Overpriced/ has potential

The house was busted. Water went out the first night. We couldn’t go out on the decks where one of the pictures is taken. Floors were uneven and there were beads and remnants of things that were stuck between the floor boards. The lockbox they use for the front door is wonky so every time we tried to get into the house it took us 20 minutes. Payed way too much money for it. I would have rather stayed at a hotel. The house has potential to be great if they fixed it up just a little bit. The handy men were awesome! We stayed there about 3 weeks ago and I’m still mad that I had to pay as much as I did for it. Overall, this place needs work before having people stay in it. Not fit for small children.

Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities, communication
The amenities on Travelocity site does not match the amenities Vacasa sends to you after you book. No washer, no (working?) central heating (1 electric oil heater on wheels provided). Safety lists deadbolt lock but only 2 of 5 doors have a deadbolt, 2 doors have no locks or latches. Several windows also don't have locks. We didn't have anyone in our party willing to try the shower but the stains downstairs hinted it might leak. The house is acrossed the street from the water, not on the water. But it does have a lovely view and there is a small sandy beach just down the road. Not many dining options during the week, maybe due to it being June rather than July or August but every restaurant nearby was closed on Mon, Tue, Wed.

Liked: Communication, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in
Getting into the front door with the lock was a frustrating challenge that would take 20-30 minutes to get the keypad to work. The water pump fried so we were out of water for half a day. I had to reach out multiple times to get it handled. The handymen were very helpful and nice. The house is needs a lot of repairs and looks like it was a DIY project. Floors were uneven. Between the wood on flooring was dirty. The downstairs bathroom smells like pee.The cups and plates were dirty.Upstairs bedrooms were dusty. We had to walk around in our socks because the floors were so dirty.I felt we were overcharged for what we got and definitely looked forward to leaving. If I would have know this is the state of the house, I would not have rented and stayed elsewhere. This place was a big disappointment however it has potential to be great if they put some time and TLC in it.I will not be using VRBO anymore and will not make this recommendation to anyone.

6/10 Okay

Maine “camp”

This house is sprawling with lots of room but very thing was added on - not in a bad way but not in a redone way by any means. Beds were comfortable. Bedding was nice and comfortable. There is a great little “beach” down the road and a preserve. Not a beach where adults would generally go in but the kids were having a great time. The house is quite a distance from Bath, which is a cute town, so you need to plan your food carefully for your time . Two refrigerators and a very well equipped kitchen. Better there is a dock a few minutes walk away where there is resonably priced lobster, fried fish , corn, clams, hamburgers etc and great ice cream. It is the type of place where you can bring the rest of your meal and sit at a picnic table. (Though crowded at times and closes at 7). We didn’t go but there is very real beach at Reid park. The house has a very lived in vibe. There is a loft in each of the bedrooms but not sure how would sleep there and how comfortable the temperature would be. 5e house comes with enough towels (a dryer in the bath with shower to dry towels as it was very foggy there. Clears up but dryer is useful) . Bathrooms and shower are utilitarian. Included shampoo etc . Even dishwasher pods are included - though we searched high and low and never found a dishwasher! Upstairs deck was very nice to sit. Downstairs has a great enclosed deck and lots of table room. There are lots of stairs to get to front door (actually there is another front door but a steep climb). More stairs to the bedrooms and bath. Maybe a little much for anyone who has trouble with stairs. There is a well stocked variety of games, some books and a tv which needs direction to use. We had some issues and a handyman came and fixed everything. All in all, we had a very nice city break, but expectations should be for what you are getting - a lived in house, not one that has been taken down to its skeleton and redone like so many places are. Views are quite nice even though it’s not water front. Oh and dogs allowed which is always nice. They can go anywhere but on the beach and the preserve. And there is a little tennis court by the lobster place. Never saw anyone using it but it could be. Hoops there too. I’d recommend to anyone who wants a quiet few days on the coast in an authentic home.
