Far far away, and ever so long ago, there was a tiny little cottage that once belonged to a brother and sister named Hansel and Gretel... How they loved their little gingerbread house! Now, tucked away safely in Yancey County North Carolina, this enchanting little cottage is here, with us, Jacki and Saleh Nazari...
You'll find us off the beaten path, 3600 feet up, yet down in a narrow mountain valley, on the side of an old country road called Miller Branch.
If you long to feel the comfort of a more peaceful, whimsical, bygone era, then come and unwind at the The Gingerbread Tiny Home...
Here, although not far from the hustle and bustle of town, you can actually have a little taste of the wilderness as you relax, surrounded by memorabilia and antiques inside, and on the outside,
a little Aviary, woods, a creek, and animals.
After some gentle recuperation, you can take off to see the sights and sounds of Asheville's many beautiful craft shops, fine restaurants, and local breweries, go for a day of hiking in the many famous mountain trails in our area, or, in Winter, go skiing at Wolf Ridge Ski Resort which is right above us. Yes, here you can experience the best of both worlds - - country and city!
We have lived here on Miller Branch Road in Mars Hill, NC for 25 years now. Saleh, who is also an artist, built the tiny home and I had the joy of decorating it. It is filled with Saleh's artwork. Most of the antiques in the Gingerbread are heirlooms from my parents who were antique dealers in New York... Each treasured piece is a memory of the past when things were made with beauty and heart...
Also, there are three pigs, one sheep, and an aviary of pigeons, ducks, chickens and a goose - - right below the Gingerbread 's picture windows. They are adorable to watch.
My husband and I also live on the property in our home.
We are surrounded by woods and there is a large farmyard you can sit in near a babbling branch of water...
For couples, the Tiny Gingerbread can be very romantic. And for single persons, especially artists and writers, I think you will find inspiration here. Also, we have excellent Wi-Fi, so working from the cottage online is another plus... We welcome long term guests and provide discounts for those interested.
Our location is unique. We are right below a ski resort. We are seven minutes from the highway and are central to Asheville, Mars Hill, and the quaint town of Burnsville. North Asheville is twenty-five minutes away, while Mars Hill is ten minutes away, and Burnsville is fifteen. Here, you can retreat and recuperate in the 'wilderness', yet when you feel in need of civilization, everything is just close enough!
About our road : Miller Branch Rd is a hard-packed gravel - dirt road which is one of the many older roads in Yancey County that is not state - maintained. Although it's not steep nor curvy, it does waffle, making it a bumpy ride here and there. Four wheel drives are not necessary, but the most comfortable cars to drive on the road are cars with medium to high clearance such as SUVs. Low clearance cars are highly discouraged. We are just a half mile up from the asphalt road called Fox Creek.
So we invite you to come, relax, recuperate, and reminisce about how life was, and may be again someday 🌠
P. S. Saleh makes homemade pizza every Friday evening, and he loves to share! You're invited!
