Beautiful location. Awesome, responsive hosts! We had a great time exploring the Wisconsin river and the surrounding areas. We will definitely be back when the weather is warmer! Go to the bat cave!
Clean, cozy and quiet. Short drive to either Richland Center or Spring Green for site seeing, groceries and restaurants.
We enjoyed our stay. Great communication by property’s manager.
We’d stay again!
A very cute, cozy, lovely little cottage. The inside is really nice, the outside is worn but it is an old building. A nice mix of old with a touch or modern convenience of electricity and plumbing. We would stay here again if coming back to this area.
This is a cool little property. The entire location is included. It is really well done inside. The outside could use painting but inside is great. Gotham is out there so be ready to enjoy the countryside
Fabulous and quiet. Perfect for a girls' weekend. Nothing much to do in Gotham, but close to Spring Green, hiking, wandering. Perfect for the occasion. Everything we needed was right there in the kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms. Living room was spacious, clean and lovely furniture
The Depot was very nice and was in a good location to jump off from. We made it to APT, a couple state parks, the Mississippi River for a picnic lunch, and pizza on the farm at Sitting Pretty farm. All were a reasonable distance from the depot.
This is our second time staying here and we love it. It is cute and comfortable. We will make this our designated place to stay for our annual trip to see plays at the American Players Theater.
Our stay at the Depot was quite and peaceful. The home was clean and had beautiful decor. We would highly recommend this property. The neighborhood was quite and safe. When we visit Wisconsin in the future we would stay here again. Theresa the host was very responsive to my questions. Gossage’s
Fantastic home. Stayed for 3 nights as a little weekend getaway. Close to Taliesin and House on the Rock, which we toured both, ate at Anita’s cafe and Arthur’s Supper Club in Spring Green just 15 minutes away. The Depot offered a quiet retreat to get some peace. Thanks for the hospitality.
This is my 4th stay at the Depot. It is clean, charming, cozy, quiet, and historic. And, only 20 minutes from APT, so easy access to your favorite production. The hosts are attentive and kind. It's always a pleasure!
Well appointed and immensely comfortable property, located in a very quiet area with great access to bike path and central to all the driftless region sights and activities! The hosts are very responsive and provided everything needed for a great stay!
We stayed here for two nights in May. This cottage is just stunning. The renovation is modern, yet you get the historical feel it had. The train motif is scattered around in all the rooms. Such a comfy place! There's a rails to trails bike trail right outside the front door. The Bat Cave (bar) is right around the corner from the cottage. The owners and clientele were so fun and friendly. And the countryside with its hills, valleys, farmland, and bluffs makes for a wonderful drive. The Wisconsin River is about a mile away. Communication with the owners was very easy and prompt. We loved staying here and would definitely stay again and recommend. Thank you Ross and Theresa for sharing this quaint and cute cottage with us!Jim and Luanne
Our 2nd visit to the Depot Chalet and we had the best time. A perfect weekend to spend relaxing in such a warm and cozy home. The hosts were amazingly accommodating and friendly. A perfect location to enjoy history and sightseeing. We are looking forward to planning our next visit!
This is a cozy, delightful little spot in the middle of Wisconsin. We had a nice 3 day stay with no issues at all. The Depot was always nice and warm and welcoming.
We spent a week at the Depot while touring Wisconsin chasing the fall colours.
We loved the decor of the cottage, the beds were comfortable & we enjoyed the country vibes.
As the Depot is in quite an isolated position you need to consider bringing basic supplies with you. E.g milk etc. we only found out about the lack of onsite shopping when we arrived late at night. We found out where a supermarket was, once we arrived & read the information sheet. Richlands Center was a valuable resource for diner breakfast & Walmart!

About the host
Hosted by A Depot Chalet
Ross and Theresa Halverson, owners. The two are crazy for unique properties. They renovated several and in fact have just finished (well almost) renovating an old 1856 flour mill into their home and it has been featured in a well known magazine Country Living Magazine Jan/Feb issue 2017. Theresa is an interior decorator and an oil painting artist , Ross is supposed to be retired but Theresa keeps him busy! He enjoys old cars and creating pieces of art from old found things. Theresa has lived in this area all her life while Ross moved to this area 40 years ago from a few hours away. There next adventure? They are talking about renovating an old small greenhouse and blacksmith shop into another unique vacation rental property. These two are always dreaming! Their motto “ If it isn’t old and unique we don’t want it”.
Why they chose this property
We fell head over heals for this unique old late 1800s railroad depot and when it came up for sale, well, we could not resist!
What makes this property unique
This depot sits right next to a beautiful, scenic bike trail which used to be the railroad tracks. Great biking and hiking! Just a little over a mile away in town is a boat landing on the Wisconsin River.
