Creekside Cottage in the Redwoods & Walk to Boulder Creek

Welcome to Creekside Cottage, my childhood home in the heart of Boulder Creek. (SCC#221304) Tucked among towering redwoods with a year-round creek running directly behind the house, this renovated 1940s cottage blends vintage charm with a warm, curated mid-century modern style.

Relax by the creek, settle in by the fireplace, or simply listen to the water and the redwoods—you may find you don’t want to leave. And yet, one of the things we love most about the cottage is that you can enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by nature while still being just a few minutes’ walk from downtown Boulder Creek.

If you do venture out, you’ll find plenty to explore throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains and beyond: hiking, wineries, scenic train rides, beaches, Big Basin, Henry Cowell Redwoods, and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Rainy season is one of my favorite times here. The redwoods seem even more beautiful after the rain, and the sights, scents, and sounds of the forest are something special.

Inside, Creekside Cottage offers all the comforts of home, including a full kitchen, BBQ, high-speed internet, television, games, a record player, and laundry. We also stock the espresso machine with coffee beans from our daughter’s shop, Koin Coffee in Walnut Creek, along with vanilla powder from Better Buzz in Southern California.

Step outside and enjoy the newly refreshed outdoor spaces, designed for relaxing, gathering, and making the most of the redwoods. The spacious side yard features updated furnishings with comfortable seating and tables for outdoor dining, morning coffee, or an afternoon glass of wine. Gather around the firepit in the evening, settle in under the trees, and enjoy the cool mountain air. Out back, a small deck leads toward the creek, where fairy lights add a little magic after dark.

For outdoor fun, enjoy corn hole and lawn games, or settle into oversized camping chairs and cots beneath the redwoods. Feeling adventurous? Head down to the creek. We provide towels, foldable patio chairs, and a freshwater rinse station near the landing for your convenience.

The creek is one of our favorite parts of the property. Dine outside while listening to the water, sit with your feet in the creek, or—if you’re brave—try a cold plunge. My husband loves it. I’ll happily cheer you on from the bank. :)

Coming October: a private hot tub beneath the redwoods, perfect for cool mornings, crisp evenings, and unwinding after a day of exploring.

You’ll have full access to the entire home and outdoor spaces, including the yard and creek.

A few practical notes: Because the cottage is in the mountains, it does not have central heat or air conditioning. It is rarely needed. In warmer weather, opening the windows in the evening generally keeps the cottage comfortable, and portable fans are available. In cooler weather, the gas fireplace warms the home quickly, and small portable heaters are available for additional coziness. Please use only one space heater per room, as more than one can trip the breaker.

Power outages can occasionally occur in the mountains. When they do, we have a generator for temporary backup, and outages are usually brief.
