mackinaw and skipped rocks, took an afternoon dip in the clear waters found at First (?) Beach at Wilderness State Park, threw axes in the Mackinaw City shopping center (the kids and hubby loved that!), ate at Rusted Spoke Brewing (smoked wings are amazing!), and took a drive over the Mackinaw Bridge just out of curiosity (and discovered that side of the bridge is more for the serious nature lovers...fishing, boating, etc.). All in all, it was a nice, short trip. We would definitely recommend staying at this place again!

The cottage has lots of character and everything needed for our 3 day stay. It was especially nice to look through the photo album to see the beginning and end remodel project which was nicely done by Todd and Jackie. Lots of attention to detail. The cottage was very clean and with abundant basic supplies. Excellent cottage stay. Thank you Todd and Jackie

We bought this property in 2011 after riding by (and ignoring) it for years. Then we spent the next 22 months gutting and remodeling all 3 cottages ourselves in our "spare time" as we live 4 hours away down state. We wanted a place we could enjoy with our children who were growing up and would be bringing spouses and their families up north someday.
This place brings us lots of joy as we spend time in our favorite places in Michigan- Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island with our favorite people.

Why they chose this property

This property gave us the rooms we wanted to have family and friends stay with us, the space to be outside and have campfires while being just a short walk to town. We are close to the action, but have our own quiet getaway.

What makes this property unique

With 3 cottages on one large property, family can stay with us but have their own cottage. A group of veterans and their wives was able to stay here for a reunion- with a total of 5 bedrooms and daybed on the back porch of one cottage this group had a great week together. The large oaks and maples provide shade and beauty.
