Come and enjoy a vacation to remember at The Little Dipper Cottage! This cottage is located on an acre of waterfront land. The cottage sits on a quiet peninsula of the Little River, uniquely positioned at one end of the Little River Dam. Only minutes from Boothbay Harbor -- a fantastic tourist area with whale watching, restaurants, and shopping! This cottage is non-smoking and is perfect for both couples and families with children. East Boothbay, and Glen Cove in particular, is very dog-friendly. Well-behaved dogs are welcome!
The salt water cove, called Glen Cove, was formed in the 1920s by damming the Little River to form the world's largest salt water swimming pool. Swim in the cool water while enjoying the stunning beauty this location offers. Launch your kayaks or canoe from our private dock in the cove side of the dam. Or take a short 10 minute stroll to view the Atlantic ocean. One of the reasons we named this cottage "The Little Dipper" is because of the amazing night views of the Milky Way, unobstructed on a non-cloudy evening when you walk onto the dam at night. (The other is the obvious swim-ability of the cove.)
One of the amazing aspects of this quiet property is the the large, well furnished screened porch with ceiling fan. Sit and enjoy a cool breeze off the water as you watch the sun rise - or enjoy a book as your children play a card game. The screened porch is non-smoking as well.
There is 1 bedroom, 1 den/hangout room with a pinball machine, living/dining area, well-appointed kitchen, and 1 full bathroom on the main floor with wide, knotty pine floors throughout. With large windows and skylights, the main room remains sunny and airy throughout the day. The bedroom has a view of the water, a queen bed with new mattress, large closet, and ceiling fan. The bathroom has tub/shower combo with great water pressure, large vanity, and a separate toilet room. In addition, there is a large carpeted loft accessible via a "ships ladder."
In addition, there is a loft that has 2 twin beds plus extra twin mattresses for extra guests. The loft makes for a terrific space for older kids while adults might find the low ceiling a challenge.
The living room has a comfortable new couch and chairs, flat screen TV with internet access (no cable), Blue Ray/DVD, and stereo. Excellent fiberoptic WiFi (1Gb) is available throughout. The kitchen has an electric stove/oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, and ample cooking equipment including a full sized lobster pot! The dining table has seating for six and can expand with two built-in leaves. A brand new washer/dryer tower is now available for free in the unit - and laundry pods and dryer sheets are provided..
There are also french doors that provide easy access to a clearing next to the water where you can watch ducks, geese, and egrets and even spot an eagle. Adirondack chairs and a fire pit offers a great spot to enjoy the sounds of the water while making s'mores.
Finally, this cabin is assigned two convenient parking spaces, large enough to accommodate a trailer.

As first-time visitors to Maine, this was an excellent location for exploring the Boothbay area and a great place to stay. Watching the tidal changes was fascinating and kayaking in the calm waters was very enjoyable. The cottage was very comfortable and accommodating and we were glad to have found it available. On top of that, our hosts were perfect!
We had a wonderful time it was just the right size for 2 adults. The main bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a loft with 2 twin beds for kids. The kitchen has everything you need to cook if you don’t want to eat out. We spent 10 days and didn’t want to eat out all the time. It had a nice screened in porch and a fire pit next to the water. The camp was fairly close to downtown and Hannfords grocery store. The owners Leslie and Laura were very helpful with any questions we had and responded positively and quickly. If your looking for a place for 2 and on the water this is the place for you.
it was everything we wanted for a week in maine. the house is a great location on the water. nothing commercial around. easy to get to boothbay and beyond. we really enjoyed our stay
Little Dipper was quiet, clean, comfortable, and in the perfect location. Walks across the damn were a daily, sometimes twice daily, occurrence, that the dog loved. The cabin is far away enough for peace and quiet but close enough to many shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed our time there, and Leslie was the perfect hostess!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The Little Dipper was clean and comfortable and the perfect location. We were conveniently located between Portland and Bar Harbor with easy access to Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, Camden and more. The home is peaceful and quiet with beautiful views of the water. Leslie was a great host and very responsive. We would highly recommend and hope to come back some day.
A gorgeous and well cared for refuge in a spectacular setting
We loved being surrounded by water and in an area that was so very tranquil. Leslie was more than gracious and accommodating and went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. It is really a retreat to be there yet at the same time not far from many restaurants and Maine activities. A wonderful vacation!
Everything about our stay was perfect - the comfortable and bright cottage and tranquil yard overlooking the water. Leslie was responsive (and friendly) from booking through check out. Located on a private cul-de-sac, the property is close to the harbor, shopping, restaurants. A lovely, restorative vacation.
Cute property on a cove for our two-week stay. Owners house is attached to screen porch, but owners were away most of the time. Very thoughtful and responsive to any questions we had. Clean, quiet perfect for us.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Little Dipper! The cabin was clean and spacious with a wonderful patio room. We enjoyed the town being so close and the coast right around the corner and a lovely walk. We cooked and ate lobster on the patio. Kayaked off the dock and enjoyed the milky way. The fire pit made for wonderful star gazing and of course smores. We enjoyed games and puzzles the hostess had for our use. We all slept wonderfully the beds are comfy. The pictures do not do this cabin justice it was a lovely retreat. Quiet and away from the hustle and bustle but so close to restaurants, downtown and the ocean.

The inside of the cabin was clean, well-kept, and well stocked. The outside needed some grooming attention. Our biggest disappointment was the beautiful washer and dryer in the unkept basement, which was only accessible from the outside.
We stayed at the Little Dipper for two glorious weeks with our two dogs. The dogs loved going almost everywhere with us! The cabin was perfect, the views were lovely and the water in the cove was breathtaking! The quiet woods were restorative. The King Phillip road loop is a beautiful 2.5 mile walk with sweeping views of the inlet and the ocean. All the local restaurants we ate at offered delicious seafood. We ate at Takas, Mine Oyster, Robinson's Wharf and Lobsterman's Wharf. Our very favorite was Mine Oyster in Boothbay. We took a few days trips as the cabin is close to many other great places. We went to Bar Harbor to Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain. The summit loop offers stunning views and Jordan's Pond was beautiful. In Bar Harbor, we ate at the Chart Room and it was very good. We went to Freeport to shop and LL Bean is huge there. We ate at Jameson's Tavern there and the amount and quality of food there is incredible! Another day we went to Damariscotta and did some shopping downtown, went to North Country Wind Bells and got a Boothbay Harbor bell to remember the sounds of the buoy that sounded in the water on our walks every day. We then headed to Pemaquid Point lighthouse and ate at the Seagull Restaurant. Wonderful food and a great gift shop. The lighthouse tour and museum were fun, but the views of the rocks and ocean behind the lighthouse were absolutely beautiful! The Coastal Maine Botanical Garden was wonderful with amazing gardens like the children's garden, the sensory garden, meditation garden and the fairy garden and beautiful trails to walk. The tour was very informative and the gift shop there has unique and fun items. We visited the Maine Aquarium and had lots of fun. It's a very small aquarium, but has lots to offer. We touched everything in the touch tanks, dissected a squid in the discovery center and had a wonderful tour of the downstairs and history of the aquarium. We ate lunch at the picnic tables there and then went fishing off the pier. We caught five mackerels and they took them in to the aquarium for the tanks. Cap'n Fishes whale watching tour and the Puffin tour were great. We didn't see any large whales, but there were a few Minke whales and lots of other sea creatures. If you want a truly relaxing and fun vacation in Maine you must stay at the Little Dipper! The hosts are wonderful and the cabin had everything we needed. Kayaking in the cove was so relaxing and peaceful. Overall a GREAT vacation!
The cabin is clean, quiet, and peaceful. Well equipped with kitchen essentials. Kayaks and canoes with life jackets are also available. We loved our stay at Little Dipper Cottage!
The Little Dipper cottage was exactly what we (me, my husband, our 9 yo daughter and our 13 yo cockapoo) needed to relax and unwind for a week! The cottage was spacious and comfortable and had everything we could ask for. All the little extras did not go unnoticed as well. The setting was pure magic....the view of the beautiful seagreen water from the living room, screened porch or the Adirondack chairs was mesmerizing. We spent a lot of time on the dock relaxing, fishing, kayaking and watching the birds. It is a nature lovers dream. It's easy to see that Leslie and Laura put a lot of time, effort and money into creating this peaceful, beautiful and well-appointed cottage. We loved our stay, thank you!
In years past, my wife, daughter and I have taken 1-week summer vacations at various waterfront properties in New England. This year, we decided to go for 2-weeks and we couldn’t have had a more wonderful vacation than at the Little Dipper. Nested in a woodsy cul-de-sac, right on Little River Dam, we enjoyed the private fire pit, patio, and dock daily. We frequently paddled boarded, kayaked, and had cocktails at dusk on the dock. Some evenings, we relaxed by the fire pit while our daughter roasted marshmallows. The cottage itself was incredibly well-stocked, clean, and comfortable.
The location, too, was just wonderful. Little Dipper is just 10 minutes from Boothbay Harbor and close to many other amazing attractions in the area. We enjoyed the Botanical Gardens, Pemaquid Point, the Railway Village Museum, and a Puffin Cruise on Cap’n Fish’s, to name a few. My wife and I also celebrated our 20th anniversary with amazing water views at the Boathouse Bistro.
Leslie, the owner, checked in with us before and throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we need. She even left us a handwritten note with a gift for our family and our dogs. We did need to contact her during our stay due to a lost remote for the air conditioner on a day with a heat advisory. Leslie was immediately responsive and brought us a remote that same day. She clearly goes to great lengths to make sure her guests enjoy their stay. We highly recommend the Little Dipper and hope to stay there again!
Super Property and Location for Relaxation and Enjoyment of Maine
Wake up to waterfront beauty at this well-designed and fully equipped property. There is plenty of room to accommodate children and grandchildren, as well. Plus dog friendly. I enjoyed a relaxing stay and enjoyed the many entertaining sights to see in the area. Highly recommended.
We loved our stay at the Little Dipper. The kids enjoyed swimming, kayaking, exploring, and watching the changing tides- all right on the property. Leslie was super responsive and the cottage was well stocked with everything we needed. It’s even cuter than the photos and the screen porch was the perfect place to relax and enjoy family meals. We hope to be back someday!
We had a wonderful two week stay at the Little Dipper, highly recommend! The water views and surrounding area are beautiful, quintessential ME. Quick drive into Boothbay Harbor and nearby restaurants, and an easy launching ground to explore the midcoast area. The cottage was comfortable for our family and had everything we needed. Leslie was super easy to communicate with. Thank you for the welcoming, warm space!
Our stay in this lovely cottage was beyond relaxing. Leslie is the best host. We look forward to returning again. Our 2 little pups enjoyed the beautiful yard too !!!!
The Little Dipper is the perfect getaway-comfortable and perfectly located with lovely views and close to Boothbay Harbor. Comfortably sleeps 4 and is dog friendly!
If you are looking for peace and quiet--the Little Dipper Cottage is it!
We stayed at the Little Dipper for a week with our two year old daughter and sweet rescue dog and were more than thrilled with our experience. The location is tranquil, from the relaxing sounds of the dam to the sweet symphony of birds throughout the day if you need respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life---this is the perfect place to find it! Upon our arrival, every inch of the cottage was impeccably clean, and it is clear that the owners have put a lot of time and love into this place. We do enjoy eating out in the Boothbay Harbor vicinity, however with concerns of COVID and our unvaccinated toddler, we spent much more time cooking meals and the cottage had everything we needed. (I was very impressed that there were even a large set of knives--which for some reason is hard to come by in a vacation rental!) The bathroom was also excellent and I even got a long leisurely soak in the tub on the first night of our stay! What a treat! The communication with Leslie was far beyond our expectations and although we did not have any issues during our stay, I am very confident that if we did she would have had them resolved immediately. It is clear they really cares that those renting the cottage enjoy their time and go above and beyond to make that happen. We are looking forward to spending time again at the Little Dipper!
Our stay at the Little Dipper was fabulous. The cabin is clean and you can see the attention to detail put into making sure guests are comfortable. Everything is new and fresh, including the bedding and even the washer and dryer. Everything we needed to dine was neatly tucked away in the drawers and cabinets and again...everything is new and clean. The location is serene and right out of a painting. You can watch nesting ospreys soar above and families of mallards swim by. My family enjoyed fishing off the pier in the Little River and taking walks around the point. The screened porch was perfect for morning coffee and nights when it was a little too buggy to sit outside. The cabin is a short drive to Hannaford and the specialty market, Pinkham's, where you can find fresh fish, clams, oysters, beer and wine, and sandwiches for the beach. The Carriage House is a wonderful local establishment with fabulous food and a warm reception...and of course Booth Bay Harbor. Leslie and Laura were available and accomodating for any questions or issues we might have come across. We certainly will be returning for another stay! Excellent across the board!
Lil Dipper cottage is truly a special quiet comfy cottage with great water views and privacy. The beautiful cove, wild life, dog friendly area was everything we needed to enjoy our great vacation. Whether we were kayaking or relaxing on deck, enjoying a nice walk in the beautiful area or venturing to the dog and people friendly town just 15 min away, we had a blast. The property is in a great spot with some tall pines. A real treasure and the owners are very nice.👍

About the host
Hosted by Leslie Dietiker
We are former Californians who went to graduate school in Michigan and then settled with jobs at Boston University! Making Maine our second home only makes sense - it reminds us of the nature plentiful in Northern CA and the New England feel of our new Massachusetts home. We have two boys , and 2 dogs (Eugene and Pepper). We also rent a cabin in Boothbay Harbor with sandy beach access! If the week you want is not available, check out Deer Creek Cabin in Sprucewold (#2692441).
Why they chose this property
The dam is the first place I have seen so many stars in the sky at night - all at once! It lets the sea water from the Little River pass in and out for tides - which offers a wonderful walkway with the sound of rushing water. Our trees shade the buildings but yet allow ample views of the water to catch lovely birds and the jumping fish!
What makes this property unique
This location is on a cudesac off of a country road - it is rare to see or hear a car nearby. We love kayaking on the cove - on a warm day, it feels 10° cooler on the water. However, when you want to explore away from home, there is plenty of entertainment and shops nearby as well - Boothbay Harbor (about 15 minutes drive) is a lovely seaport village with craft fairs, whale watching, and wonderful restaurants. Closer to home, in East Boothbay, the General Store has a surprising selection of wonderful sandwiches, along with all the vacation staples (i.e., ice cream and beer). One of the best aspects we love is the ability to talk long walks and see amazing views of water in all directions!
