About the host
Hosted by Frank & Nilda Bienes
My permanent residence is in the USA. I have a husband and son who I depend on to work all together for our family's business to succeed. We travel back and forth to Costa Rica as to over see this property and our property next door to it, Mapi's Cabins.
Why they chose this property
We chose this property because it's a simple typical Tico house and wanted to keep it as original as possible. So, we just upgraded some things to keep it aesthetically pleasing and functional and kept it basic and simple, as to pass along the savings to you. Most want to put their money towards the adventure and not pay more than what they have to for just a cozy place to sleep.
What makes this property unique
Its LOCATION is the most unique of all, it's not only nearby your staples: markets, clinic, gas station, Bank, Sodas etc. but also beautiful serene beaches from the Bay with some having dark sand and some others have light sand or see the seasonal whale or dolphin watching, Island hopping and a little further out you have Tambor, Santa Teresa, Mal Pais or Montezuma for surfer waves which you can conveniently get there by BUS!
Curu Reserve has about 9 hiking trails which you'll enjoy discovering native wildlife: deer, monkies, iguanas etc. and has easy access to Curu Beach.
Turismo Curu, which is a boat tour company, its office is in the town of Paquera but their boat excursions go out from Curu Beach (from inside Curu Reserve). They offer snorkeling/diving on the way to the beautiful tourist friendly Island of Isla Tortuga or other Beach tours like to the natural Quesera Beach but because they work out of Curu Reserve, they ADD the additional entry fee of Curu Reserve to their packages, which if you don't have time to see the Reserve, it's non-refundable...
I suggest, the most cost-effective, is to see the best of both worlds doing morning hikes in Curu when it's cooler and most animals are active and then take your boat excursions in the afternoon with Turismo Curu. They also offer ONLY 7AM pick up approximately $2 per person, each way with reservation.
Another Boat Tour option is Bahia Rica Tours, that work out of Cuchillo Beach, located next to Paquera Ferry. They don't work out of Curu, so they don't ADD on the Curu Reserve entry fees and dedicate another day, to just see Curu Reserve...
Don't miss, what most describe as "magical", the night bioluminescence waters! Swimming at Cuchillo Beach or tours with Bahia Rica or Turismo Curu (see their websites).
Another convenience to our place is if you don't feel like driving, the Bus Stop is right across the street or we can call you Taxis, we're only about 10 minutes from Paquera Ferry.
