My family and I just returned from 4 nights/5 days at owl cabin and we had a blast! Close to the lake and the town of big bear, the cabin is centrallly located! We brought our dogs along and they also had a fantastic vacation! If you’re looking for a fun, inexpensive summer rental for the whole family, look no further!
Great spot for a weekend get away on the quieter side of the lake. Easy access to food, lake, hiking when needed but more relaxed and quiet.
Cool little cabin with working fireplace for chilly nights. Kitchen is equipped for eating meals in.

Cute little cabin in the woods
The cabin was comfortable for two people although it is advertised to be suitable for 5. The bedroom is very small with limited room to walk around the bed. Fortunately the other bedroom could be used to store luggage. Cooking on the Wedgewood stove was a fun experience, amazingly good performance. A few more lamps in the kitchen and in the living area would have been helpful. It's a nice cabin in a quiet location, suitable for a short stay with great access to many hiking trails on the north side of the lake.

Cute little cabin
This is a cute little cabin with a few quirks. It's nice and clean, and the kitchen is upgraded and very cute. The neighborhood is cute, with neighbors are close but quiet. Cable, fireplace - all worked well. On the cons, there is one couch and no soft chair, so two people can't really stretch out. And the couch is not great - very flat cushions making it not super cozy. Also, the hot water heater doesn't have a ton of capacity. Fine for two people, would be tougher with a larger group.

Cabin Review
Listing on VRBO stated wood included in amenities. We discovered after arriving it was not included and we had to find somewhere to buy it. While looking for outlets to plug in phone chargers we realized there was a lot of dust and cobwebs. It was not a good situation since we have allergies. TV was very outdated and difficult to use. Checkout of cleaning out fireplace and driving trash to a dumpster is not anything we have done in the past with renting a cabin. We will not be renting this cabin again.
there is a serious problem with this rental (see below.) while the neighborhood is wonderful, the cabin is quaint & peaceful, regular employees & maintenance at cool cabin are lovely & helpful -- management is not: they will not acknowledge that there is a problem with the place and actually suggested that WE were the problem (aka being somehow too sensitive -- about that more later.) all we have been offered is a 5% discount above the 15% discount everyone gets for a future rental. an insult, rather than compensation for the problem.here's the issue: the house heats up to such temperatures when it's warm outside that it's de facto uninhabitable during the day. we were here in mid-80s temps and the house heated up into the 90s so that we could not use it during the day at all.fans just moved the air around -- and the portable AC they brought us blew the circuit breaker and not only did not work but took the wifi with it. the house is likely not insulated (or how else to explain a 35 degree temperature difference between night and day inside temps?) since the nights were still in the 40s for us the house cooled down into the high 50s by the morning. once the nights are warmer it will stay hot, inside of course. IF they fix the insulation/temp regulation issues this would be a wonderful spot. the hard-nosed management gives me pause, though. not sure i want to give cool cabins more of my money. also not sure i can know what i will be getting.
All was going well until my mom got on the small white child’s bed and I got on the bunk bed. She is handicap, so I have to be in the same room as her. My cousin got the master bedroom and had no issues. The white beds slats were half on the floor and the mattress was a 6 inch topper and a mattress and it was so soft my mom just got swallowed up, so I had to take the topper off and I had to call maintenance to fix the bed, but it didn’t help much to fix the comfort of the bed. The bunk bed’s slats were also off and in the middle of the night I woke up to my head starting to fall through to the bottom bunk because the mattress was sinking. When I got out to fix it I just had to slide the slats further up to support my head. Which is why I didn’t bring it up. But it did affect my overall feeling about the cabin.
Two last negatives were that there were some cobwebs on the couch nearest the door, which I had to move to plug in the light near the window. And the other thing was that the stove smoked up the house when we cooked dinner in it one night even with the overhead fan on.
The good thing is that it was very quaint. Great artwork. Wonderfully awesome vintage stove and great paintings. It was a good location with a wonderful view of the state park.
Oh I forgot one last thing. The low hanging branches did hit the roof of our van while going in and out of the driveway.
If some of these things are fixed. We would certainly come back.

Really enjoyed stay at owl cabin. It is located in a nice quiet area. Property had good kitchenware, had clean sheets etc. There were DVD(s) kept but no DVD player, also families going with kids could use some games. Cabin itself is really nice.

Hi William, thank you so much for staying with Big Bear Cool Cabins! So happy that you enjoyed the cabin and the fireplace. Hope to see you again soon!
The cabin was great the major issue we had was that All the linens on the 3 small beds were dirty, they has stains on the sheet and on the pillows, looked at the extra ones in the closet and they were also stained. Couches were in bad condition as well the smaller while one was so dirty that we rather used the table chairs to sit in the living room to watch TV. Very disappointed with the cleanliness, didn’t get into the cabin until late at night so didn’t really have any other option but to stay there.

Very clean very cozy had a great time
The cabin was cute and cozy and off the beaten path. We enjoyed our stay very much, nice and clean. If I had to say something negative it would be maybe some new furniture in the living room what's there is a bit overused and maybe a little loving care Outdoors with a big table on that patio so you can actually eat out there. Overall it was fantastic, would come again. Thank you so much

Amazing experience
Amazing experience. It was just you, your family and the nature. It was private no weird neighbors too close, and the back doors open directly facing the forest. I loved it. My mom really like it and wants to come back in this specific cabin for our next big bear trip.
It was clean, strong wi fi, 3mi or 10 minutes to staters bros and other markets. Less than a mile from the lake.
