About this property
Pet-Friendly Acorn Cottage. Our cottage is our home - you'll feel at home too!
This is a cozy two-bedroom cottage located right on crystal-clear, sandy-bottom, all-sports Paradise Lake, with your own private decks and dock. Two separate bedrooms and a futon sofa can accommodate six people. There is a local marina and bait shop on the lake for all of your boating and fishing needs, and the fantastic Carp Lake General Store for snacks, supplies, and unique treats! And don't miss out on fabulous meals at the Harbor Lights Grille, just 2 miles down the road, as well as the "hidden gem" known as Clyde's Bar! You can bring your own boat and launch it down the street at the DNR ramp and then park the boat right outside the cottage at our private dock. We also have a 27-foot pontoon available for rent for your entire stay at our cottage. Fishing is excellent year-round.
The Acorn Cottage is centrally located at the Tip of the Mitt, just 5 minutes from Mackinaw City, Mackinaw Island Ferries, museums, historic Fort Michilimackinac, lighthouses, and Mill Creek. About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Schafer

The "Acorn Cottage" named itself when we were looking it over to buy it 2 decades ago. We looked under the mattress in one of the bedrooms and discovered ten neat little rows of "stashed" acorns. We opened the dresser drawer, and there were more acorns. We checked the attic space, and there were more acorns. Everywhere we looked . . . more acorns! The local chipmunks had quite the feast stored for the winter. You'll see a few of those acorns in an air-tight jar on the fireplace mantel. Now, the chipmunks still store their acorns, but outside the cottage, not inside!
Why they chose this property
Our cottage is in the little town of Carp Lake, MI. We have enjoyed vacationing in this area for 30 years. We find the peaceful and tranquil area of Mackinaw very rejuvinating.
This beautiful woodland area offers great natural peace. We found Acorn Cottage as we were looking for a retirement home in Northern Michigan. The entire "Tip of the Mitt" area is rich in history with so much to do. Go for a peaceful walk, ride bikes along the quiet roadways and trails, enjoy both sunrises and sunsets from the back porch and 2 decks, or dip your toes into the shallow, soft sandy lakeshore around the dock.

What makes this property unique
Acorn Cottage is surrounded by quiet, natural beauty. You can listen to the unique sound of the loons on the lake. A pair of bald eagles make their home in the nature preserve nearby. In the evening, sit on the dock and watch the sunset. Take a boat ride on the pontoon. The fishing is great on the lake, for pike, bass, and perch. If you want to go hiking, Wilderness State Park is just a few miles away.
There are plenty of hiking trails to walk or drive along the road and see the woodland and lakeshore beauty. The sand dunes are also just a few miles away. Go to dinner at Audie's in Mackinaw City or Legg's Inn in Cross Village, and on your way enjoy the sand dunes and beach shoreline of the Straits of Mackinac. You can walk for miles on open beach along the Straits of Mackinac. If it's shopping you enjoy, go to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island and spend the day (or more). There is plenty to do around our cottage. So go relax, and enjoy.
