About this property

Waterfront loft apartment with Mountain View

Newly built loft apartment down a private road on the shores of Taunton Bay, with views of Cadillac Mountain and other peaks on Mount Desert Island (MDI). Easy access to Acadia National Park (24 miles), Bar Harbor & MDI, but away from the hustle and bustle. Unique, tranquil location near Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula (20 miles), Frenchman’s Bay Conservancy hiking areas, the Downeast Sunrise Trail, the "Bold coast" and the many ponds and lakes of Franklin, Eastbrook and Sullivan.

This new loft apartment, above our shop, has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a spacious open concept kitchen, living room and dining area, as well as a private deck, all with fantastic views. *Please note that you must climb 18 stairs to access the loft. Due to the open staircase and balcony 20 feet off the ground, the loft is not child-proof, and for that reason we do not allow children under the age of 6.

The loft has a private entrance (accessed by a key in a lockbox) and a covered parking area. There are 3 heat pumps in the unit for heating and cooling. Smart TV, WIFI, and books and games for rainy or lazy days. Essentials provided: toiletries, all linens, coffee, tea, common spices and kitchen implements. Washer and dryer, and ample closet and storage space. Guide to local attractions, maps and suggestions for things to do, places to eat, nearby shops and services.

The property is close to Acadia National Park, the downeast “bold” coast, many areas for fishing, hiking, swimming and paddling. Feel free to bring your own canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, or you can rent them nearby. We have private shore access (though you’ll need to pay attention to the tides) and can tell you about our favorite local ponds which do not see large crowds.

Taunton Bay is nationally recognized as a significant tidal estuary, supporting shellfish harvesting (clams, lobsters, and crabs), sea run fish harvesting (elvers, alewives, and river herring), oyster aquaculture, and seaweed harvesting. The variety of marine life attracts many species of birds, both resident and migratory. In early May several species of fish migrate up the stream adjacent to our property to spawn in Great Pond – this run of fish attracts ospreys and eagles, as well as seals, to the cove, making late spring one of the most active bird-watching times.

Guests have exclusive use of the apartment, attached deck, a private entrance and covered parking. There is water access at the cove on the front edge of our property, on the north side of the loft.

Beautiful place on the water in Maine

This property was immaculate! Host thought of absolutely everything that we could’ve possibly needed during our stay. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked. The welcome basket with all of the goodies was a nice touch. It was entertaining to watch fishermen collect clams every morning & the bald eagles flying overhead. The Mountain views were spectacular as well. The trip into ANP & Bar Harbor was not bad either. Would definitely recommend this property.

The rental met or exceeded our expectations in every way. The unit was in immaculate condition and supplied with many "extra" items that made our stay easier and more enjoyable. The supply and quality of glasses, dishware and cooking utensils is usually an issue with a rental, but not at all in this case. The view from the deck and the quiet of the night are two things that first come to mind when I recall our stay.We have spent many, many summers in various parts of Maine over several decades and I don't think we have had such a totally satisfying stay as we did here.
A five minute walk from the house. A peaceful place to sit and enjoy the view.

This is a truly special place (one that you almost don't want to review so you can feel like it's your little secret).Aimee and David are wonderful and thoughtful hosts. The property is very well appointed, including all the tools you think you might need and then additional touches that exceed expectations. There was a lovely welcome basket and sweet note when we arrived. Aimee went above and beyond to ensure I had a comfortable stay despite my fragrance sensitivity (providing fragrance- and dye-free soaps). My husband and I shared this trip with my parents, and we appreciated the layout with bedrooms on opposite sides and a great communal space for meals, conversation, and games in the center. The balcony is an absolute dream with gorgeous views and a lovely breeze. Mount Desert Island and Schoodic didn't disappoint, but driving back each day brought a much-needed calm after being surrounded by tourist crowds (and we are technically here before the summer peak). I would run out of words long before I could truly express how much we enjoyed our time here, and we will certainly stay again if visiting this area in the future (or plan another trip here just as an excuse to call this our temporary home again). Quiet, serene, peaceful relaxation... I promise that is what you will find here. I am departing with a clear head and a grateful heart.

My husband David and I have collectively lived in Maine for over 70 years. I moved downeast in 2006 after 20 years of vacationing in Maine and living in Chicago; David moved "home" to Maine after a childhood of moving around for his father's military service. I am an administrator at a local nonprofit, and David is in construction.

Downeast Maine is a beautiful area; we feel lucky to live here and love to share it with others!
